Okay...I guess I'm getting on the project life bandwagon..

I have all my templates (page and photo) and Traci's 365Unscripted stuff all in one folder titled "Project Life ****." That's how I keep it organized. :p Since I use different kits for each week I don't worry about that.
 
Oh and I already save my photos by month so all I do is hover over them and the date shows up and I open all of them in the week into one screen. (File>Scripts>Load files into stack)

I bought one, and within a few weeks I was bored of it and using mostly digital supplies. BH now has smaller themed packs, too. There are packs for the different seasons, a boy pack, a girl pack, a school pack, etc. If I were starting now and wanted to mix in some BH PL supplies, I think I'd get a few of those rather than a Core Kit.
 
Gah. You are all making me think I need to try again. I've been a PL failure for the last two years running. Really, I should know when to quit.
 
I don't use the core kits - I am the same as nicole and use all the fun digi supplies - Doing project life is like opening this big vault of papers I haven't used before. Sometimes I think the beauty of project life is being able to use some of the busy patterns I may not typically use in a full 12x12 layout but they look awesome in 3x4 or 6x4 cards. swoon! I prefer not to have rounded corners so I don't use the core kits.
 
I think 4x6s would be tons cheaper than cutting up a 12x12. I often get free 4x6s from shutterfly, just paying for shipping. Or print at Costco or Walmart for super cheap.

Zakirah, I print mine at my local photo printer store (do they have a name?), and they've always turned out great, even without printing them at home.

One thing that I don't think anyone pointed out is - PL doesn't have to be weekly spreads. You can make it whatever you want it to be. You can do just a Halloween album and do a spread for each year your child dresses up for Halloween. Or a vacation album. I have 2 of the smaller 8x8 albums (I think they are that size) all ready to go for our vacations from Northern Minnesota. Or just album about the school years. PL can be anything you want it to be.

I was thinking I would order matte prints (because people recommend it for LOs from PP). But I guess I could just order matte from anywhere?

But then again, I need perfect full-bleed. That's worth the cost to me. I will die if I spend the money on this project, only to end up peeved at the quaility. LOL!

I feel like an informercial for Persnickety, LOL...I've gotten matte prints from a lot of places, but I've been disappointed in the quality of all the local printers I tried. After a few weeks of experimenting when I started PL, I finally gave in and decided to print them all through Persnickety. Even the free prints I got through Shutterfly weren't as good. Of course, everyplace else I tried also cost less than Persnickety. ;) (I think I tried Target [through Shutterfly], Wal-mart, a local camera store, and Shutterfly before deciding I was tired of experimenting.)

I'm in the habit of not putting anything important too close to the edges, but if that's going to bother you then 12x12's are your friend, LOL. Personally, I'm a terrible cutter. Maybe it's because I've never been a paper scrapper, but I'd be much more likely to mess up cutting apart a 12x12 than having bleed problems on a 4x6. If it helps, when I was experimenting I had a few of the 4x6s reprinted at Persnickety, and they cut off noticeably less than several of the other printers I tried.

I wouldn't get a core kit. If you want part of a core kit, there are a bunch of us(me included) that would gladly sell you partial pieces so you have lots of things to play with. Core kits are just SO huge and so repetitive that you don't use them very much, IMO/
 
Yeah, core kits bore me. I have partials of a bunch and hardly ever use them My goal next year is to do more digitally.
 
I've hardly used my core kits since I started doing more hybrid. I still like having them for filler and such, but I'm ready to sell/split them further to reduce my stock. I've only got one kit that I don't want to split more right now of all the ones I bought.
 
I LOVE PP :) :) and it didn't dawn on me to do 12x12 prints and cut them up...cause I bought credits with them last time and I haven't printed anythign yet :) Hopefully they will have BF sale for print credits :)
 
Thanks ladies for the advice & suggestions! I think I'm going to give PL a try next year.

I use iPhoto for photo organization, but it seems like they're more jumbled than organized. However, I love iPhoto's facial recognition feature because it makes it so easy for me to pick photos when I want to scrap about someone specific (not about a particular week or time, like what PL is about).

For digiscrap supplies, I use Sparkbox and I love it because it has a feature where we can search images that has certain colors (e.g. red, green etc).
 
Does anyone have a Pinterest board with PL pages inspirations? I think I'm going to gather some inspirations first before I jump in.

I was printing mine weekly at Walgreens on Sunday nights and going by on Monday mornings on my way to work to pick them up. It's cheap to print each week as you go. Then on Monday nights I just trimmed and put everything in the pockets. Doing it that way allows you to use some real life "stuff" in your pockets. Little notes you might write to our kids (job lists, etc), receipts, packaging from items you use, tickets, etc.

I wish I could just let go and keep it simple so I could keep up. We do so much in one week sometimes and next to nothing other weeks. I never got past week 3 this year because I was so hung up on making my sections look cute so I could share them. If I would have done it simple it would have been done!

I've tried and tried and tried to do PL. Looking at everyone else's spreads and systems makes me desire something like that, and I've started and stopped and felt Scrap Guilt.

I realized that,while that was perfect for other scrappers, a more realistic goal for me was to aim for one small photobook each season of the year, plus a vacation album and an album for any layouts that just didn't "fit" elsewhere for 6 total minibooks... I feel like I'm capturing the memories, and my son is happy to have finished books every 3-4 months to peek through. It's a win for everyone.
