What do you do for a living?

I'm a single mother of 3 kids, ages 12, 9 and 2 1/2, that I am raising completely alone. My "real" job is the Operations Manager for one the branches of a major industrial tool supply distribution company. I oversee the warehouse, billing, payroll and babysit 9 salesmen. I LOVE my job!! I never sleep LOL so I scrap at night when my DBF leaves around 11PM

I am a full-time executive legal assistant (workers' compensation defense). I've been at my current firm for 5 years and was with another competitive firm for 5 years before that. I pretty much run the office as well as maintain my attorney's 120 cases. :unsure:

I really wish I was a SAHM but we can't afford the toys (trailer, quads, trips, etc.) if I stay home...

I was a computer analyst for an electric utility (SRP for you AZ gals ;) ) for 15 years. When I had my first son, I telecommuted and only went into the office once a week - I did that for 6.5 years through the first 2 kids - they were home with me. When my twins were born, I quit. For about a year I was just busybusy with 4 kids, then I started into scrapbooking. I worked in that industry for about 7 years, then quit everything.

Now I work FOR one of sisters and her huge website TJFormal.com doing web maintenance and correspondence. And I work WITH my other sister running our Etsy shop Lemon Oak Studio. Both of those are from home.

And then, of course, I'm a "professional" volunteer my boys' schools. Ha! :p

I've never really gotten around to being a housewife...and my house is evidence of that.

I'm a SAHM and I LOOOOOVE it! I've always been a worker, and on my days off I would be SO bored, I was scared that staying at home would kill me. But now, I never want to go back to work, haha! My days are so laid back & I have the best job of playing & caring for my baby girl!

Before I quit my job, I was an office manager for a printing & publishing company. It was a small company (just myself & my boss), so I did lots of different things - from paperwork, payroll, deposits, set-up of printing items, even helping with the presses, cutters & binding machines in the back. While I liked it, I found myself getting bored & careless, and was ready to quit when I found out I was pregnant, so it worked out great!

I'm a digital scrapbooking product designer (entreprenuer) and all that entails:
--> Hand drawing most of my work from scratch
--> Stock photography
--> Insane hours sitting at the computer staring at a screen in photoshop
--> Color Theory
--> Website Design
--> Advertising
--> Album design for both myself and other designers
--> Team Management, Site Management
--> I run The Digi Dares which includes *cracking the whip* at my girls, finding sponsors each month, all the site admin work and trouble shooting, emailing prizes, etc.
--> Sometimes photographer when I feel like it...LOL!

On top of all that, I'm a SAHM to two beautiful boys and a full time student taking 5(!!!!) classes each semester, 2 each summer and I almost have my transferrable AA with an emphasis in graphic illustration (80 credits rather than 60)..then onto my BA next year!

I am a laundress, custodian, cook, nurse and jungle gym.

I also do some designing when my munchkins give me the time.

I do have a BS in Wildlife and Fisheries Sciences. That is coming in handy. ;)

I manage an apartment complex with my DH and I design photography albums (very graphic... NO SCRAP) for a local photographer.

I am 2 semesters away from my B.S. and plan on picking up more photography design gigs after that's all out of the way.

I have two degrees - BS Medical Technology and Nursing, both registered but never have been able to practice. When I passed the boards on Med Tech, I studied Nursing, and after I passed the boards for Nursing, I was busy planning a wedding, building a family and now Im at home, stay at home, and live a life so far from what I planned originally :D

I used to work for a registrar provider and did QA work for them for 5 years before quitting to stay at home.

Command in Chief to a small army, maid, taxi driver, laundress, head chef, chief bottle washer, small time handy woman, floor sweeper, mop wielder, destroyer of dust bunnies and closet monsters, event planner, family historian and all around SUPER WOMAN!!! :D :D :D

I was a correctional officer for about 8 years and then resigned to stay at home. Now besides staying at home with my kiddos, I go to school for graphic design, and have a couple of online businesses (Graffiti Chicks & Jefferson Allen Wade Design), and do my own web design. My family would say I am a full time scrapper though! LOL!!

I was a SAHM for 10 years, then went to Massage Therapy school. Graduated #1 of my class/Valedictorian but was too scared to take the certification class so I don't practice, except for on friends and family.
Currently, I'm the Hardware Team Leader @ Lowe's (Jimmy Johnson sux! lol) and will be starting my nursing preeq's in about a year. :thumbup:
I'm also doing research and will be writing my first novel (during Nanowrimo) to submit for publication! EEK!
Being a writer is my dream, and even if it never happens, it'll be fun trying. (Thanks for ressurecting that for me, LeeAndra!!):wub:

Im Active duty Air Force, I work 12 hour shifts, take care of my 2 kids and active duty hubby (he would be without underware and his wallet if it wasn't for me) (don't tell him I said that Vanessa :) My biggest time to scrap is when Im working nights...everyones sleeping and I pop in a movie and scrap away....Im a wanna be SAHM but I don't think I have the patience...after 2 days off Im ready to go back to work for a couple of days...

Lots of interesting ladies here.

Before I had our girls I was a Loan Officer for a major bank (WAMU) but quickly realized I wanted to be a stay-at-home-mommy. Since then I started designing and selling digital kits... then became the owner of The DigiChick. After about 2 years of that I started doing some freelance graphic design that kinda turned into full-time work from home, so I sold TDC. The freelance work has come to a screeching hault, which is just fine with me since life has been extremely hectic the last few months. Maybe I'll pick it back up when the girls are back to school. Who knows.

I have 2 full time jobs.. daytime is teaching 3rd grade! The 2nd full time job is mommy, chef, chauffer, laundry tech and chief nagger of children :)

OMG can you come help my DS with his 5th grade math!? We are fighting about doing it at this exact moment.:cursing: :mad:

Totally, I am on my way...let me just find that priceline.com website...I actually hated math when I was in school, and studied English in college. It wasn't until I started teaching that I really began to appreciate math. So send me your math questions...I'm listening (I could be the Dr. Phil of math)

OMG, Mandy...you're going to write a book? I'll be able to say "I knew her when..." :D

I just had the exact same episode at my house..what is your son doing in math? Mine is still basically in review--and we transitioned from homeschool to a city school this year (moved to a great district) and he's doing stuff we've already done..but he seems to have forgotten..it's to the point he's just throwing out #'s and it's so frustrating for me b/c i'm good at math..lol I don't know how to simplify it for him

I'm an investment banking analyst..but I took leave after Teaghan was born and I'm just not sure if I'm going to ever be ready to go back lol..I love being at home with my kiddos

well.. I uh.. design. LOL

and mandy I am soooooooooooooooo glad you are going to :) I remember that SF page you made :)

I'm not sure what to call it, but I don't work and i can't be accused of actually keeping house,lol. I'm a stay at home whatever :P
yup, this about sums it up for me.

i have 1 DH, 2 kids, 1 cat.

used to be editor at legal publishing company.

So interesting!

I worked for about 10 years in IT (consulting for different companies, and then finally "settling down" with one) doing business systems analysis and some software cutomization and configuration. I have an undergrad business degree, but was super computer illiterate when I graduated - I wasn't even sure how to turn my first laptop on (or what to do with it once it started...) I've come a long way...

I quit about a year ago after having my first baby. I loved where I worked and miss it sometimes, but I wouldn't trade being home for anything!

BC - I was a merchandise manager for a major book retailer for the Southwest. Then came kids. Now I'm a homeschooling mom and fontographer.

I work at a brokerage firm with fee-based mutual fund accounts. B-O-R-I-N-G!! lol!! I plan on becoming a SAHM in March/April of next year. I'm just couting down the months!!

I am a manager of a plus size retail store (I get 50% off my clothes!) but am currently on maternity leave. I am also a digital designer for Elemental Scraps, and am hopeing to be a SAHM and homeschool my girls, but it depends on our $ situation...

I'm a lecturer at a local private university where I studied for my B. Ed, mostly teaching English Language and Writing Skills. But this semester, I'm branching out as I was 'forced' to teach Grammar (I hate teaching grammar!!) and also Technology in English Language Teaching.

I am also a template designer at ScrapMatters. I love it and secretly wish that I can do that full time. But unless I want my mum to go all crazy on me, I definitely wouldn't do that. (Since I had just graduated a year ago, I think)

I am CEO of my household, with my DH as CFO. My hours are 24/7 with minimal breaks, and even then, all conversations and thoughts revolve around my employers, Maggie and Ryleigh. I am a wife, teacher, nurse, cook, referee, chauffer, housekeeper, scrapbooker, seamstress, boo-boo-kissing, lullaby-singing, all-around busy MOM!

I have my degree in early childhood and taught third grade for three years. Once my kiddos are all in school, I hope to get a masters in Library and Information Science and be a school librarian, or the director of a public library.

What a fun thread! It's so great to get to know you guys a little better.

I used to be a legal assistant for before designing full-time. And now on top of designing full-time here at SSD, I'm a SAHM to two kidlets, I have a custom card business and I'm a freelance designer for My Mind's Eye.

I'm BACK (with my RAWKING new XPS!!)

Anyway...

I'm a full-time elementary school teacher. I'm currently teaching 6th grade Language Arts, Math, and Earth Science. I've been teaching for 12 years and have taught 8th grade Language Arts, 5th grade, and 1st grade.

I do love my career! I was a Liberal Studies major with a triple concentration in Art, Math, and English. :)

In California you can't major in Education, so on top of all my undergrad work, I also have a California State Teaching Credential which required an additional year of post graduate work.

This is such fun getting to know all y'all better!

I'm a tax CPA nerd, currently working (rather infrequently) from home, where I am constantly running after my toddler. I specialize in individuals, trusts, estates, etc. Earlier, I was a tax manager for Arthur Andersen, so I am a bit more careful in vetting who I am working for and with whom! I hope to get my certified financial planner certification soon.
