Nutella

I wonder why the US took so long to get it? Usually Canada doesn't have all the "good" stuff! We've had it here forever - I remember eating it as a little girl...

Mmmmmmmm... You know, I might just have to go buy a jar next time I go to the store!

I had no idea Nutella wasn't common in the US. I grew up eating it and I grew up in West Virginia in the 1970s. Kroger sold it. I think the A&P did as well. Maybe it was a regional thing?

We have had it a lot before kids and just recently my husband bought another jar of it and my kids are GOING nuts over it! Especially my daughter. LOL

I've been getting it for over 30 years! My first time was when I was a teenager staying with friends in Austria, and then had it as part of their breakfast every day on a tray with amazing breads, cheeses, meats, butter and the Nutella! (not all together obviously!). It was served at all the hotels we stayed at over there last year as well! I love it...and it's definitely a special treat here.

Yes, that is a traditional german/austrian breakfast. Boy, do I miss the awesome bread and the meats :(

Ditto that...I was buying Nutella in Houston 20 years ago.

Really? I never tried it until I bought some for Natty about a year ago. I need to buy more, we ran out - she LOVES toast with Nutella.

I just ate the last of my first jar ever, and have no idea what I'll do tomorrow, since I can't get any more (it's Thanksgiving up here for us Canucks tomorrow) with the stores closed. Withdrawl!!!!!! :cursing:

I was talking to a friend today about Nutella and she she told me she sometimes does Nutella ice-cream in her ice cream maker. She told me it's not an ice cream with a strong flavor of Nutella and reminds her of a very popular chocolate Popsicle we have here named "Chicabon".
Well, "Chicabon" is really, really REALLY awesome. It's the most popular chocolate Popsicle ever for 65 years now, so...
She gave me the recipe, I'll try to translate to you guys:
1/3 cup of Nutella
1/3 cup of white sugar
1/2 cup of light whipping cream or heavy cream. (Here we use this "milk cream" with 35% of fat. I think a light whipping cream - with 30-36% of fat - will do the job)
1 cup of whole milk (Here we use UHT milk - that one which can be stored at room temperature for up to 3 months and once is opened, should be put at the fridge immediately - must be some fat in it to do ice cream)

Put everything in a blender for 2/3 minutes. Then put into the ice cream maker for 25'. Then 4 hours on the freezer.
Serves: 2 cups

I had never heard of this, but saw commercials for it recently. I thought it looked ridiculous and was making fun of it, but if everyone thinks its so good, I may need to try it. lol
