I really do need to figure this out. So please don't laugh. It would be helpful if we've got any nurses that could help me out, hehe.
Alright, so...I've got 4 little incisions on my tummy and they're all taped up and then have this sticky saran wrap type stuff overtop that's supposed to be waterproof but breathable. The incision on my belly button is covered in gauze and then the sticky patch.
When we left the hospital the nurse told me to "saran wrap" my body before getting in the shower because the patches aren't really waterproof. I ignored her the first night because I was having a really rough night and didn't want anyone to see my belly, but then I worried about the gauze etc, so the next day I got DH to wrap me up. Haha. Good thing I was looking SO dead sexy with my patches and bruises, etc.
Anyhow, it worked to keep my bellybutton dry (btw, the patch on that is coming right off, it's half peeled off now), but well...saran wrap doesn't stick to the skin, right. So I had to roll it down so that it was really tight but the water was getting stuck in the back and I'd have to lift it up to empty the water.
I told my friend this and she laughed...said DUH, you're supposed to tape the saran wrap on with body tape. Well, if that's the case, why didn't the nurse tell me that...I would have gotten some freaking tape. LOL!
OK, so my question is...how do I do this? I don't go back to the doctor to check my dressings until Thursday, and well...I should probably shower again. Yesterday I had nobody to saran wrap me (I was going to ask my friend but I knew she'd just burst out laughing and not help me anyway, lol) so I just leaned over the tub to wash my hair.
I feel sorta stupid for not knowing what to do, lol. I'm not worried about the other incisions more than my belly button one, just because of the gauze - if that gets wet I could get an infection, right? Or is it safe to pull the gauze off (there's still the tape over the incision)?
Anyone?
