This has probably already been discussed :p

I don't have any tattoos, but I recently ordered some temporary tattoos to try out and see what I think. Hubby doesn't like tattoos at all, so there's that barrier... I guess we'll see :)

What are your thoughts? Do you have a tattoo (tattoos)? Do you have any regrets about getting them? Is there a significance to the tattoos you have or are they just fun?

I have 3 and I would have them all removed if it wasn't so costly andtake years.
I would be open to getting a tattoo as an adult bc I feel like I would be more thoughtful about it/them. I was 17-22 years old when I got mine.

No tattoos here. I personally don't want them, but it's YOUR body and you should be able to decide what to do.

One of Jay's aunts had a tattoo of Pete The Magic Dragon on her decolletage. She showed it to me one time after years had passed, weight gained and weight lost, and that cute little dragon had morphed into a Lord of the Rings nazgul. LOL I was in my early 20s then, and it certainly didn't make me change my mind about having them on my body.

My brother has a huge tattoo and it's very symbolic. He is an Army Ranger, and there's a big story there for him. I say if it helps you remember something or document what your body went through, go for it.

What are you thinking about getting?

Our daughter got hers between 18-20 and feels the same way.

Oh.my.goodness!! :D Seriously ROFL right now! Thank you, Cheryl. I really needed that!

I'm considering the word "always" on the side of my forearm. IDK, I doubt I'll do it.

When our middle - Josh - survived a suicide attempt in 2019, I designed a heart with his name and a semi-colon and had planned to get it on the inside of my wrist. I chickened out, but am still thinking about it.

None here, I personally don't like them. (Mostly because of the "body changes as you age" type thing. A cute little butterfly can turn into a moth). I do have a daughter who has 2 small ones, very small. A heart and a cross on her hand. They both have a significant meaning to her. She got them last fall or 2 falls ago? It was within the last few years.

I do have a friend who got one of her sister's handwriting when her sister passed away. The friend and her neice (so the sister's daughter) both have the same one. They are smaller and done in a spot that would not be so noticeable.

None for me. Personally I don't like them but it is an individual's decision as to whether they get one or not.

I was surprised in 2023 when I saw my cousin had gotten one. She is a year older than me and also never had any. It is not very big and on her arm near the inside of her elbow. I couldn't tell what it was so asked her. It was an outline of a bucket hat. Her son that passed away unexpectedly in 2022 always wore bucket hats. She got it for him.

I have 4: three small and one that ended up much bigger than I had planned because I am both an amazing canvas and willing to give high-quality photos for an artist's portfolio ;)

1. Pink/red shooting star with a rainbow tail - inside left ankle - A bunch of cousins went and got tattoos after my grandma passed away. I was 14 and went with them to watch intently. I (obviously) did not get tattooed then but drew the design I now have in that spot over and over again with Sharpie. My mom and aunt took me to get it when I was 16. I spent the very brief time while being inked chatting Lord of the Rings with the gentleman next to me working on his LOTR sleeve.

2. "no day but today" in my high school English teacher's handwriting - outside left ankle - You know how there's that teacher that just changes your life? I told her I wanted to get her handwriting tattooed on me and ended up scanning the page she filled in my yearbook to get it. My mom took me because I was only 17 when I graduated and we went to the shop that almost everyone in my high school went to. I have some regrets about placement (since I wish I had more space for a much bigger piece there now) and I'm annoyed that the artist didn't listen when I said I wanted it solid black but overall I'm still glad I did it. (My mom got a handprint in a heart over her heart in memory of my stepdad that same day.) Down the line, I may see if it can be incorporated into the roots of a mangrove tree I want.

3. Black ampersand (&) - left ring finger - My husband and I have matching tattoos. We got them in part because neither of us thought we would ever wear wedding bands, even though we both actually love and wear our wedding rings. We got them a few months before he formally proposed on the date we wanted to elope on (11-11-11); seeing as I had decided I was going to marry him before we were even dating and he asked me informally twice, it wasn't like we were in danger of breaking up. We did it the day after the wedding of my best friend from preschool. The part that sits under my rings is pretty fuzzy but I was told finger tattoos need touch-ups every 5 years and I haven't touched this one in 14.

4. Delirium from Neil Gaiman's Sandman series - outer right ankle/leg - A few months before I got married in 2013, one of my "bridal secret service" and I were going to get tattoos together. I was getting Delirium and she was getting Daniel from the same series. One of Daniel's white ravens was supposed to be watching Delirium and one of her fish balloons was supposed to be following Daniel. We called around A LOT of shops and everyone was too intimidated by the artwork to do it... until we found a shop that was game. The artist really wanted to do the big watercolor reference image I brought. (I sent a bunch of reference images in different art styles, expecting something more simple.) The shop was closing early that day so he only charged me for the time he would have spent on the smaller piece and then kept working after closing on what I still think is a masterpiece, 12+ years later. When I've moisturized, you can still see the highlights in the beads on her bracelet. I still need to add the white raven eventually but I think I need to be with my friend to do it.

I have a few others that I want - a mangrove with a roseate spoonbill and maybe a manatee, a medium format film negative of Dry Tortugas National Park from the air*, the Milky Way at different times of year in a whale shark and a spotted eagle ray - but they're all really detail-oriented and therefore will be both expensive and time-consuming to get.

There was a time I was thinking of getting one, a very small one, but I never make it into a realisation. I don't think I want to go through the pain of doing it.
I did ask Lan's opinion of it and he is against it and I never press further.

Lordy, if I don't laugh, I'd spend all my time crying. :p

Cheryl! You are too funny!
I have no desire to get any. They have become too trendy, plus I'd rather spend my money on scrapping.

Man, when I'm in America, I feel like I'm the only person left without a tattoo. It's good to know I'm not alone. : )

I'm a total baby about pain, so I can't imagine paying someone to cause it for me. Your reasons sound solid, Tammy, and it doesn't seem like something you'd regret.

Brenda, your Neil Gaiman tattoo is amazing! I read Good Omens recently, and it was so fun. I've got a couple more of his on my Libby holds.

I have 3 and I am contemplating getting my entire leg done. Only reason I don't have more is because of the cost. But our economy have somewhat turned recently.
Going against the grain here, I see :D They all have meaning to me, but more than that I just like the look and they make me feel like me, if that makes sense :P

hey! I love tattoos and would do more if I could $ lol

the first one I made was right after everything changed with the first thing Di told me ("amar é tudo" = "love is everything"). I can't remember even feeling anything during the time the girl were doing my tattoo.

the second one was his heart, following the "I carry your heart with me" idea and, honestly, every time I see these two tattoos, the ones I did 'for him', I feel him closer. ♥

after these, I went little 'crazy' and all the others were just for me, without big meaning.

I did one with butterflies (a little peek here https://www.instagram.com/sbasicdesigns/p/DG0t_LbOcqq/) right before feeling good enough to download the first app I dl to try to talk to other men. lol
I know, deep down inside me, that it was one of my best moments with myself, if that makes sense in english. it made me SEE ME, kwim?

attachment.php

after that, I made one with moons because I love watching the moon and my 'capricorn thing'. constellation - I think it is the name. but this part is silly and I just made because I love stars etc.

attachment.php

the last one I made was the bigger and you can see here: https://www.instagram.com/p/DN-oqsPDr3h/?img_index=1 - this one has sbasic and some foliages and it is still a work in progress. :)

from all the ones I have, the last one was the only one I felt little pain and lots of itching due to the healing process - but I would do much more if I could $ lol

I love all of your tattoos. The colors of your butterflies are gorgeous and I am a sucker for a good star.

thank you! ♥ I need to make the lines from the butterfly little thicker to match to the last one, but I love this one :)

Have you ever seen a video where someone asks each person she love to draw a star, and then she goes and get all the drawn stars tattooed? I would love to do that. lol

I'm a total baby about pain, so I can't imagine paying someone to cause it for me.

Brenda, your Neil Gaiman tattoo is amazing! I read Good Omens recently, and it was so fun. I've got a couple more of his on my Libby holds.

I loved Good Omens both times I've read it. I got my mom to do American Gods as an audiobook in her car (and only in her car) and she loved it so much. The story involves traveling across the US so it just wouldn't be as good in her living room ;)

The actual needle was more annoying than painful but sitting still with my leg bent in a way I don't normally keep it hurt after 2 hours. He laughed when I asked for a break to go to the bathroom because I otherwise just let him work. Maybe because I have chronic pain, the actual tattoo wasn't as bad?

I have not but that sounds fantastic.

I don't know how easily it would be to do a photorealistic Milky Way/galactic core as a tattoo but I know I would be bringing in my own astrophotography for reference if I ever had the money for my star whale shark.

Ohh lordy uhmm I have 16 tattoos atm :o :D But every single tattoo that I have has a meaning for me. I always take my time thinking about what and where and what it means to me.

There is a big one in the works, but it's so very expensive so I really need to save first...let me see if I can take some pictures tomorrow to show them :o

I was 23 when I had my first and the last one is just a few weeks old

Wow! Your Delirium tattoo is beautiful! A friend of mine got a gorgeous full-color flowers tattoo on her wrist. It made me want one.
You have a lot of beautiful ideas!

That's kind of where I've been with the idea, too. I guess I'll see how I like the temporary tattoos ;)

They really are trendy. I still would like to get the one I created for my son, but I guess we'll see.

He's talked about getting a "sleeve" on his left arm because he has self-harm scars that some people are very inconsiderate about. So he is considering getting tattoos to cover them up.

I love the significance of your tattoo! Your family tattoos are awesome!

I haven't looked into the cost, but one friend who has several tattoos said that they can be quite pricey.
I hope you're able to get your leg done as you want to!

I remember when you posted about getting your first one. I think it was another "inspiration" moment for me.

I really love your butterflies one! If I had the guts, I'd love to do something like that

I have... um.. I think 5? hard to remember. lol All of mine have either a meaning or were done with people to capture a moment in time. My most recent was a matching one with my daughter. Mine's on my forearm, her's is on her ankle. The daffodils are birthmonth flowers for both my kids & the holly berry is for December, both my hubby & I's birthmonth.

That is a good reason to get a sleeve. Turn a negative into a positive piece of art. My niece has, I'm not sure what's it called, a pant leg? Like a sleeve but on a leg. I don't think her job allows tattoos to show, and she has to take out her nose piercing at work, so she works around the rules.
I'm so glad you son is in a better place. It's a crippling thing to go through. . .for everyone.

He's always been super afraid of needles, but after a very awful comment from a co-worker about his scars, he started seriously considering the sleeve (Oh wow, even just typing that makes me so F-ing angry again!). Josh is in such a better place now! I'm so proud of him!
