I might have to replace my laptop :(

For a while now the screen has been acting funny...whenever I resume my laptop from sleep, or open the lid or when I turn it on, everything appears, then the screen goes black, then everything comes back again, then it goes black again, it does 2-4 times before the screen stays stable so that I can do what I was trying to do. Then a few times in the past few days I'll go away for a minute, like to get a drink or something, and when I come back, the screen is totally black and I can't do anything except do a hard shut down by pressing the button.

I went on the Dell forums tonight and one guy had the same problem (the first one) and he had to get a new video card. The second one I have no idea what needs to be done with that. I e-mailed customer service and if they can't help, I'll probably have to call Tech Support and get something replaced. At least if I have to send the whole thing away I still have my old laptop with everything still installed on it and my EHD full of scrapping stuff.

Man, I hate it when there's a problem with expensive technology! Such an annoyance!

oh stinky
hope it's an easy fix

my screen goes black once in awhile but comes back quickly. i'm in denial about problems . . .

There could be a number of reasons for that to happen. It happened to one of my older laptops and it turned out to be a simple fix. Some laptops have a little switch, that is depressed when the lid is closed. Luckily for me, the switch was just stuck and all I had to do, was get it to unstick. However, if your screen is on and then goes black, it could be that your backlight my be going bad. I have no clue how to handle that one, but I always start with the easiest fix and then work my way up to the not so easy ones. YOu never know, you might get lucky and be able to fix it without too much trouble, :)

oh man! I hope they can take care of it right quick.. I had that happen to my desktop monitor-- lol granted these things are totally different :D :D but it sucked cause my monitor crapped itself LOL and I did NOT have a warranty anymore :D :D get that taken care of girlie!

Well that stinks Jen! But at least its happening early on so they can fix it for free while its under warranty!

Well that sucks, hope its any easy fix...I have been getting the black screen quite often too...hmmm...but its on my desktop?? Whats up with that? LOL
