This is really serious stuff.

I am crushed that I was out while this discussion was going on and that the Fizzster made a decision w/o my incredibly valuable input. :p

I have all but given up on tagging BUT I still LOVE, ADORE, CHERISH Acdsee. The interface alone is worth it IMO. So much better than using Windows Explorer. It is fast. I always open ACDSee first when I scrap and I leave it open. I open up PS through ACDSee.

And it does a bunch of stuff. Yesterday I just found the Compare Images feature.

I wish I could sit down with you Lizzy and show you all the reasons I love ACDSee.

I feel myself going all hyper now just thinking of all the reasons I love it.

updated prev post to reflect that i want/need your input. :D

when i get it...we can have a yahoo im day and you can tell me all about it. i would really love that!

Bought it, opened it, added a few things, closed it, never opened it since...

(I'm pretty much a kit scrapper and I don't mind browsing through my folders.)

I haven't read any of the responses but this is me!!

I resister ACDSee for a LONG time...I thought there is no way I need a program to hlep me scrap!!! I also though I don't have that much stuff (I only have about 40 GB woth of stuff) I can find what I need.

Then one day someone here posted a link to it and it was 50% off and then someone else found a 10% off coupon code so I took the plunge and ended up getting it for like $23 bucks.

It took me a while to tag everything and I stil only used it every once in a while, but then when I got everything tagged I found out that I could not scrap with out it. I tried but it's almost like I COULD NOT functions!!

So now I open it before I even open PSE!!! Alos remember when I didn't hink I had alot of stuff....who the heck would have guess I had over 1000 frames.....over 500 orange papers....yes SOLID ORANGE!!!! Plus as I was going through and tagging stuff I forgot a bunch of aweseom stuff I had!!

Plus when I am scrapping and THINK I'm looking for a blue ribbon I almost always find something different that workd better!!!! I use to be a kits only scrapper but ACDSee has helped me branch out and I can now make a georgeous LO from like 20 different kits!!!!

So there ya have it my 2 cents worth!!! Take it or leave it babe!!! :D :D

Just wanted to mention that you can also use ACDSee to categorize your actual photos. So when it comes to making that album for MIL or whoever, you just search for her name or the kids names or a holiday or whatever and up pop the pics you need! :)

Heather brought up a good point I use ACDSee for this too (after I got all my scrapping stuff tagged) my categories for photos are fairly simple I have one for each member of the family and a misc category!! It's so nice when I get a new kit and it "screams" one of my kids to just click on their name and have years and years worth of pictures of ONLY them!!!

I totally need to categorize my photos.
I mean, I need to tag the majority of my stash, but that's besides the point right now. Photos are the most important for me at the moment.

I real quick made some screen shots for ya, I'm kind of a details girl so I really have som specific catagories!!! :D :D :D

my main side bar
acdsee-one.jpg

Catagories under my elements tab
acdsee-two.jpg

More specifics (for like ribbons)

Paper catagories

Here are my photo catagories

My cats (when I tag) are that detailed too. It makes things so much easier. I think I'm gonna tag this weekend. I always say that when a new ACDSee thread pops up, lol.

I'm back. I have to babble about ACDSee. I hardly tag. I'm mostly a kit scrapper nowadays. BUT I still love ACDSee.

  • can customize background color to see white pngs easily
  • can preview TTF files
  • can see PSD previews (provided PSD files were saved to maximize compatibility)
  • can zip and extract archives
  • can batch rename and resize
  • pop up previews
  • can view ABR files
  • can select multiple items and open them all up @ once in PS/PSE
  • can view contents of multiple folders at once in one window. (this is really cool, i should do it more)
  • can upload to SmugMug and Flickr (i've only tried with SmugMug but works great)
  • can extract frames from video clips
So the tagging/organizing stuff is all well and good, but ACDSee does a lot more. It is basically Windows Explorer but much cooler and better and I usually use ACDSee to browse through all files instead of using Windows Explorer.

You have to remember though that if you want to rename/move/delete files you MUST do that WITHIN ACDSee or your changes won't be recognized.

I will admit that the first time I tried ACDSee I did not like it. BUT I gave it a 2nd shot and am completely in love with it.

It is def worth every penny IMO.

You nut.

On a scale of 1-10, I'd have to give it a 20, lol! I seriously NEVER scrap without it. I open it simultaneously with PSE! I am a very mix & match scrapper, so its SO handy! I organize everything into these folders:
Alphas, Blossoms, Brads & Fasteners, Brushes, Buttons & Charms, Chipboard, Date Stamps, Doodling, Edges & Borders, Epoxies, Flourishes & Swirls, Glitter & Bling, Metal Embellishments, Miscellaneous, Overlays, Paint Splatters, Papers, Photo Corners, Photo Frames, Ribbon, Stickers, Stitching, Strings, Tags & Journalling Blocks, Templates (which are sub-categorized according to # of pictures), and Word-art.

Before I used ACDSee, I would know which ribbon I wanted, I could picture it, but I could NOT remember who made it. I would spend like an hour looking through folders until I found it. Now I just click "Ribbons" and it takes like 4 seconds to find the ribbon I'm looking for!

Man I wish you could come show me how to work this thing. I downloaded a trial of this a couple days ago because my stash is starting to grow and I am getting to where I can't find things or I have to go searching through a million folders to find a staple LOL. I opened it and OH My Goodness I was so lost  I think the thing that made me want to cry is that when I downloaded a file, when I went to unzip it I had no clue how to move it to my EHD. My system right now is to unzip the file in my downloads foler and then move it over to my EHD but with ACDSee I no longer had the little "Extract" button at the top. I finally just removed it from my computer cause I couldn't figure it out. I would really love to use it cause it looks so cool but I am so computer dumb.

I have it, but I have nothing tagged.

But I enjoy it because you can see the PSD file thumbnails in it, and that part makes me happy. LoL

Otherwise, I tend to be a kit scrapper too for the most part too. After I purged last week, I rediscovered tons of stuff I didn't know I had.

I always just right click on the zip file in ACDSee and choose extract. Course that's what I did before ACDSee too!! :D :D

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I feel like such a dork for it being such a simple answer but I am so excited now. I can't wait to start tagging and getting organized and girl, you are the queen of organization. I may have to use some of your categories

I LOVE the batch rename feature! I just discovered it a few weeks ago, and I use it all the time time. I adore ACDSee!

Meems--this viewing ABRs that you speak of--is it in a new version? I can't do that with what I have. Am I doing something wrong?

it's in ACDSee10. what version do you have?

Lizzy, do you use Windows Vista? Because if you do, I believe you can use Windows Photo Gallery to do the exact same thing. I have been using it to organize my stuff. You can create tags for anything you want and you don't have to duplicate files. It sounds exactly the same as ACDsee, although I haven't ever used ACDSee, so I am not sure. But I have created tags for all my frames, ribbons, paper, etc.

I love it - I bought it over a year ago to organize but never got around to organizing anything - I just love it because it loads and opens photos so fast and I like it for general photo browsing and storing.

I learn something new everyday! I had no idea you could do this. Now I have to decidewhich one to use. The only thing is that I am hoping to get a new computer when our house sells so I have a question for you ACDSee pros. I am only tagging the things on my EHD. Is there a way to save all that and just switch it over to my new computer when I get it?

Yes. You can do that. You need to make sure to save a good copy of your ACDsee database. Then you can restore your ACDSee database to your new computer. And as long as you have the same file structure you should be good. digiscrapinfo.com has more info on stuff like this and a forum if you have questions.

I love it love it love it. I'm not a kit scrapper unless I'm doing something specifically for a challenge or something like that. I love being able to put things in categories so that when I'm doing a page I can find, say, a red paper, or a paper with stars, or a paper with swirls, or a black ribbon or bow or knot with no effort at all. And I love that I can put things in multiple categories - for instance, I can put a ribbon in the green category and the dot category just by adding tags. It was totally worth the monetary and time investment for me.

Edited to add that I always have it open when I'm scrapping. I search for elements in ACDSee and then you can click them and drag them directly into PSE. No more file, open, etc.

Thanks Meems. Will check it out!

Actually Amanda, you can just have your database ON your EHD. That's what I do so I can use it between my PC and laptop! :)
