What a fun thread! 
After 5 1/2 years of being a SAHM, this past January I went back to work. I am a Dr.'s assistant/office clerk for an optomitrist. I absolutely LOVE my job. I was so worried when I went back to work that I was going to be miserable but I'm soooo happy that I was wrong. Over the past year I have also been self teaching myself photograpy. I took a course and have done a bunch of reading. I'm hoping that after another year or two and much more practice I will have my own small photography business. I need some confidence to go with that too though. LOL

I'm features editor for a travel magazine, but my dream job these days is to sleep as much as I can (that and scrap for a living). Talk about late nights--I'm still at work and it's nearly midnight coz we need to meet a deadline!

I work a bit for a birth announcement site owned by our very own Jac, doing some designs, customer orders etc. I also do the website and update as needed.
Otherwise, I used to coach figure skating as my profession, however, I will not be going back this winter. I am planning to go back to school, whenever it is that we actually move (we were supposed to be gone July 1st). I will be doing primary Education, so I can finally do what I've always wanted, teach little kidlets!

Pre-kids I worked in the apparel industry as a technical designer doing product development. I developed products from an aesthetic sketch to a finished garment and would travel to factories to review in-line production as well. I traveled overseas several times a year and to NY 3-4 times a month. It was a completely different life than I have now.
I've been a SAHM for the last 8 years and currently homeschool my 3 oldest kids as well.

This is so interesting how we all come from so many different work backgrounds, but share the same passion...
As for me, I have worked since I was 16 to help support myself and get by without the help of my parents who unfortunately were not really around to be able to provide for my needs. It wasn't until I got married and had started a family in 2004 that I was able to be a SAHM and enjoy these few precious years with my children. During this new chapter in life, I also discovered my love for digital scrapbooking and also decided to enroll in online college program for Graphic Design and pursue a career doing something I enjoy and love while being able to work from home. I'm not sure what type of career I'll pursue once I'm done (hopefully March 2009), but I know that whatever I do, I hope it turns out to be a success...

I guess I'd like to just say that what I do for a living is living to do what I love and be with those I love (including you folks here at SSD.) :wub:

Hi! I am a certified Elementary/Middle School Teacher (grades 1-8) who is not teaching! And not because I don't want to be ... because I haven't been able to find a job locally, and I'm not really willing to move. I'd like to become certified to work with Pre-K to 3rd grade so that I can hopefully get in through the 4 year old Kindergarten program or something. I need to get my behind in gear to find out what that would cost me.

The clinic I work at offers a sliding scale of payment for patients whose income is within a certain range. I got this job because of my history in customer service and banking ... I used to work at a credit union as a teller for 6.5 years while I was in college and for a while after I graduated.

I am a SAHM of 3 boys ... 19, 14, and 13. I am homeschooling the two younger ones this year...and am already finding out that homeschooling 2 is definitely more time and patience consuming than the one child I did last year. Last year was easy as I could sit next to him on my laptop and scrap...but was there for any questions he might have. This year I haven't even had time to check my e-mail during the day yet...but am hoping this will calm down once they get used to the routine...and I get family and friends TRAINED again that it's school in the daytime and I don't answer the phone during the day. I have an impatient mom that called 3 times in 5 minutes yesterday because her computer shut down her computer game. :thumbdown:
I scrapped as fast as I could earlier this month to get as many sweet reward points as I could get...because I knew when school started it would slow down... just didn't realize it would be an abrupt halt! I'm tired and uninspired tonight.

I am a medical coder in a busy orthopaedic clinic. I assign ICD-9 diagnosis codes to each oatients clinic visit as well as assign CPT codes for injections, xays, and minor procedures. We are SOOO far behind...I am currently working on June charges so it is quite stressful sometimes. For the most part, I like what I do. If I could be a SAHM, I think I would like it!!

I have been in the Navy for 17 1/2 years...I am a hospital corpsman whihc is kinda like be a medical assistant, EMT, lab tech, and anything else they could ask me to do...but I am a certified laboratory tehnician since I went to the Navy Lab Tech school back in 1995...right now I am not working as a lab tech but as a supervisor for the enlisted staff on our inpatient nursing ward...so this is a new experience for me, I just started last Wed (8/13)...but I also raise 4 kids!!! and am the guest CT coordinator over at ACOT...

Oh yeay, Nettie, another tax nerd! I'm not a CPA but I got a masters in tax.:thumbup:
I was also a tax manager for a Fortune 500 company up until a few months ago in the Central Coast before we moved six hours away. I'm still doing corporate tax for a private company, lower title less responsibilities same long hours :thumbdown: .
