OK, Don't Laugh...

I really do need to figure this out. So please don't laugh. It would be helpful if we've got any nurses that could help me out, hehe.

Alright, so...I've got 4 little incisions on my tummy and they're all taped up and then have this sticky saran wrap type stuff overtop that's supposed to be waterproof but breathable. The incision on my belly button is covered in gauze and then the sticky patch.

When we left the hospital the nurse told me to "saran wrap" my body before getting in the shower because the patches aren't really waterproof. I ignored her the first night because I was having a really rough night and didn't want anyone to see my belly, but then I worried about the gauze etc, so the next day I got DH to wrap me up. Haha. Good thing I was looking SO dead sexy with my patches and bruises, etc. ;)

Anyhow, it worked to keep my bellybutton dry (btw, the patch on that is coming right off, it's half peeled off now), but well...saran wrap doesn't stick to the skin, right. So I had to roll it down so that it was really tight but the water was getting stuck in the back and I'd have to lift it up to empty the water.

I told my friend this and she laughed...said DUH, you're supposed to tape the saran wrap on with body tape. Well, if that's the case, why didn't the nurse tell me that...I would have gotten some freaking tape. LOL!

OK, so my question is...how do I do this? I don't go back to the doctor to check my dressings until Thursday, and well...I should probably shower again. Yesterday I had nobody to saran wrap me (I was going to ask my friend but I knew she'd just burst out laughing and not help me anyway, lol) so I just leaned over the tub to wash my hair.

I feel sorta stupid for not knowing what to do, lol. I'm not worried about the other incisions more than my belly button one, just because of the gauze - if that gets wet I could get an infection, right? Or is it safe to pull the gauze off (there's still the tape over the incision)?

Anyone?

well I'd just cuban bath it.....wash the pits and the privates and screw the rest...but I'm kind of weird like that!!! :D

I do know that after my sil c section she was allowed to shower...just not bath...she couldn't soak the the incision but she could get the wet and then just dry them very well...of course I think she had staples not stitches.

But way back in 1997 I had abdominal surgery and I got stitches and I was also allowed to shower...just not take a bath and soak the incision.....I just had to dry it well after I was done!!!!

You could just cut a piece of saran wrap and tape it over that part of your body.

Oh- I wonder if the Glad Press and Seal would work on skin?

I agree with Elizabeth, though I never called that a cuban bath! Wash the stinky parts and your hair and you'll be fine.

Oh, Press & Seal does NOT work on skin. It's tacky yes, but it works by sticking to itself. Trust me, Andrew tried using it to cover my bandages/stitches when I had a mole removed a couple years ago. I told him it wouldn't work, but the engineer in him insisted on trying. LOL!

You should be fine to take a quick shower, as long as the incisions don't stay wet/damp. Take off the gauze after your shower and replace with with a clean, dry dressing and you'll be just fine.

yep! just going to repeat what these ladies have said already... quick bath for those parts... or change the dressing after.

I'm not sure why that nurse didn't tell you that you needed to tape too  sometimes they just forget things.

hahahahahah i'm totally laughing at you!! hahaha! (just kidding lol)

I can't even remember what i did.. I don't remember covering them up. Maybe its why they took so long to heal. LOL!

We always called that a whore's bath! ;o)

I would imagine as long as it's not totally immersed in water and then you dry as soon as you get out, you should be ok. That's what I did with my surgery and mine was laproscopic

why not just do a sponge bath so you do not have to soak evertything with water? Your hair only really needs washing like every two-three days anyhow so you should be good there.
