A Week in Life.. chatter thread

My camera batteries died on me this morning. Boo! I'm hoping to get everything uploaded today (3 different sources for my pictures) and start making my first pages. I'm going very graphic but I'm not sure if I like the templates I have or not (ones I made for our school yearbook pages). I might have to do some tweaking.

Love yours Lena. I am having a problem in that I'm at work Monday to Friday and as I teach I can't take photographs for security reasons. I did quickly snap my 'working on my computer eating my lunch' lunch on Monday but now each day is the same. Then the weather is appaling here now and even taking Haggis out for his walk is done with wellies on and my hood up and literally sprinting along the street to the field and scooting back as soon as he is done. I've taken a few photographs of evening stuff but today for example I have 3 photographs (and on of those is the clock!) and it's after 7PM and getting dark. The weekend will be more action packed but some days are going to look a little bare :)

Could you maybe take a picture of your lesson plan or an activity you will be doing with the children at home before you go to school? That way you could sort of capture what you are doing at work but not violating any security issues. Just a thought.

This week is totally going to make Colby and I look like workaholics. Yes, we work a lot ,but this week we've done nothing but work. He's farming until 10:30 every night and I've had three photography sessions in three days in addition to my normal 8-5 job. Blah.

I'm still holding in though.

I took a picture today at school of a student laptop. I was setting up for a student to take a test in my room and snapped the picture of the laptop. You could take a few random shots of things around your room (without capturing students names or info like that) or a picture of your empty classroom maybe?

How awesome that you are managing to get pictures through all of that!

This week is shaping up to be a pretty typical week. We have a few out of the ordinary things (like skills assessments for softball today) but there is always something like that so while this specific thing is a once a year occurrence, we pretty much have something similar come up every week.

And, OMG, I took so many pictures today of my 6 year old crying! It was meltdown city. This is also pretty typical (at least one day a week he gets worn out and melts down) but boy, I feel bad for the kid.

So I've been curious about this, so I did a little research. Here's my results in case anyone was curious as well.

I'm using an iPhone 4S and Instagram v2, so if you're not, your sizing will be different. I tested this using the default Camera app, Camera+ and Instagram, with all the settings set to save the max resolution possible.

Here were my results (all in pixels):
Apple Camera App only: 3264x2448 (max iPhone 4S size - 8MP)
Camera App photo imported into Instagram: 1264x1264

Camera+ only: 3264x2448 (max iPhone 4S size)
Camera+ photo imported into Instagram: 1361x1361
(Oh and if you accidentally end up in burst mode, your photos end up super tiny - 480x480px once imported into Instagram. I don't recommend doing that. :D)

Photo taken with Instagram: 2048x2048 (max Instagram size for the 4S, it's lower for the iPhone 4 & 3Gs)

Soooo...apparently the output size in Instagram does depend on what app you use to take the photo. The good news is that all of the photo sizes are over 4x4 inches at 300 ppi so they should still be easily scrap able. You can also set up Instagram to save a full resolution copy in addition to the edited version when you take a photo using Instagram rather than importing a photo into it if you want a bigger size.

Ooooo! Thanks for your research, Lynnette! Like Andrea I've been in back to back to back programs so I can't take photos during work for confidentiality reasons. I've just realized that I need more people photos :( I do have a lot of detail photos and stuff, but dang I should've at least take photos of my co-workers post-programs :p

You know, I didn't think of that, but being as my life revolves around my 2-month old right now, there are definitely tears shed in this house every day. I really should capture that (quickly so that I don't feel TOO bad about letting her cry while I snap photos!)

I'm still holding in on day 3 here, but honestly, my pictures are pretty darn mundane. I guess that's a true representation of my life right now. LOL

What about trying to take pictures from her perspective too? Maybe looking up at her play gym(if she has one), etc.

While we're back on the subject of phone photo quality, I mentioned earlier in the thread that my Android phone takes terrible photos. About a month ago I started using the Camera Zoom FX app rather than my phone's default camera app. I finally DLed the photos I've taken with it so far, and they were definitely better than the ones I took with my phone's default app. My phone is still not going to become my go-to camera, but at least the photos are brighter and less blurry. So there may be hope for others of you with bad phone cameras, too!

But as mundane as it seems right now, when you look back at it a year from now everything will have changed. I wish I'd taken the plunge and tried AWITL a few years ago! I'd love to have that to compare to now that mine are 3, 6, and 8.

Lena - love yours!

I'm still going strong, but my number of photos is decreasing each day. I had 24 on Monday and 20 yesterday and then only about 12 today. I just feel like I'm doing the same things. I get up, get ready for work, take kids to school, go to work, etc... How many times can I capture this? I am trying to capture different things in the evenings, but do I really need pictures of supper every night? :)

I came home at 7, had dinner, washed dishes(Eek.. I should've taken a photo of sink full of dishes!) and now, working on computer. Nothing to take pics of! I did take a photo of my dinner plate for Food of the Week page and one photo of everyone sitting at dining table. I did get a photo of me working on the computer last night, so can't take that! LOL Humm.. DH is working on computer in bed.. off to get his photo! :)

When my oldest was a baby, she rarely cried. In fact, I think I may just have one picture of her crying. My grandma loved that picture. She said it reminded her that she (my daughter) was a real child and not a baby doll. She was such an awesome baby that I don't think I remember her crying at all until she was 5 months old, not even when she was hungry or wet. Well... then my boy came along and boy did he rock our world. He cried continuously for months on end. I mean he'd spend 20 of the 24 hours in a day crying and the other 4 hours he'd be sleeping (off and on, not all at once either). He would cry while he nursed even. It was kind of torturous at times. I tried to get all of those happy baby pictures of him but I soon realized that those weren't our reality so I started taking pictures of all of it and I really love looking back at them now, crying baby and all. Its just how our life was. :)

I will look in to that app for android. My camera on there stinks but maybe an app would help. Of course I think my crappy little point and shoot camera is worse (it was $35 I can't complain... bought it to replace the one of my daughter's we thought was broken but it turns out she had replaced her dead batteries with more dead batteries and it wasn't broken after all).

Tonight I sorted my photos in to folders for each day. I"ll further break that down and start scrapping tomorrow probably. I didn't move all of the pictures, just the shots I am considering. I had 131 on Monday, 62 on Tuesday and 105 for Today. Umm... yeah, I better figure out how to narrow that down some. Some of those are duplicate shots because I can't decide which I like better but most are unique. I have been snapping pictures of everything all while trying to avoid the messiness of my house. ;)

so I have 5 pages = title page and then 4 pages for day 1. I have journaling to add, but at least the base of the pages are done.

I ended up deciding to use Just the Basics Album 2 by Janet Phillips

I can't find the right layout for my photos. I have too many. Ugh. Tough decision because I hate to limit it but I don't want 6 pages a day either. ;)

I've got a mix of Traci's 10080 Minute's templates & her Week Remembered Insta album, plus Janets Just the Basics album 1 plus either 2 Many Photos 8 or 2 many photos 23 for the covers.

Mostly I have used Traci's Week Remembered so far but I like having the options.

I wish I had just the basics 1 - not positive I love the rounded corners. I also have an old THE Album from when she was Studio Janet, that I considered using

Libby - last year I had a 2 month old. It was a very similar routine. I made sure to capture nursing sessions, just took discreet angles. And before/after diaper changes (not during ewww) and lots of sleeping pictures. My album link was in the other thread. The older kids came home at the end of the week. So it was all baby all week.

That's what I'm wrestling with, too. I was thinking 14 photos a day using Cindy's Super 7's templates, and photo-wise I think I can make that work. But I have so much journaling that I don't think I can fit it, and I don't want to cut it down that much. I'm going to separate out some of it by doing a page on favorite meals, another on books we read, etc. But I'm still going to have to cut more than I want to or do 3-4 pages per day. I've been too busy this week to start scrapping anything yet, but I may start typing up my handwritten notes today and see how many pages I'd need.

I am having a hard time narrowing down how many pictures to use. My daughter took a camera to school and got some great shots at the same time that I was getting pictures I want to use at home, etc. I don't know that I can narrow it down to less than 30 a day. I've never done such a project so I really want this to capture ALL of our week... and not just one person's perspective. Yesterday, for example, my daughter was at a softball skills assessment and I want to include a photo from that but at the same time my son was playing at the ball park with two of his friends from school and I want to include a photo from then as well. That was just an hour of our evening, there were 2 photos from dinner (we ate out so one photo of DD and DH and another of DS and I), etc. I'm probably making this more difficult than it should be but I really want to make sure its a pretty realistic picture of our life. :)

My husband is home tonight! Well, at least for a few hours. We are going to actually sit down and have dinner together for the first time all week. I'm super excited. :)

I may start putting my first day together later. I really want to spreads per day, but I think one is much more realistic.

I started on Monday's pictures. I have a 2 page spread for Monday morning. I have a feeling I will have a 2 pager for Monday afternoon and probably more for Monday evening. I take way too many pictures. LOL Granted, one of my Monday morning pages is just 1 picture, the other page has 10 though. :)

I almost bought that set, Angie. It just didn't have enough picture spaces for me. I made a little template with 10 pictures and its still not enough. I didn't take as many pictures today but M-W I had tons. I left out a lot of stuff about our day which kind of bums me but I don't know that I want to rework the template to add more pictures. I'm too tired tonight to worry about it.

Here's what I have so far...

I just realized my divider line is missing from the afternoon and evening pages. I like it in there so I'll be changing that.

Sherri, I love how yours turned out!!! I barely had about 10 photos for first 3 days. Not much going on. All of the sudden, I've been around today after work, so I have plenty of photos from today!

I finally got around to doing my Wed pages :) I ended up with 4 :)

eta: pages 3-4 Tuesday

I love how everyone is doing it in a different way!
I just posted Saturday and Sunday on my blog....just click my signature.

I totally slacked yesterday. The day when everyone was home and I should have been getting lots of pictures I became a slacker. We just hung around the house though doing nothing to speak of. Ugh. :(

I haven't scrapped anything yet, but I've kept up with the photos and notetaking all week. And yeah, yesterday and today I'm taking fewer photos. My family is so over all the photos. I wish the week had started with a weekend so that my family was more cooperative on the days I spent the most time with DH and the 2 older kids. (Let's hope I can remember to structure it that way next time I do AWITL.) I'll still have plenty of photos, but there will be more photos of things and the photos of people won't be as good because I'm only taking 1 or 2 unposed shots. I suppose that would be true of the last few days no matter which days of the week they were.

It's our final day, ladies! I have managed to get 10-20 photos every day and have kept pretty decent notes. Not sure what today will look like as we have no plans. I'm going to be cleaning and working all day, and we're having leftovers for dinner. LOL So, there isn't much left to take pictures of. I'll think of something though.

As much fun as this has been, i've gotta say I'm glad the week is over. LOL This is hard work! Once I get my kits finished for NSD, I'm gonna scrap these. I can't wait!

I'm going to start mine this afternoon after I take my hubby lunch on the tractor. He has our rebel and I want to see what pictures he has from the week before we start. I'm excited to put it all together!

I just finished putting Friday's pages together. I've got from 12-18 photos per day & about a paragraph or so of journaling every day. I'm so glad I decided to go with a clean photo book look. I'd still be dithering over elements for Monday's pages if I hadn't. :)

I am loving this project, but I'm also glad it's almost over! I could have written Libby's post verbatim...as soon as I'm done designing for the week I'm going to finish scrapping them. I've continued to take some awesome photos every day but I haven't had time to do the raw conversions or look at them. I'm really excited to find the time to do so though. Taking the photos has been the easy part. I haven't really slacked off on that. I'm only scrapped thru Wed though.
