Sewing: Mission Accomplished

Brodo gettin her Swerb on
WOOT! Ok so the other day I posted about Donna Downey's Inspiration Journals. Then I went off to try and make my own. I finished it last night, and while it isn't perfect, it is DANG cute!! I'm going to make a TON of them, cuz I bought more fabric last night when I stopped at Joann's to get the pretty big button :) Those bundles of fabric for quilting are PERFECT. I think I can get 3 pieces out of each one, and there are usually 4 or 5 pieces in a bunch. I like putting the 2 together like in this one, so that would be 12-15 books from $10 or less of fabric! The cover is pretty filmsy, so for my next one I'm gonna try cutting up an old t-shirt and seeing if that helps stabilize it. Otherwise I'll go get some more fabric or some thin batting to put inside.

Anyway, I'm rambling. The project really wasn't that hard. I made a few mistakes, but I think it's dang cute for my first attempt, lol. And now I know what everyone is getting for Christmas presents :p
ETA: There are 14 sheets of paper, so it's 28 pages.

They have fabric called stiffy-not sure if that is the name or not but it is a thicker stabalizing fabric that would make them stiff, my mom makes purses and she uses that for bottoms to make them stand out and not lose their shape, let me look to see if I can find the product and a picture.

It's just one book :p I'm not THAT fast, lol.

Stiffy ya say? I'll have to look into that, thanks hon :)

Oh that came out so cute! I'd been wondering if she used anything inside the cover fabric so that's good to know. Awesome job!

Col.....you ROCKED it girl!!! Looks great and I love that fabric choice!!!! I don't know if you mentioned it but what size did you make that, I would love to make a few in different sizes too!!!! I also suggest if you want to make it REALLY stiff to use the needlepoint plastic stuff in between your layers of fabric..It would still be flexible but a bit more stable. I use that in the bottom of my purses and it works great!!!!

Thanks girl :)

I just cut a piece of quilters fabric in half. So that was 11x18 I think. The paper inside is 8.5x6. So I think the final dimensions for the fabric pieces ended up being something like 16x10/10.5 or so. I top stitched it right sides facing in and left a hole, and then did another top stitch around 1/4" - 3/8" around the final piece.

In the future, I'm going to make some that are roughly 7x7 when folded. Then I can get 2 sheets to write on out of a 12x12 piece of cardstock.
And then others I'm going to make roughly 9.5x6.5 and use 8.5x11 pieces of cardstock for the insides.
