What's your paradox?

Well... I'm pretty far left over here...
who am I kidding, I'm as far left as you can get.

but...
I could care less about recycling and I think granola and tree hugging should be a strictly squirrel occurrence. And there's no way anyone's going to get me to camp. And I think cloth diapers are horrifying.

That's right, I'm a 'dox.

See, this is how I would describe MOST Californians. We may be liberal in our political viewpoints but in general most people are not what I would describe as crunchy or treehugging. Those are mostly just the Santa Cruz/Berkeley hard-core hippies. :D

And as for recycling, the reason it's big in CA is because the governments (city/state) made it a priority and made it something that is both easy and cost effective for people to do. At least where I'm from, they give you a huge recycling bin, a huge green waste bin and a tiny trash can and then charge you for any extra trash. So it's in your best interest to recycle rather than throwing it all in the trash.

Here in Colorado we don't recycle because it's not really an easy option. The first trash company our HOA went through didn't even have a recycling program. They recently switched to a new company but even they CHARGE you just to get a recycling bin. Coming from CA, I seriously feel like we've gone back in time 10+ years. If you want people to seriously recycle, make it the easiest and best option - don't punish them with extra fees.

Agreed, that's how our HOA is too. When we first moved in we tried for over a month to get our recycling taken. But it wasn't in blue plastic bags, so they wouldn't take it. I can think of no logical reason why I should put recycling into a plastic bag (noneusable) instead of a trash can (reusable). Plus, there's no easy way to figure out what is supposed to be recycled on what days. They make it too difficult! A lot of ppl suggest taking it to a recycling plant, but that just puts more gases in the air from an extra trip in the car. Damned if you do, damned if you don't.

And, I can't think of any paradoxes. I'll work on it.

PS~I swear like a boatload of drunken sailors. I suppose I should work on that....

Amen sista! We moved here and there is a meager recycling program (yard debris and paper products on wednesdays) and twice a week pickup of the huge trash cans. Now starting in January we are getting charged extra $3 a month for the "privelege" of recycling. If they had actually, you know, charged the garbage side for the extra pick up day, they could make a ton more money or at least encouraged the recycling. Um...I don't really want to live on a trash heap someday, so I'll make the time today!

Oh and I guess my paradox would be, that like I said, I'm a liberal from CA, very much against war, yet my DH is in the military. :D

I'm similar to several other ladies on here. I am a strong Christian but I am totally pro-choice and pro-gay marriage. And I swear like a sailor too although I'm reeeeeally trying to work on that one! :)

Read all the replies and will hopefully reply later when I'm fully awake.
I want to know where on earth y'all came up with this "crunchy" term. I can infer from what's written, but I don't assume a thing, for the obvious reasons ;)

All the crunchy hippie types I know are militant crunchy hippie types (like "tar & feather the god forsaken wal mart shopper" and 'lecture the woman not still breastfeeding her 3 year old' militant) and far lefties & generally pagan or agnostic sorts. So being religiously conservative and crunchy is a big paradox in my corner of the world. "everyone knows" christians are too concerned about the afterlife to give a rap about this world. As I have been told on more than one occasion, by said crunchy lefties

oh, it must be easy for me! I'm in San Jose... and we have more recycle bins then we do trash bins... so... it's not really going out of my way to be hyper recycle... otherwise... there's no way, hahhahaha

Yeah, up here in Northern California, San Francisco Bay Area, we're kind of forced to recycle... thus making it easy on my laziness!
