PPH - Postpartum Hemorrhage

Hello all. I woke up this morning finding myself a little frantic and scared. No. More like terrified would be the word... and crying. I have 4 children, and after each of the last two were born, I experienced postpartum hemorrhaging. I was lucky enough to survive both times. I really nearly died with the last one, I hung on to dear life by a thread. Shortly after the last one happened, I found myself kind of traumatized by the whole experience and knowing physically in a very real and dramatic way what slowly dying felt like.

Shortly after having Cameron, my last baby, I made this layout to express how I was feeling and thinking that I had overcome that fear and trauma...

But...

I am finding myself revisiting those same fears now that I am about to have my fifth baby who will be my last child. And you can say, "well, you brought this upon yourself" and you would be completely right. But the fact still remains that in 4 weeks or so I will be delivering this baby and my fear still remains. My doctor is aware of the situation and I will remind him again when I go in to deliver this baby. And my husband will remind him as well. They NEED to be prepared for whatever happens. I just cannot help to feel scared about the possibility of what could happen to me if I experience PPH again, which most likely I will (since I have had it with the last two babies).

I am getting on my knees pleading that I can survive anything thrown my way and that I can still mother my children and take care of them.

If you can, please pray for me or send good thoughts that everything will be fine and that I may find the comfort and calmness I need. Thank you so much in advance.

Has anyone else here experienced PPH?

You've absolutely got good thoughts heading your way. I've never experienced that and can only imagine how terrifying the prospect is. Hugs sweetie!

I've never had PPH but I had pre-eclampsia with my first. I was so scared toward the end of my second pregnancy that I would possibly get pre-eclampsia again (thankfully I didn't).
It is always so scary to think about having complications but it's great that your doctor will be aware and ready, just in case. Sending you very good thoughts and prayers!

Thank you Keely, Rachael, and Kristin. <3

Rachael I had pre-eclampsia with my first 3. So I hear you.

I would be scared too, Yari! Big HUGS! I will be thinking of and praying for you. I have a friend in my neighborhood who had that happen with her 3rd baby. It was really scary. But, she just delivered her 4th baby a few weeks ago with no complications. Hopefully, that will be the case for you too.

lots of prayers. If I remember right, you are LDS, have you considered asking for a blessing? You will be in my thoughts, I hope this delivery goes smoothly and without any complications.

I think you have a valid reason to be afraid...BUT, I know you're going to be just fine because you'll be in my prayers and the prayers and thoughts of so many others. Is there anything the docs can do to help prevent it?

We'll just pray that you won't experience at all this time!

Hugs!!! Sending you strength and prayers for a calm delivery.

I didn't have PPH - that would be really scary!!! I had my blood pressure during delivery sky rocketed that my mom thought I was going to have a stroke... she was frantic, I was just focused to get that darn kid out of me. :)

That sounds incredibly scary and traumatic. Sending positive thoughts for a safe delivery and strength for you to deal with the fear between now and then.

I will CERTAINLY pray for you, Yari! :hugs:

When I had Benjamin, it was via an emergency c-section and I was so out of it by the time he was born I remember thinking "What in the heck? You want me to smile for a picture? I think I'm dying here!" I was kinda panicking on the inside because I had that whole experience of feeling like your life is slowly slipping away... and I felt like no one was taking it seriously. Maybe they were and they were just calmly sewing me back up first. But their calm actually freaked me out more... like, "Do you people even care? This is not normal..."

So--having been there, I will be keeping you in my prayers constantly! I've been there and I know your fears! Try to rest on the thought that God will take care of things, no matter what is ahead of you. Don't let your fears consume your thoughts. Try to live in a place of trusting in Him. And we'll all be praying that things go much better than expected for you. :D

*hugs* I'm not pregnant right now because I have had two bad pregnancies, and as much as I want more kids, I'm terrified. I know what you mean. And did I mention that I broke my tailbone with my first? It's totally normal to be terrified of birth, especially with past bad experiences. I will be praying for you, and second that you should get a blessing. Get one every time you are terrified. I always felt that the panic and depression I had when I was pregnant were happening because that little spirit would be such a force for good. I found that comforting and it gave me the strength to keep going.

Also, have you heard much about doTERRA essential oils? I have friends who swear by them. After a quick google search I found that there are recommended oils for PPH. My VT partner used them throughout her pregnancy and delivery and couldn't believe how smoothly everything went. Let me know if you want me to put you in contact with someone with more info than me. When my partner is back in the states (she went to China to have her baby with family nearby) I plan on starting up with the oils.

Oh Yari! That is so scary! I have no experience with PPH, but I will definitely pray daily for you!!

So scary Yari! I'm sorry! I'm actually afraid of this happening to me every time. It hasn't happened before, but I do bleed, a lot. I have had to have pitocin right away and a shot once or twice to help... so I'm worried that won't be enough at some point. Are you anemic? I think that can contribute as well. I'm going to start taking iron again to see if that will help.

I hope it goes smoothly for you and better than you could hope for!

((hugs))
Out of four births I've only had ONE good one. And Mason's was just terrifying and one of the major reasons that I never ever ever want to have another baby, so I totally get the fear.
But I'm sure you'll be fine, I mean with all us praying for you and sending you good thoughts how could you not be?

Oh Yari.....Hugs and prayers coming your way. Get a priesthood blessing, then have faith in what is mentioned in the prayer. Is elective caesarian an option? I chose that for my second baby, but for different reasons, and was so glad that I did. The peace of mind as much as anything was worth it.

I was wondering the same things as Jacinda....can you talk to your doctor about a cesarian? My doctor was actually the one who recommended them to me.

Thank you all so much for the prayers and positive thoughts. I am going to get a blessing soon for comfort and one before I go in to deliver this baby. That should also help. I need to have more faith and less fear but it is definitely easier said than done. :/

About a c-section I have thought about it but haven't talked with my doctor about it. I guess it's time to bring it up and see what his opinion is.

Megan I actually did not know that there was an oil that could help with that. I have a friend that sells doTerra oils so I will ask her about it. I'm curious about it now.

Sarah, that is exactly it, except it sounds like you were in much better care than I was in. The extreme heavy bleeding like a faucet that's turned on literally, the passing out, then not being able to be awaken by any attempt until some of the bleeding has subsided, the rock bottom low blood pressure, the super forceful kneading the uterus though its just been in heavy trauma and hang on for dear life cause that hurts more than having the baby itself, and the shots and pitocin to help with the situation. It's all too much to think about.

I found this, if it helps when you talk to your friend.

HEMORRHAGING
Postpartum hemorrhaging is excessive bleeding following child birth. It is commonly defined as loosing 500ml of blood after vaginal birth and generally occurs within 24hours of giving birth. Seek medical attention immediately. To prevent hemorhage or as a first aid treatment on the way to your medical provider apply 1-3 drops helichrysum on lower back, lower belly over uterus to prevent hemorrhage and encourage healing.

I bleed a lot too. They all said it's because I'm a redhead. I'm not sure why, but all of the nurses agree. I usually have to have oxygen and pitocin. They've never panicked over it or informed me about it, but I guess I did almost pass out both times when they tried to take me to the bathroom, so I had to lay down in recovery longer.

Fortunately most of my births are blurry in my memory.

Oh Yari that is soooooo scary, I can't even imagine the fear you are experiencing. Hopefully with the knowledge of it, you and your dr. will be able to resolve anything quickly and you will be just fine. Hang in there it's gonna be ok! I will be keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

.

I've had several friends who had C-sections for a variety of reasons. I think your history of severe bleeding would definitely make me was to talk to your doc about it! Hope you can have some peace of mind! Hugs!

Oh Yari, that sounds awful! I'm sorry. It doesn't get that bad for me at all, but I always think it will. I am super interested to hear if the oils really work, that's amazing really.

Oh, Yari, I totally understand how you would be scared. I did not have PPH, but I had a number of other issues during my last few weeks of pregnancy and my labor/delivery. I have not had another child, but I would be very scared if I was pregnant again. I will keep you/your baby in my thoughts.

I am also a bleeder and it has also been attributed to my being a redhead. I had one vaginal birth (at 20 weeks gestation) and 2 c-sections. I bled a lot more with the vaginal birth, despite the fact that my baby boy weighed less than a pound. The bleeding was easier to control with the c-sections. I was given pitocin after, but that may just be my doctor's practice with c-section patients.

I will be thinking about you, Yari. I've had lots of bleeding issues in my life but not PPH and I can't even imagine how scary that would have been for you.

*hugs* You'll be in my prayers! Here's hoping your delivery will be a smooth one, Yari!
