Help Me Pick A Book...

Sooo...I've got WAY too many books here and I have to pick a book to read after I finish the one I'm reading now (Glass by Ellen Hopkins - a sequel to Crank, about a young girl who gets addicted to meth...it's written in free verse and is AMAZING - based on the author's daughter).

Anyhow...here's the list of books I currently have sitting on my desk (and around my desk...and in my bedroom...etc, lol):

The Constant Gardener (John le Carre)
Snow Falling On Cedars (David Guterson)
The Memory Keeper's Daughter (Kim Edwards)
Tales From The Bed: A Memoir (Jenifer Estess)
Last Lullaby (Denise Hamilton)
Middlesex (Jeffrey Eugenides)
The Echo Maker (Richard Powers)
The Book Thief (Marcus Zusak)
The Nanny Diaries (Emma McLaughlin)
Sea Glass (Anita Shreve)
Cut (Patricia McCormick)
Atonement (Ian McEwan)
Diary (Chuck Palahniuk)
The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette (Carolly Erickson)
Prep (Curtis Sittenfield)
The Fifth Vial (Michael Palmer)
The Last Town On Earth (Thomas Mullens)
Night (Elie Wiesel)
The Kite Runner (Khaled Hosseini)
Choke (Chuck Palahniuk)

Told ya I had a lot of books. :P I think I'm missing a couple, too. If you want to see what each book is about, you can see them on my shelf here: http://www.goodreads.com/review/list/276988?shelf=on-my-nightstand

So have you read any of these? Help me decide what to read next...

Also...if you like to read, you should come join me over at GoodReads...it's a social networking site where you can review books, add books to your "toead" list, and read others reviews. It's GREAT! If you join, add me as your friend... http://www.goodreads.com/user/show/276988

OK, I've read Night (AMAZING!), The Kite Runner (LOVED IT!) and The Memory Keeper's Daughter (a must read, but not my absolute favorite). So there are my votes:)

Wish I could help! I haven't even heard of any of these! I'm a bit behind, I am on book 5 of Harry Potter! :)

Memory Keepers Daughter was great. And so is Nanny Diaries. But for very different reasons. :)
I know you have a TON of books on your shelf, but if you are ever looking for a really amazing author who's books never disappoint, Jodi Picoult is amazing. My favorite of her's so far is My Sister's Keeper. But Nineteen Minutes was amazing as was Perfect Match. Actually, they're all amazing. :)

Have you read A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini? I read it for bookclub in January and LOVED it...I already had The Kite Runner here but haven't had a chance to read it because all the books I request from the library keep showing up in bunches, lol...

Yes, I LOOOOOVE Jodi Picoult! My Sister's Keeper was the first book of hers I read, just before Mason was diagnosed, actually...it's got a BIG place in my heart. I also read Nineteen Minutes and Plain Truth - both were excellent. I've got a whole bunch of hers on my wishlist, too...I just can't seem to get my hands on them through BookMooch! LOL!

I love Jodi Picoult! I read My Sister's Keeper and I'm waiting for her newest one at the library.

I read Kite Runner for a book club and I've been on the wait list at the library for A Thousand Splendid Suns for like 6 months and it's coming in this week. Yea!

I'd love to read more, but never seem to make enough time for it. Right now I'm reading a book on the Psychology of music, very slowly. I have read the Memory Keeper's Daughter and Night, and liked both. But Night is just so hauntingly moving - I read it in college and 20 years later I still remember it. It's one of those books that will affect you. So that's my top recommendation.

The new one that was JUST released (Change Of Heart) is a sequel of sorts to Keeping Faith. I was going to read it, but changed my mind once I read that...because in Keeping Faith, the little girl develops stigmata (the holes through her hands like Jesus). That stuff freaks me out! LOL!

I have to say that I read James Patterson almost all the time but I will read some Dean Koontz and Nelson DeMille ( The General's Daughter) so I have not read any of the books you listed but I did hear that The Nanny Diaries was really good and also The Kite Runner. I am going to keep your list though and try and branch out a bit, I can't read James Patterson forever!!!!!!

Yes, I love all three of those authors as well! I am trying to catch up on the Alex Cross series by James Patterson...I'm up to The Big Bad Wolf I think. I've read his other new novels, not in that series...The Husband, The Quickie, and The Good Guy. I read Dean Koontz's newest novel (The Longest Night Of The Year) but was creeped out by it - for him it's on/off on whether I'll like it or not, depending on the creepy factor. LOL!

Oooh! I didn't know that. Now I'm a little freaked out too! I'll have to re-evaluate that choice now. Thanks for the heads up.

Have you read The Other Boleyn Girl? Just read all 650 pages in 2 1/2 days it was that good. Plus, I have to plug the Twilight Series by Stephenie Meyer because I'm totally addicted!

It's on order from the library. I wanted to read that series of books in chronological order of each of Henry's wives...I JUST finished The Constant Princess, and ordered The Other Boleyn Girl from the library. I think I'm #100 on the list? It'll be a while before it comes in, lol.

I've also ordered Sophie Kinsella's newest book (JUST released...so I preequested it before the libraries had it in stock) "Remember Me?"...it should be here any day now. :)

OOHHHHHHH, Big Bad Wolf was good!!!! Have you read the Womens Murder Club, or the Lake House/Beach House (the one about the girl with wings)? Those are really good too!!!!!I am all caught up on the Alex Cross Series and anxiously awaiting for his latest to come out in paperback!!!! I read most of his books in 1-2 days. I have almost ALL of his books(not any newer ones) so if you are interested, let me know and I could mail them to you ( I really will do that too!!!) I have only read one Koontz book (can't remember the name) but my Aunt just gave me "From the Corner of His Eye". Have not started it yet but I am thinking about it!!!!

I did start reading The Women's Murder Club series, and was SO excited for the show on TV, but never got into it. I think I only got about 3 books into the series before I got into the habit of not reading (I used to read TONS, and then for a while I didn't read at all - for nearly 2 years...now I'm back to reading because it helps me fall asleep at night). Once I catch up on the Alex Cross series, I'm going to try to catch up on that series. And I haven't read any of this collab stories - yet. He's a hard one to keep up with, he publishes so many in a year!

Maybe we'll have to do a trade - I've got a couple Dean Koontz books here that I'm willing to part with... :)

I am going to read this one this week so I will let you know about the trade thing, I will ship those Patterson books to you though. After I put my Niece to bed I will make a list of what I have and sent it to you.

The Memory Keeper's Daughter (Kim Edwards)-They are making a movie of this
Atonement (Ian McEwan)--WAY better than the movie :)
The Nanny Diaries (Emma McLaughlin)-also better than the movie :)

I wanna read The Kite Runner..i haven't read that one yet

Christine, how far are you w/ the Alex Cross books? I finished the newest one not too long ago. SO good. I have some laying around, so tell me what you have and if I have ones you don't, I'll ship em out. :)

Sweet, I am going to make my list now......thanks a bunch!!!!

I used to devour fiction like crazy, but just can't seem to find the time for much reading these days. My limited reading time is usually non-fiction in books and magazines in snippets here and there. I am a Harry Potter nut, I must admit, and have read all of the HP books at least twice. I'm so tired at night, but must read something as I fall asleep (old habits die hard!) so often I'm reeading a favourite book, because I can get a bit of reading in, but if I don't really remember much of what I've read due to the constant nodding off factor, it's not a big deal, lol.

So, I'm not much help really, but if I had to pick one of those books at a glance, I'd probably grab The Hidden Diary of Marie Antoinette (Carolly Erickson, since I'm a sucker for books like that.

I'm obsessed wtih PAtterson. Especially the Alex Cross series. I was SO worried that Cross was going to be the last in the series, thank goodness it's not.

I've got a Barnes and Noble coupon burning a hole in my pocket, lol. I think he's got out another one in the Women's Murder Club series (which I also love, I love the strong powerful women element to it) that I need to get. I've fallen behind a little in his collab books, and I didn't read the last Maximum Ride one either. There was something about the second one that just made me not want to read anymore with those characters. I don't know what though.

Oh I also really like Michael Connelly, and if Tom Clancy doesn't put out something new soon I'm gonna get really ticked off, lol. Oh and I love Clive Cussler. And Tess Gerritson has some good ones....and Sandra Brown.....I could go on but I'll stop. :D

wow - what an awesome list.....I'm a total James Patterson fanatic too - haven't picked up the latest yet, but have read everything else (and me too - usually in 1-2 days...can't put them down). I can't get into those winged children though - read the first one just because I wanted to finish what I started. I'm soooo afraid that the next book will be the last Alex Cross - he's mentioned that it will be over soon! I also watch the Women's Murder Club - but have a hard time accepting Angie Harmon as Lindsey Boxer - anyone else?

Do you watch Dexter (showtime/abc)? I've read the first two books that the series was based off of and this is the rare instance that I actually like the show better than the books, but still a good read.

Do you see a serial killer pattern, here? YIKES!

BTW - I love the Nanny Diaries and The Devil Wears Prada - both were better than the movies, I thought!

Great topic, Bree!

Wish I read any of those....I don't read really.

BUT! I am reading Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follett. I'm a slow ready and started 2 days ago (and really when I go home I scrap, don't read...so this is progress) and I'm at page 40 and really like it. Only 950 pages to go!

Leslie I'm a total murder mystery junkie. I just embrace it ;)

I LOVE the Dexter tv show, but I've never read any of the books.

I was just on a website and the next Alex Cross comes out in November, it's called "Cross Country". And book 7 of the Women's Murder Club is out now, so I'll have to go pick that up. 7th Heaven.

I know a lot of ppl have had trouble with the casting for the tv series. But since the actual episodes aren't based on the books, it doesn't bother me so much.

I don't know that I can wait until November for Alex....

I haven't read the 7th either, keep meaning to pick it up - I usually buy them the day they come out because i read them so fast and then have to wait so long for the new ones:)

Another HUGE James Patterson fan here! The Alex Cross ones are my fav, but I've also read all of the Women's Murder Club ones too (and the show's good as well).

I'm reading Kite Runner right now - WAY outside my box, but I love it!!

Next on my list is The Secret Lives of Bees and then onto another one of my favorites - Sophie Kinsella's Remember Me.

If you haven't read the Shopaholic series - it is a MUST!! Even if it's not something you would normalling pick (it wasn't for me), but they are hilarious!!!

Harry Potter is great too - another series I wouldn't have picked on my own.

I like James Patterson because I know that no matter what he writes, I'm gonna love it. However, I am really starting to pick books that I wouldn't usually. I've had good luck so far.

Oh and speaking of which...I have some that I would be totally willing to pass along if someone is interested!!

And DEXTER....love, love, love it!!!!!

You girls all rock! :)

Col, you're like my book sister. LOL I *heart* Michael Connelly, and if he doesn't release something soon I may cry. LOL

Also love Tess Gerritsen, Patricia Cornwell...... um.. the woman who does the alphabet books.. why can I not think of her name... grrr.... also Janet Evanovich.. love her.

Christine, I'll look over what I have laying around. :)

Me neither but I just keep thinking it will be worth the wait!!!!!

I really like the series too, I hope it comes back on soon though!!!!!

LOL Sara! Book sister :)

Is it Sandra Brown that does the Alhpabet books.....like R is for Ricochet?
Nope it's Sue Grafton. I haven't gotten into her.

I LOVE Janet Evanovich. I read all of her books straight through 2 summer ago. I'm dying for 13 to come out! Is it out yet? or soon? Sometimes I miss these things, lol. Jordan thinks I'm insane cuz I would read them in the car and literally laugh out loud at what was going on in them.
