I have one and it is in a spot that most people never see, so people are always surprised I have it. I have had it over 25 years now, and it looks it. I really wanted it at the time, but after I got it, I was over tattoos and never wanted another one. There wasn't anything wrong with it, I just didn't love it like I thought I would.

If I had it to do over again, I would skip it. But it isn't deep or meaningful, just something I thought was pretty. If it meant something, it might mean more.

He's always been super afraid of needles, but after a very awful comment from a co-worker about his scars, he started seriously considering the sleeve (Oh wow, even just typing that makes me so F-ing angry again!). Josh is in such a better place now! I'm so proud of him!

People can be so insensitive. You never know what a person has gone through to get their scars, so commenting on them is so thoughtless.

I have a huge one across my neck that always got a ton of unsolicited comments. Because I was sick of the comments and explaining things, I started making up stories about what had happened, the more outrageous the better. I told some whoppers and left a lot of nosy people with their eyes bugging out of their heads and didn't feel a bit of guilt. LOL I did it once with my mom and she was trying so hard not to laugh that she almost peed herself. It felt good to be able to laugh about it, TBH, which helped me get over being self conscious about it.

Josh should do whatever makes him happy, and if he wants a sleeve, he should get it. If he is thinking about it because of some asshat, I suggest he consider the source and not allow them to influence him.

I was once told I should get a tattoo over my neck scar to hide it. I wasn't tempted, but I also thought you couldn't tattoo over a scar. Is that not correct? Cause I have a scar on my wrist that I would be okay covering from when I caught it in a machine at work.

If I did get one, it would be a wren for my grandbaby. That would mean something.

Yeah, it was really rough. It sent my kid, who has come so far, spiraling. I'm very thankful for the relationship I have with him and we were able to really talk it out.

He goes back and forth about getting a sleeve. I really think once he's done with school and working, he will probably do it. I'm not against him doing it, I just didn't want him to do it when he was in an emotion down-spiral.

We researched tattoos on scars a bit, and it sounds like you have to find someone who kind of specializes in it?

I love that you make up outrageous stories about your scar! People say things that aren't thought through. It amazes me. Josh has answered kids with, "I got attacked by a lion." lol

I also have a scar - on my wrist - from an accident when I was a kid. The thought of getting a tattoo over it turns my stomach. I can't even wear a watch on that wrist. Thankfully it's not a bumpy or highly visible scar.

Ohh lordy uhmm I have 16 tattoos atm But every single tattoo that I have has a meaning for me. I always take my time thinking about what and where and what it means to me.

There is a big one in the works, but it's so very expensive so I really need to save first...let me see if I can take some pictures tomorrow to show them

I was 23 when I had my first and the last one is just a few weeks old

Nothing is wrong with it, just no significance, it's a ladybug on my foot.

I also have a butterfly on my right shoulder blade (Vanessa means butterfly in greek), I have three hearts on my lower back that I got after Keira was born, so one for her, my husband and myself. And then two years ago I got an infinity symbol on the inside of my wrist that is all three kids names in morse code, with a small horseshoe connected. My husband and I were both in the military and we met, we were both Morse Code operators in Japan, so that's where the code comes in and the horseshoe is for my hometown of Horseshoe Beach, Fl.

For me tattoos are very personal and an expression of who I am. I have full arm sleeves and almost full lower leg sleeves (still working on one), and half of my back. I did have a couple when I was younger. Two I covered and one was re-worked. None of them were because I disliked them, they just got old and muddled and needed to be re-freshed with newer techniques and ink quality. My small dragons became much bigger ones and I added on and refreshed my fairy.

I added a lighthouse and aquatic sleeve for my mom who passed when I was fairly young. Got a combo Science/ Rush (the band) arm sleeve/half back dragon because I am a nerdy scientist. Added a big koi fish for my dad opposite the fairy and am working on a Valkyrie opposite my lower leg Dragonto remind myself that I can battle through anthing. Its not for everyone, but for me its an expression of who I am and shows my love of art. I scrapped a couple of pages so far on them.

I have one, I got it a month after I turned 40, because a month before I turned 40 I lost my dad to Pancreatic Cancer.

I debated probably 6-7 years before I got one.

I have a small pilcrow (the editing symbol for a new paragraph) on the inside of my right wrist. Unfortunately, there is no new page editing symbol so I went with the next best thing. Getting tattooed on your wrist, especially for women, is actually pretty painful so thank goodness it's small and solid black! I'm glad to have gotten it & don't regret it in the slightest but I don't feel that "pull" that so many people seem to feel after they get their first tattoo.

My husband and I have talked about getting the word "always" (one of "our" words) in each others' handwriting tattooed on us but we don't have firm plans about that. My husband has 11 tattoos, including a very long text-based one on his back, so the pain factor is not an issue for him.

Generally speaking, I'm risk adverse -- I'm not the type of person who would wander into a tattoo parlor on a whim without having something really thought out -- but I also recongize that it's a very personal decision.. As the old saying goes, to each his own! I always joke around that it would be great if you could get a tattoo that you only had to commit to for 2-3 years (without it looking crappy over time). If someone could make that happen, they'd make a lot of money!

A friend of mine has several tattoos and she said the most painful for her was the back of her neck. I wonder if it's person-specific or general for what is most painful.

If that included a "you can make it stay longer if you love it" option so the placement would stay exactly the same, I'd be in. I really wish one of my tattoos was in a different place (so I could put something bigger where it is now) so giving it a trial and then redoing it somewhere else would have been nice. My mom said ankle and I was 17 so what she said goes.

I covered up the very first one I had done (at 18y). It hadn't been well thought out, and unfortunately I regretted it over the years... It took me a very long time to take the plunge and cover it up despite everything.

That totally makes sense. My sister had a couple on her ankles with guys' names (that she is no longer with. lol) covered up with other things.
Having a tattoo poorly executed is so scary! I mean, it's permanent! Yikes!!

I have one that is on my foot in the area covered by my flip flop strap. (Always wear them and have the permanent suntan lines to show it.) I have Love You More written. Each word is written by someone special to me. I love when I'm barefoot and my feet are up, I see this cute note! But I'm also very thankful, it's in an area that is easy to cover up.
