Lexapro...

I know there have been threads about anti-depressants, but it's been almost a year, so I thought I would start a new one, in case things have changed for anyone. :)

Today I went to my gynecologist and because of my age, I have to stop taking the BC pill for hormone treatment. The 2 options I was given were hormone replacement therapy or Lexapro. I was a little surprised because Lexapro isn't really for hormones, but because I've had some depression off and on, we decided on that. It's also supposed to help with hot flashes, which I have all the time when not on BCPs. So we are hoping my 2 main problems with menopause can be handled with this.

So can anyone tell me about Lexapro? I'm a little worried about going on it after reading all the side-effects. What were the pros and cons of taking it? I'm also susceptible to bad headaches - does this affect that at all?

I usually am pretty strong and can handle my life, but when the hormones kick in, it's a different story. I have never been on anything like this, nor has anyone in my family. Hopefully it will be temporary.

I have no experience with Lexapro Mary, but wanted to send you good vibes and positive thoughts that it will work for you.

lexapro was a life saver for me for a LONG time. not so much for depression but the anxiety. while i was on it, my migraines were down to about once every couple of months instead of one every couple weeks. there's always sex drive side effects (i think) with any antidepressant.

Thanks Jacinda. :)

Oh, that's good news for migraines! :) And well, menopause pretty much already takes care of the sex drive all on it's own. :p

Getting old is SO. MUCH. FUN.

Mary,

I am on Lexapro and I love love love it. I'd marry it if I could. It has saved my marriage (not kidding) and saved me from a whole lot of issues. :)

I'm so glad to hear that Sara! And that it's done so well for you. I hope I have the same experience. :)
