Is it just me ...

Long story short, a week and a half ago we had to buy a new washer & dryer. I wasn't understanding the instructions for the washer, so I called customer service. They couldn't answer the question that I was reading verbatim from their manual, so they sent a technician out. Okkkkkk. I didn't have to pay $, so whatever. Now, my dryer sheet is getting stuck/jammed by where the lint goes. My worry is that a piece of clothing will be next and it will rip and be ruined. Soooo, I call customer service again. First she tells me that I can't use a dryer sheet in the dryer and I need to use fabric softener in the washing machine. Funny, but the tech told me to NEVER do that. It was the #1 thing that makes a washer smell. We went back & forth on that issue. Finally, I said, I still need the part fixed where it snags. She told me to go out and buy the part and replace it and see if that fixes it first before they send a technician out. ARE.YOU.KIDDING.ME????!!! :cursing: This dryer is a week and a half old and you want me to go buy a part for a NEW dryer! I don't think so.

Is it just me, or is that a little "stupid"?

Breath in and out Heidi ... sigh ...

That happens with our dryer too! But not every time. I was thinking that it was getting g stuck because hubby puts the dryer sheet in first and it says in the manual to do the dryer sheet last. But maybe it's my dryer?

Anyways - what a pain the the butt!! I can't believe the run Round you are getting. Did you buy it from best buy?

That's ridiculous! At least they should send you the part if it's something that you can fix yourself. Between the conflicting answers and the poor service in general, I'd call back and try asking for a supervisor.

Do you have a front loading high efficiency one? That's what we have and it is a pile of poo. It was broken for like two months last year and I couldn't get anyone to come fix it. Drove me totally nuts. And it's been stinking lately, too, but I didn't know that about the fabric softener.

Well I think that's crazy - if it's not working they should come out and fix it. But have you thought about trying a dryer bar? We use one in our dryer and it works just as well as a dryer sheet but since it sticks to the side of the dryer, there would be nothing to get caught.

That is ridiculous. If you've only had it that long, then it is definitely covered by warranty and whether they fix it or you do, it's their responsibility to pay for it!

@ Erin - I will let you know. I would think it wouldn't matter when you put it in. It is an LG model and it is their customer service department that I am talking to, but we bought it at Fry's.

@ Rachel - I have tried to talk to a supervisor both times that I called. There is no supervisor to talk to ... grrrr.

@Marla - yep, it is front loading. The technician almost threw away my fabric softener. He hates it. He said don't ever use it and wipe down the door and rubber front to help keep it from smelling.

@LYnette - I have thought about them, but I haven't seen them fragrance free yet. They look very convenient.

@ Nikki - EXACTLY what I said! Miss you btw.

The Bounce bars come fragrance free! I've seen them at WalMart. (here in Canada anyway. I'd assume it's the same for the States if Canada has them.) They call it Bounce Free.

I am going to have to look again. Last time I looked in Walmart they weren't there ... thank you!!

Ours is a LG too...

Seriously can't believe the customer service you are getting! Wow

I had an LG fridge that was a pile of hooey and I actually made them take it back and replace it with a different brand after it broke twice in the first 3 months I had it. Now I steer clear of LG anything. Sad thing is that I want to buy a new dishwasher and stove and haven't done it just because I don't want to deal with the sales people, the customer service or any thing associated with a major appliance purchase.

Since this is a new purchase, don't back down. Make them do right by you and that means coming out and fixing it or replacing it. Perhaps you should ask for the phone number of their corporate head quarters. I did that in the past with a lap top from HP and my service got a whole lot better pretty darn fast.

And what is with a dryer that smells bad? How can that be better than a regular old non stinky dryer? Doesn't sound like high efficiency to me. ;)

I use dryer balls. They don't do any of the damage dryer sheets or fabric softner do, but you get all the benefits. Plus they are 'green'. :) Sorry you are getting such a run around.

Appliance problems are such a pain :(

I've switched from using liquid fabric softener to using white vinegar and it works great! The clothes come out cleaner and better smelling - I think it's because the vinegar helps to rinse away the final bits of soap. When I'm in the mood for scented laundry, I put a sachet with dried lavender in the dryer and the clothes come out smelling sooooo good!

How much white vinegar do you use per load?

Lorie, The directions I've seen say to add a cup of white vinegar to the final rinse, but I just fill the fabric softener cup when I add the detergent. I'm guessing it's about 1/8 - 1/4 cup of vinegar. Works for me - and it's really easy :)

Oh, and the technician who came out to fix our brand-new washer said that you should never close the door on the HE machines all the way when you're not doing a load of laundry. The machine seals so well that it will get smelly if you don't leave the door open.

I always leave the washer door open after a load to dry out. I love our front loaders

I use the Bounce Free dryer bar so I know they have them in the states. I've gotten mine at Walmart and Kroger

What a pain.... when you buy something BRAND NEW you certainly ought to be satisfied with it. Grrr! I hope you get things straightened out!

Heidi, the clothes smell a bit vinegary when I take them out of the washer, but not after they dry. That's the same experience I've had with using vinegar other places, like in the wet vac. The carpets smell a bit vinegary when I'm first done, but not once they dry.

The only times I've had a problem with static is when I really over dry the load. Otherwise, no static.

I use vinegar too in the washer, and a dryer bar in the dryer. I've not bought regular fabric softener in years now. I use vinegar everywhere, we go through at least a gallon a month because we use it for all our cleaning(windows, floors, carpets, bathrooms, laundry, as an extra rinse in the dishwasher, etc)

I also use white vinegar in the wash all the time! It's great at removing any odors in my DH's sweaty gym clothes or any lingering musty smells from our bath towels. I use about 1/2 cup in our regular top-loader washer... I add it at the beginning of the cycle when I add the detergent, too. That's how I've been told to do it. The smell of vinegar is completely gone at the end of the cycle. :)

I ditched softener for vinegar too. My clothes smell great and are nice and soft! I just add it to the softener spot in the front loader. We have Samsung front loaders that came with the house and they are awesome! I know some people had problems mildew smell, but we've never had anything to complain about. Sounds like LG customer service is crazy!

That is ridiculous.... I'd return the set and see how they like them apples!

I use vinegar allllllll the time on lotsssss of things - cleaning my washing machine, dishwasher, steam cleaner, coffee pot, water dispenser, etc.... love it, does a great job and never ever a problem.

Ok, I am going to have to try vinegar in the wash. I have been using baking soda to try to get the smell out. You ladies have convinced me.

We will see how tomorrow goes. The tech guy is really nice and helpful. BUT, if there is issue, I am going to return it and go back to GE. Sigh ...

:wub::wub:

I think that's insane and the CS person doesn't know her butt from a hole in the wall. If it's only 1.5 weeks old, it is THEIR responsibility to fix it, not yours.
