I have an insane travel itch...

lauren grier

you're like stars
so I'm poking pins into my where I've been map on facebook (yes there are other things I should be doing)... and just day dreaming.. There are so many places I Want to go- -and so many like "standard" places I've never been (lol like.. DC.. why haven't I been there? :D ). I use to travel a lot, before you know.. the whole, having a kid/being married thing :D :D Actually, ce and I have gone on a few trips together (the man wasn't much for going anywhere.. ever- which was seriously confusing to me :D :D ) I think I was spoiled.. growing up till 18/19'ish. We didn't go like to any far off exotic places, but we use to fly stand by (my uncle worked for the air line), so every summer we flew out of this dinky little state. Mostly just to texas, but we went to Hawaii twice. Then of course you know, I went to Ireland sans family.. then came cali.. and anywhere I could drive to within a reasonable amount of time (think.. 7-13 hours) washington came after ce was born-- he and I have gone out there twice...... and now.. now I'm just dyiiiiiiiiiiiing to go somewhere. Anywhere! Everywhere! LOL. I love to travel (actually.. I hate flying, I have a massive panic attack whenever I Do- go figure, I've been flying constantly since I was 2, but I still spazz). I want to show Connor every where in the world... gah.

:D

Sooooooooooo tell me about the best place you were able to travel to, why you loved it.. everything. I want to day dream.. and add a million places to my list. I really want to travel to Japan, but I think for some where like that.. I want connor to be a lot older.. like.. 15- well we may need to adjust that age, I want him to appreciate it, but not be in I hate my mom mode either :D :D

Well La I'd have to say my most fave is Hawaii. I've only been to Maui and would really like to hit the other islands. DH hates flying though, so like you we're confined to somewhere within driving distance.

I did the drive to the Grand Canyons years ago, that was amazing! I never say anything like that before, beautiful and just goes on forever.

Another fave is Iguazu falls on the Brazil-Argentina border. It's 1 of the most beautiul places I ever saw. Sweet fresh water, in the middle of the rainforest. I really need to dig those pics up if I can find them....

I'm waiting for my boss to come back in a couple of weeks. She's doing the Disney cruise in Orlando-Bahamas. One of these days I want to make it there. :)

Well I have not been many places... just California and Puerto Vallarta Mexico. It was off season so I didn't really like Mexico... BUT, my husband on the other hand is really lucky! He went to Europe after we graduated high school! Italy, London, France, cruise of the Greek Isles... amazing right?? I'm so jealous (still)! All I get to do is look at pictures and be jealous.

I wish I could travel more too!

LA's Top Ten Places to Visit Before I Die

(01) Australia & New Zealand
I've always wanted to go here. I added NZ when the LoTR movies came out. I fully admit I would pay to take the LoTR movie sites tour. I also do CT work for a couple Australian designers and know some other Aussie scrappers, so it would be cool to be able to meet up w people I 'knew' there, too.

(02) Prince Edward Island, Canada
Anne of Green Gables & L.M. Montgomery Museum. 'Nuff said.

(03) Big Sur, California
Very very early in our relationship, J. told me he thought Big Sur would be, and I quote, 'a great place to impregnate a wife.' Say it with me: WTH?! *lol* It has now become the unofficial place where we will be honeymooning: temperate weather, beautiful trees/mountains/coastline, Nature-y things.

(04) Hawaii
Duh.

(05) a Mediterranean cruise
I would love to see almost all of the countries on the Mediterranean Sea, but this would be a nice 'intro' course to all things Medi.

(06) Nashville, TN
I've been to Nashville twice now, but never spent more than a day or so there. I love love LOVE everything abt the city: hub of country music, Southern hospitality & friendliness, beautiful setting, FREAKIN' HUB OF COUNTRY MUSIC. Being able to walk into any bar there at almost any time of day and catch a live show rocks my face off. Cheesy, I know, but my heart feels like it's at home there.

(07) Ireland
Not sure what the percentage is, but I'm 'a lot' Irish. I would love to go visit an Irish castle and revel in all that green.

(08) Israel/a Biblical archeology tour
I think I am too scared to actually do this since I'd rather have my body parts not blown to smithereens, but I would so enjoy walking, sleeping, seeing all the places Jesus did all those years ago.

(09) Tuscany
Have you ever seen 'Under the Tuscan Sun?' I WANT THAT.

(10) Yucatan Peninsula or Costa Rica
Either the Mayan ruins or some place jungle-y and lush would be rad, man.

*lol* And now you know!!

I am a west coast girl who 2 1/2 years ago got transplanted to the east coast thanks to DH being in the military. I have to say, I love it here. We are in Maryland about 1 hour from DC. I actually live on the border of Virginia and West Virginia so we go there alot. We have had the opportunity to go into DC a few times, with more actually planned in the next couple of weeks. We have also been down to Norfolk, Virginia, up to PA, I love Gettysburg. We like heading the 8 miles to Harper's Ferry, West Virginia. This area is so historical and so many things to see and do. I am now hoping DH wants to settle down here. So if you ever want to see DC you have a place here to stay if you guys need.

I do love the east coast... It's really hard for me to imagine living anywhere else (though I would move to WA in a heart beat :) ) I've actually never been to Maryland either.. :D. I HAVE been to virginia though (must have just skipped a few states in btwn :D :D ) Maybe one day I'll come bug ya Melissa :D

(07) Ireland
Not sure what the percentage is, but I'm 'a lot' Irish. I would love to go visit an Irish castle and revel in all that green.

I can not even tell you just HOW gorgeous it is out there.. I hope you get to go. I really want to go back. I was *dying* to go to county cork (where my family is from) but we skipped right over it:sleep: LOL I actually can't even remember all the places we went, it was one whirlwind of a trip.. But really....... you should move ireland to #1 ;)

I saw the grand canyon, for the first time last year-- flying over it :D It was breathtaking from the air... It's on my "Standard must go see" list :D :D

ps I love loved maui-- even though I Was a grump teen when we went. The black sand beaches are *aaaaaaaaaaamazing*

**La is insanely jealous of your hubby too**

Ive been just about everywhere in Florida and Roswell New Mexico. I was born there when my dad was in the air force. Although I dont remember it much there. I know we went other places when I was younger in that area and drove to Florida from New Mexico but heck I have been in Orlando since I was a little girl. I so want to travel. I would like to move to say Tennessee or West VIrginia...somewhere where in the mountains or heck even someplace like Montana or Colorado. I love being surrounded by the woods where you can go hiking for hours and not run into civilization. Then I want to go to Hawaii and Australia. England and Ireland. Pretty much everywhere LOL

ooh yes.. Australia too... I want to see a wild emu :D :D LOL Lisa on my team has told us how mean they are though LOL...

hahaha just for giggles.. I punched in RI to Japan on travelocity-- including hotel (apparently I can't rent a car :D )....

grand total of $4,921.86 (LOL I said we were staying for 22 days)- and that was the cheapest hotel, with only 1 bed (granted.. ce is 4.. but if we wait till he's 15, I am not sharing a bed with him :D :D )

Well my #1 dreamy trip is an African safari holiday!!! That would be sooo awesome. I would also love to go to the Northern Territory and go for a camel ride in the dessert :) hehehe.

I *love* Europe!!! LOVE IT!! I have been through Italy, Frace, Belgium, Switzerland and Germany and could go back to each a billion times over.

Germany was by far my favourite place. Munich first, closely followed by Berlin. We were there for Oktoberfest last year and it was fantastic! Take Ce when he's 16.. I learnt that 16 is the legal age for beer, but they have to be 18 to drink spirits :D We are planning another European trip for early next year...Just going to Northern Italy, Southern Germany, and Vienna this time around :) I think I love Europe because it is sooo different from Australia. Ireland and Scotland are up on my list as well.

New Zealand was awesome. I loved it :) I really want to go back there. We hired a car and drove around both islands... although I did enjoy the South island just a teeny bit more than the North :D If you ever come to Australia, you have to come to Sydney so we can meet up

apparently... australia is way more expensive than japan :D :D I only did 7 days and it's $4,329.06 -- though we did get 2 single beds instead of one there :D :D If we get to go to australia though you KNOW I am coming to see you :D :D

ooh yes.. Australia too... I want to see a wild emu :D :D LOL Lisa on my team has told us how mean they are though LOL...

Yeah... and that was a captive emu that was allowed to roam free throughout the enclosure and should have been used to humans... I wouldnt get within 100 meters of a real wild emu!! LOL I am scared of the things.. they always peck me! Even the baby ones in the baby petting zoos hate me!

LOL if you come visit me, you can even stay at our place.. as long as you dont mind sharin a house with the dogs :p Hotel accomodation in Sydney is ridiculously expensive. Unless you go to wotif.com and get it on the cheap. Or stay at backpackers places.

Its fun traveling FROM australia to Europe cos you make up time!! hahaha I remember we left Sydney on a Friday afternoon at 5:00pm, were up in the air for 22 hours and landed in Italy on Saturday morning at 4:00am or something equally freaky!!!

ROME is my favorite place I have been. If I didn't have kids and a husband I would move every year. I really want to visit Paris and London soon!

We have been so blessed to have traveled A LOT! There are only a few states in the US I haven't visited and before we had babies, we were able to vacation in Tahiti as well as Maui, Florida and all spots in between. Now, living in Germany, we've had the amazing oportunity to see a lot of Europe. We've been to cities in France, Germany, Belgium, Austria, Italy, England, Switzerland, Holland and Spain. DH has been to Africa a few times on missions. My dream is to before we leave here is to visit Greece, take a Medateranian cruise, see Ireland and Egypt.

I've never been to Australia or Asia... so those are next on my lisst. lol

My cousin lives in Scotland, and when Benjamin was 8 months old, we all went to her wedding. It was so stunning, I wish Benjamin had been older so we could have done more stuff, but Tony and I plan to go back. It is actually on our list for our trip for next year, it's our 10 year anniversary and we are going somewhere ALONE for a week LOL.

I've also always wanted to see Australia, and we've been wanting to do the Europe tour, but we're waiting til the kids get older for that.

La, if you come visit me, you'll have a free place to stay and we can show you around Germany... and prolly France (DH speaks fluent French). Maybe we could even do a few days in London (my fave city so far) and Rome (my 2nd fave). We could even take Ce to Disneyland Paris! How fun would that be?

Captiva Island, Florida - my husband's grandmother bought a house there in the 1960s, lived there her whole life until she sold it for nearly a million dollars in 1994. beautiful island - noted to have the best shells! just so peaceful and tranquil.

My dream is to go to Pompeii, Italy and also Greece. I will make it there one day soon. Also, I want to do a cruise to the Bahamas. I don't want to do anything but lay on the beach with a good few good books and a frozen drink in my hand.

I want to go to Europe...I don't want to go anywhere beacy, or jungle-y...just cities...Europe is where I want to go...

If I could LIVE anywhere, I would be moving to NYC. DW and I had talked about moving there b4 kids, but it never happened.

La, bring Ce up here to Boston. We can walk the Freedom Trail, and take a Duck Tour, and go to Cheers...

I have been all over the U.S. Okay that sounds bad LOL But my freshman year in highschool going into my sophomore year (summer vacation) my aunt was a nature photographer and offered to take me around the country with her. I honestly didnt appreciate it much because I was a 15 year old and the majority of the trip was camping out but we got to go to some really cool places. I met a lot of nice people and got to go white water rafting and in a hot air balloon ride. We made it from Connecticut to California (we drove, seriously it was crazy lol) But of course we stopped off in a bunch of states and what not, I think the most interesting on the way was New Mexico. It was gorgeous but some weird looking bugs. I got home sick in California and ended up flying home but they went on to Canada and some other places. Anyhow Im rambling. If I could choose ANYWHERE it would be Ireland. My mother in law goes there every 5 years or so because she has family there and I would totally deal with my inlaws for a trip like that LOL. They also go to St Martin a lot because my father in law has family there. I would love to go there too!!

I'd want to go to Europe, Hawaii, Alaska, Boston. Not into idea of many hours on airplane though.

LuAnn, Jordan proposed to me at sunset on Captiva Island! That's too funny :p

I've been to Hawaii - Kauai. It's......incredible. I can definitely picture myself living there. It's so relaxed and laid back, and the beaches are amazing, and the weather is really nice....::sigh:: :) Love Kauai.

2 years ago we went to Cabo San Lucas, Mexico and that was awesome too. Definitely want to go back. Although Puerto Vaillarta or Cancun are appealing too, lol.

In the US I've been to Colorado (LOVED it, I love mountains and snowboarding almost as much as beaches and the oceans), FL lots of times, Texas (which I really do like), and most of the eastern seaboard. :) I really want to go to like, Hilton Head or the Outer Banks one of these days. Jordan has been, but I never have.

Internationally, I want to go everywhere :) We were supposed to take a big family trip to Ireland (grandfather was born there - I wanna say County Cork, La, but I just can't remember, makes me a little sad that I didn't pay closer attention to his stories when I was a kid) but it didn't pan out. We will eventually, but who knows when.

We're hoping to take 2 weeks next year and do New Zealand and Australia for our honeymoon (we're all about traveling before we have kids and it's super difficult). And LA I'm totally going on the LotR tour, lol. We want to get our scuba certs so we can dive the great barrier reef :)

I want to go to Rome and Venice and just wander around Italy for a month. Paris....Amsterdam....Prague....London...... I could go on for days, lol. I want to go to India and China, the rainforests of South America. Honestly, I wouldn't turn down a trip ANYWHERE, lol. I LOVE traveling :)

Umm...the most exotic place I've been is Nashville, Tennessee. Seriously, I have never been out of the USA and it really hocks me off! LOL

Thought of one other place I would LOVE to go...Alaska!! I just love being out in nature and photography and I am a member of a photography site and wow you just would not believe the nature shots I see on that site!! One guy took a picture of a mother bear nursing her baby. She is sitting there on the side of a hill holding the baby kinda like a person would hold a baby when nursing. I got to thinking about it and here is what I would like to see:

Beaches of Hawaii and Australia-sunsets on those beaches-great barrier reef-pearl harbor monument

castles in England and ireland and since my family is part Irish well that is a bonus:-)

wildlife/wilderness in Alaska

yellowstone national park

statue of liberty

national monuments in around washington DC

Mount Rushmore

Grand Canyon

Arlington Cemetary

OK then Id like to head down to Lousiana and Texas even though Ive been to Texas as a kid I do not have any memories of this

Id love to see a panda bear in the wild and a polar bear (from a distance of course LOL)

Oh gosh there are just so many places I would like to go to. One major problem is I have a HUGE fear of flying. Seriously would have to be sedated just to get me on a plane LOL. So unless I get over that (oh and hit the lottery) I know I probably wont get to go to some of these

My most favorite places I've visited have been:

--Alaska (which is seriously so far THE most beautiful place I've ever been...the majesty of nature is just overwhelming there)

--Yellowstone (it is as fabulous as everyone says)

--Italy (beautiful, full of history and the arts and delicious food)

--St. Lucia (gorgeous landscape and beaches, friendly people, lots of opportunity for relaxing and water sports)

Oh this thread has me daydreaming....ahhh. So many places I've yet to visit that I'd love to. Practically everywhere in Europe, Australia and New Zealand, Brazil, Egypt, Israel, sooo many places.

My dream vacation spots are on my blog, linked on the sidebar.

I haven't been anywhere outside of the US. But Ive been just about everywhere from Washington State to Washington DC.
My hubby on the other hand (he's Navy) has been to Thailand, Hong Kong, Singapore, Hawaii, Australia, Greece, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Guam....etc etc.

My 2 favorite places I have traveled have been:

1. Bali. It is such an amazingly gorgeous island and with an incredibly fascinating culture -- after hitting the perfect beaches, you can visit these stunning temples (kind of a mix of Hindu and Buddhist), or watch the religious processions and ceremonies that seem to happen every day. It's amazing. The people are so, so nice and welcoming too. They really incorporate art into everyday life, so everywhere you look there are intricate carvings and little bits of art. I would live there if I could.

2. London, which is pretty much the exact opposite of Bali! But I love history and London's history is SO COOL and deep, and rich. The cathedrals and castles, pubs and markets. I also love that it's "accessible" -- it's not so different from where we live, so it's relatively easy to travel there. I've been to a bunch of European cities and the stress level is always higher traveling to places like Rome and Paris.

OH, LA!! dreaming of travel is all i do!!!
.
.
.

i've been to about 30 states to visit and while american history is really cool, i didn't get that when i was younger so there is so much i'd love to do here! i do remember colonial williamsburg and coronado island...have to go to coronado! in my adult years i've been to alaska (gorgeous, but not my favorite), been to hawaii (so fun, i've just decided the beach is not my thing...completely beautiful though), NYC was rockin! (love the nitty gritty of the city and discovering stuff!). my best trip so far though was to spain when i was 17! the culture is rich, the language is beautiful and the clubs were open till 4am! lol! no, really i strongly recommend spain sometime in your life. africa was amazing too, but in a way that i appreciate my life so much more now! my next far off destination, will be ireland prob sometime next year. my whole family will be going, my parents went when we were smaller so i am stoked to go. we all love it so much that before our move here to colorado, we were seriously considering moving to ireland!
