Has anyone worked on their resume lately?

I need to find a kick-arse resume template (or make one).

What's "in" right now? Last time I job-hunted the big thing was the thick black header with your name in white letters...

I just did mine last month - and I'll know by this weekend if I get the job or not - and I have my name left justified, bold with an underline across the page under my name. Then on a single line underneath is my address and phone number. I can e-mail it to you if you want to use it for a sample. Just PM me your e-mail addy... :)

Resume? What's that??? LOL I think I am done working in the professional world so I won't be updating mine anytime soon. Last time was in 2005 when I got married and was looking for a teaching job up here (I taught for 9 years before getting married and relocating). I know my name was bold and centered...with address,phone/email underneath....don't have a clue how it is suppose to be now!

Deanna,
You are so creative. I love your layouts! Are your looking for a creative type job? Are you submitting a paper resume, or one on line? On-line resume submission can really drain all the life out of a resume, but if you are sending a paper resume, you can use your talent to really rock it. It can be subtle, like adding a paper background and fading it out a bit. Or you can use about an inch area on the left to anchor resume titles, like education, work history, etc... and place background in that section. If it is a more traditional job, and using layout papers is not comfortable to you, select a good quality paper, try to find one with a watermark in it, in a color other than white. This will help your resume stand out a bit.
I hope this helps.. good luck on your job hunting!

I updated mine, but didn't use a template. When I applied for (and subsequently got) my current job, I got tons of compliments on it. What type of job are you looking for? I'm interviewing people right now and nothing turns me off more than people trying to elongate their resumes to multiple pages with a lack of content. I even saw someone duoble space it. In terms of the actual design of the resume, I think most hiring managers focus more on he candidate's professional accomplishments (unless you're going into design, lol). Good luck with your job hunting, how exciting!
