Okay...I guess I'm getting on the project life bandwagon..

starting in January. But help a newbie out. What do I need? Where do I start? What's some good advice?

I've done p365 for 4 years but all the cute PL stuff has convinced me to switch. Help. Point me to a good starting point. :)

Well, you already have all the kits and cards and templates available here, so you are set with that!

For hybrid, you will need a good printer to print your cards with and cardstock or presentation paper. And you will need page protectors. There are lots of styles available for that, but if you are wanting less time consuming, I'd recommend sticking to one or two designs, a lot of people stick with design A.

I think you will love doing Project Life, I know I do! :)

Brian got me an awesome new printer for Christmas last year so I'm good to go there. After I finally gave in I'm all excited to get started :)

what's project life?

Adi, the video on here describes it some. http://www.beckyhiggins.com/
Basically it is a simpler approach to scrapbooking. You keep up with everything by weeks and it is a lot more photo centered and not as much design centered with moderate journaling thrown in.
If you click on the Project Life link in my sig you should get to my pages and it'll give you a better idea.

Also most people I think try to keep their weeks down to one double page spread, mine well... don't. lol

I think the biggest thing to think about is will you print and save things as a full page (so you'd be using a PL style template, but it'd still look like one page) or if you're going to do pocket scrapbooking. If you go that way, then you will need more. You'll have to decide on your layout style (and which company's pockets you like best--there are lots!). You'll also want some alphas to play with, too!

My 2012 pages look like this--all paper:

(I've only posted about 11 weeks on here on my blog, because it takes so long to do photograph and write about it! I'd rather scrap.)

As you can probably guess, that was really time consuming. I still have mid-Oct. - Dec. to finish in that book. I have all the notes and photos; just need to scrap them. I do it when I have time.

But doing 9 months of paper PL helped me know what I wanted when I switched to digital this year. I'm using Becky's Design F pages this year and I'm going to print these off soon and cut them all up, add alphas, stamp dates on them, etc.:

I've been trying to upload more of these pages here in my gallery. I've got 29 weeks uploaded to FB right now. Just made 6 pages in the last 24 hours! I have GOT to catch up. December Daily is coming. LOL!

Hope that helps!

ok, so for those of you that do Hybrid, what do you print other than your pictures? Do you print everything,,,,,just the pictures or do you print the cards and pictures and then add some personal hands on touches like stamping, alphas (thickers), embellishments.....tell me know so I am prepared if I decide to do this!!!!

Traci has most of (all?) her pages (which are hybrid) posted on her blog.

Heather (who used to be a Babe here) also does hybrid and has some posted here, some on Facebook, and some at another site.

I am a part of this PL group on FB which is almost all paper PLers. You could join and then ask them for advice: https://www.facebook.com/groups/504421139581634/

As for advice, planning ahead is the best thing you can do for yourself. Since you are used to P365, you will need to (well, you know what I mean) adjust to not needing to take a picture every day. Take good notes (most people use an app on their smartphone like Momento for iPhone) every day. Decide how you're going to divide your weeks (I do Monday - Sunday, for instance, to keep my weekends together). Stick to just a couple of designs so you don't get overwhelmed with choice, and maybe do a test run/print the week before to see how long it will take you to print your photos and cards and how much ink it will take so you can budget your time and money accordingly.

Good luck! It's a lot of fun.

I'm printing everything, as is. The only cutting I want to do is when I cut the 3x4 cards apart.

so Nicole are you printing a 12x12 page and keeping it as is, or are you cutting the 12x12 page apart and then adding it in to the pockets? I have alot of PL stuff that I ordered a couple of years ago, and I was a paer scrapper for 10+ years, I just wonder how people to it :)

I'm going to be cutting the 12x12 page apart and then adding it in to the pockets. I'm also going to use my date stamp on some blank tags I've added. And puffy stickers to blank cards for the months... so that this page with the blank floral card at the top here:

Will look something more like this February card here:

Nicole's PL is so pretty! All of my pages are on my blog, except the last month or so because I haven't had time to blog! lol

Nicole I can't believe you find time to SEW on them!!!!!! Maybe when life isn't so crazy in my house I can do the extras, but I do want to start simple and just asked my hubby to order me a another set of printer cartridges just so I'll have a back up when I start printer...I don't have a top of the line printer, but it does print to my liking :)

Oh, that's so easy! I just pull out the sewing machine and run them though once I've assembled them. That part takes maybe 2 mins? LOL! It really adds the perfect finishing touch, though. I have to stop myself from "over sewing" on them... HA! :D

Traci and Nicole do you have all your pages in an album and how thick are they? Do you think you will need more than 1 album? I already bought 2 of BH's PL albums just cause I loved the colors.....thinking of going back to get more even if I just put my digital pages in them!!!

I needed two for 2012. I was doing two pages for one week. I think I'll only need one for 2013 because most weeks are just one page (and a handful have two weeks on them).

But we'll see! I'm up to 28 pages for 31 weeks... I might need two after all.

I'm starting to feel like I am the only one with no desire to do PL. I love looking at everyone's spreads, really, they look awesome, but I just don't see myself doing it.

2013 was my first year doing PL. To be honest, I prefer my non-PL pages. But for me PL is a solution to an increasingly out of control, overwhelming "To Scrap" folder. I probably scrap about 100 layouts a year. But with 5 of us in the family, I have so many more photos and stories that I want to scrap than I can fit into that 100 LOs. This year is the first year in a long time that I'll manage to get it all into my album. If I could keep up better doing just regular LOs (or be satisfied with putting the overflow into a photo album that had no journaling or embellishments), I probably wouldn't do PL either. But until something better comes along or life changes and I'm taking fewer photographs, I'll stick with it.

I have been creating mine in 4x6 and 3x4 cards and printing them out to put in the PL protectors. I don't consider this hybrid at all because i don't add anything to them ever.

In 2014, though, I'm hoping to do mine paper using the BH cards, because I want to spend my computer time making layouts and just get my photos & stories in the album for PL without adding being on the computer.

I have so much fun making my cards, though, I may not be able to stick to it. So much amazing stuff available in digital!

You all have such amazing PL pages! I wish I had the time to sit & do that. Hopefully when my little ones are a bit older I'll have more time to do it.

I want to try PL too, but I don't have the right printer for it. I'm thinking of doing everything digitally, then print them out as photobooks. The only thing that is stopping me from starting is I don't know how to organize the photos, cards and materials for PL.

This is how I do mine... You can see examples in my gallery.

And I still take a picture every day too. That way, I know I will have stuff for my pages.

I have a folder on my computer for Project Life supplies, and I have all my filler cards, journaling cards, and page templates in subfolders there. When a kit has 3x4 cards, I often copy them there. I use lots of different kits, so I just keep my PL-focused kits in with my regular kits. For photos, when I copy them to the computer I organize them into weekly folders named with the date and week number. (ex: Sept 2-8 2013, wk 36)

When I was using the pocket pages, I got everything printed as 4x6s at Persnickety (combining 2 3x4s to fill a 4x6). Now I'm doing it all digital, so I'm printing them as 12x12s and putting them in regular page protectors. I chose that rather than a photobook because I'm too impatient to work on a project for a full year before seeing any of it in print, plus this way I can add in non-PL LOs from 2013 that I scrap over the next few years. I tend to only do photobooks for things I work on over a shorter time frame, like a vacation album.
