I'm so mad....

I could spit bullets!!

I have to endure a three day camping (in a $4000 a weekend cabin) with my hubby's family (parents, four siblings, their spouses and kids). Let me just point out to you all that I really DISLIKE these people. So, it turns out that each family had to provide one meal and DH signed us up for breakfast. We have to feed 30+ people.

So, to make it easy on myself, I ordered four dozen croissant rolls from the local bakery. They reduce the price to $3 a dozen when you order over three dozen. I also bought two pounds of shaved ham at the same store for $3.50 and three pounds of cheddar cheese for $5. My idea here was to make ham and cheese croissant rolls that I can throw in the oven and be done with.

So, my MIL called this morning and told me that she bought ten pounds of bacon and ten pounds of pancake mix so that I could make pancakes for everyone. WTH!!!!!!!!!!

Well, I am NOT about to make pancakes for 30+ people and fry all that damn bacon. How many people do you know that will only eat one friggin pancake? Which means that I'll be making at least 70 pancakes. I'll be flipping pancakes at the stupid stove until lunch time!!

I am so ticked off right now that I am tempted to blow this trip off and go see my sister who lives 25 miles from this stupid cabin. Plus, I feel like sending my MIL the receipt for the food I've already paid for (to be picked up on the 25th) which is NON refundable.

I am so ticked off right now that I am tempted to go to the firing range and shoot my new 38 that my dad gave me when he was here visiting last week.

Awww-I'm sorry Paula-InLaw family is a tough thing to deal with especially if you can't stand them already!
Big Hugs girl!

Awww (((hugs))). I'd just kindly tell her you had breakfast already planned out and paid for, so thanks for the offer! :)

I told her that this morning and she said "Well, the family isn't interested in big fancy breakfasts."

What is fancy about ham and cheese croissants?

omg, it's hard enough making pancakes for a family of 4. and cooking all that bacon? (although you could cook bacon in the oven but still it would take awhile)

is she a wee bit on the crazy side?

the ham and cheese croissants sound yummy.

i guess you're lucky that she also didn't buy you 30 lbs of oranges so you could make fresh OJ for everyone!

dang, i think for one meal they could handle "fancy" bwhahahahaa

ROFL Mimi!! To answer your question - my MIL is a LOT on the crazy side, not just a wee bit! ROFL

And I am thankful she didn't buy the oranges for fresh OJ, because she DOES actually drink fresh OJ. LOL

Oh, no she DIDN'T!!!! That would be the end of me going. Let them cook their own damn pancakes and bacon!

mmm i want a croissant now

I'd say, oh you didn't have to help with breakfast duty :) TY for volunteering though

That's exactly what I told my hubby because he's taking HER side on this.
noooo way. i hope he enjoys making pancakes then.

if I had to supply breakfast for that many people it would be, "Hello, everyone, meet Captain Crunch."

okay I have some ideas . . .
1. somehow pancake mix/bacons mysteriously disappear.
2. night before take bacon out of fridge and leave out, hopefully it will get all gross by morning and no one will want to eat it
3. when opening up pancake mix, throw some bugs into it . . . YIKES, the pancake mix is infested!
4. chop up bacon and mix in with pancakes . . . cook together. you know, I don't think that would be all that bad . . . but I don't know if the bacon will cook enough . . .
5. passive aggressive approach . . . BURN all pancakes as you make them.
6. drop bacon on floor. make sure everyone sees.
7. spill pancake batter.
8. passive aggressive approach 2: dump a bunch of salt into pancake batter

OMG Mimi!! LMAO! You are cracking me up!!

Seriously though Paula that is a bunch of bs, and my dh would sooo be getting his butt kicked and making a whole lot of pancakes.

I would point out that there's a great trend that involves eating breakfast in place of LUNCH or dinner! Tell her now that she mentions it, you ARE feeling in the mood for bacon and pancakes and perhaps she could make them for HER meal! :) I'm still mad at my MIL for JUNKING up my damn baby shower!!

Oh wow Paula! That's just nasty...and DH won't support you? He can make the damn pancakes himself then! I think the croissants sound a lot better than pancakes and bacon you can have any ol' time.

do you think MIL is signed up for lunch and was planning on making ham and cheese sandwiches?

No, she's signed up for dinner the first night we are there and listen to this...

... she's bringing friggin KFC!

nooooooooo. bwhahahahahaha.

well she's got some NERVE then!

she AND your DH are seriously seriously NUTS if they think anyone should be cooking pancakes and bacon then. isn't this supposed to be a vacation?

LOL Mimi..you have me crackin up thru this whole thread!
Paula...I so feel your pain girl! I don't deal with hubbys side of the family at all...they are just "grrr!" lol! I would so kick hubbys butt and them take off to the sisters house! lol

Honestly, I'd tell her (and DH) that what you were planning to fix is what they're having for breakfast and if people don't like it, they can fix their own meal. You made an effort and they should respect that.
I had a similar situation with my mother-in-law and I just put my foot down. It is easier said than done, but once done, you'll feel so much better.

i would tell her if she would like to cook pancake & bacon then fine...if not they would get the ham & cheese croissants and if they didn't want them oh well...maybe your hubby plans on cooking...

You know what? Make your croissants. If she wants pancakes & bacon then she should sign up for breakfast! I would adamently refuse, consequences be damned!

And how can she talk for 30+ people?? Maybe 20 of them would LOVE croissants and prefer them over pancakes & bacon. Seriously... cooking THAT much bacon is going to smoke up the cabin & leave that bacon smell for ages. I'm sure the owners of the $4000/weekend cabin would LOVE you for that one!

You've already received great advice, especially Mimi's! But I would def tell her you had already purchased your meal items and she's welcome to make herself some pancakes if she likes. Besides the croissants sound very yummy. I'd take them any day!

Oh man! Deep breath Paula! Since you MIL bought it, she can make it too. I'd let her know that the sandwiches are easier on you than flipping pancakes and bacon over a hot stove. If she doesn't like it, then she can make pancakes herself.

Good luck with that. Family is so overrated!

I'd complain about the fancy KFC. :) Home made fried chicken not good enough for you? :)

I'd be willing to bet everyone would be delighted with the ham & cheese croissants, she's just being pissy because she already spent the money on the bacon & mix and if you don't use it for breakfast what is she going to do with all of it?

I'd be telling my DH to either inform his mom we're making croissants, or he can flip pancakes by himself all morning.

There was no clause that these pancakes and bacon had to be hot or fresh, right?? :)

Have DH pick up ingredients from MIL. Have him make pancakes 'n' bacon at home the night before. Supervise. Eat bonbons. Freeze in handy-dandy aluminum foil. Bring in big cooler to camp.

Serve cold at breakfast with a sugary-sweet smile. Say loudly it was MIL's idea to have bacon-pancake sandwiches.

:p

I'm with Stacey -
So... next time she calls tell her that KFC is just tooo fancy for you and that you have gone ahead and to make it easier on her to please EVERYONE - you have bought a HUGE bag of flour (from Sams Club) some spices and some chickens - (that she needs to cut up!) You can also inform her that you bought 2 20lbs bags of Pot - for her choice - potato salad or Mashed Pot -
I feel for you - I think that if you are feeling that way there has to be at LEAST one other couple having problems dealing with her super controlling self!!!!
I am with mimi - Say NO! I already took care of it, but thank you for your kind suggestion
