Are you a Thread Killer? Let the Game Begin!

Marla, glad you loved the series! It's on my list for this winter, along with Game of Thrones and The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo...I'm a series person, I hate stand alone books, because I love getting to connect further with 'my' characters as I read the series, lol!

Me too... except now I'm like mourning their loss. I didn't want it to end. Can I just say that it was a million trillion times better than Twilight? Because it was.

twilight...love the books, hate the movies. I've actually only seen the first movie. I usually hate book movies. I try to always read the book before the movie, lol

I'm home alone for the next 3 -4 days while my grandma is in hospital - at the moment she will have been out of theatre for about 2 hours

So I just finished Mockingjay. I started the series on Thursday night... so I averaged about a book a day. Lol. Anyway, I totally loved the series. For real. Even the last one... Of course, I'm always sad when a series ends. I want another book to read. Lol.

That was a cool series! It stressed me out in the last book, but I give Suzanne Collins snaps for how creative she is! I basically wrote a thesis/review on each of the three books on my goodreads. Are you on there? Kate (miss libraian chick) are you on there? Donna, Jen? We all need to hook up on goodreads!

We TOTALLY need to hookup on Goodreads! This is me right here. I find that I can't write reviews. I think way to hard about them and then they turn into more like homework LOL. Too many years of writing 10+ page papers! I love to read reviews, though.

So glad you enjoyed the series, Marla! I ADORE series! And I used to be ashamed that I enjoyed fantasy, but then I thought, you know what, those people that have nothing better than to judge what I read in my free time can bite me. I'll read whatever I damn well want! (hmph. I feel strongly about this LOL) So yes, I enjoy epic fantasy very much. Jen, if you plan on reading the Game of Thrones series, you'll need more than just the winter, I'm telling you now!

See, I'm not usually big of fantasy... I'm more of a historical fiction type girl. My favorite book ever is Gone With the Wind followed probably by the Harry Potter series...

I do think that the Hunger Games kinda stressed me out for the last few days. I've slept terribly and keep finding myself thinking about them.

I love historical fiction, too. That's the awesome thing about being a book lover, you can like two things that are total opposites!

I've SO done that with books, Marla! I'll get so wrapped up in them that I think of them constantly and dream about them. When you read a book, you really are IN it, you know?

I'll read almost anything. I prefer historical fictions, but science fiction is another big favorite. My good reads is sadly not updated, I need to get it updated again, lol.

I officially have a cold. blech. Creeping crud and everything.

Hey girls! Been a crazy day today! I had just pulled up this thread at 1:00 while I ate lunch, & then my cute hubby showed up at home for lunch (rare) so we ate together (fun!) and then went and voted and I had other errands. (It was like a little date, haha!)

With reading, I love historical fiction, young adult, etc. I'm pretty open to what I read, but I don't like books I read to be too serious or too violent. That tends to stress me out, therefore, defeating my purpose in reading. I loved The Guernsy Litereary and Potato Peel Pie Society, and The Forgotten Garden by Kate Morton but then I didn't love the Stephanie Plum series and couldn't even make it throught the entire first book, which is a big deal for me, since I basically can't handle not knowing how something ends. It practically kills me to not know how a book ends, lol!

I espeically can't read any of Jodi Picoult books (although I think she's so talented) I tried reading My Sister's Keeper and it was too much like my own life with my speical needs son, who is 14. I can't read any books like that, I intentionally skipped the Memory Keeper's Daughter (I think that's the one with twins born, but one was down syndrome and the hubby told the wife the special needs baby died, but really he didn't want to deal with a special needs child and passed it off onto a servant to raise secretly - yeah, I can't handle those types of books at all).

I read to be entertained and to learn. :) I tend to really empathize with the characters, that's why I can't read horrible violence, etc., it gets to me and makes my tender heart bleed, ya know? So you may see some things ::most :: people love that maybe I didn't on my goodreads. That said, feel free to add me, here is my goodreads profile.

I watched the movie for My Sister's Keeper and seriously bawled for two streight hours. It was constant and I had a horrible headache at the end. So depressing.

I don't have a goodreads account. I will look into one though. I'm always looking for book recommendations.

Glad to know I'm not the only one, lol! (on My Sister's Keeper)

You would love it, Marla! I think you totally should sign up for a goodreads! (and it's free). It helps me remember what I've read and what I want to read. It's awesome! :) If you do sign up, add us! :)

I adore Jodi Picoult. She's one of the only "bestseller" authors that I read. I love how she makes you think of a situation from a standpoint that you'd never dream of. Those kinds of books make me think, but I TOTALLY get how some ppl can't read them. I often will sit and bawl for hours over a book. My DH doesn't get that. He says he can see crying at a movie, but a book. I tell him that a book is actually MORE REAL for me than a movie. When you read, you BECOME those characters. That's what reading is all about, the characters.

I could talk books all day. Love that we're a group of readers, too! I love Goodreads! If I didn't keep track of all the book I read, I'd end up reeading stuff and not realize I had already read it until I was halfway through (yes, I've done that before). Plus, I just love to look at the hundreds of books I've read and think about what I was doing when I was reading those books.

I could talk about books all day, too! Everyone has their likes and dislikes, and I fully respect all people's opinions. Your profile pic is really cute that you have on goodreads, Kate. There's more red in your hair then I realized - it's really pretty. :)

*sigh* I am locked out of my goodreads account. must start over. it's been that long since i used it

I am so stinking bad about forgetting my passwords and user names that I downloaded an app for my iphone. I just have to remember the password to the app and it stores all my other stuff. Saves my life on a daily basis.

yeah, I signed up for goodreads with an email account I no longer have, and I can't remember the password anyway. I just started up a new one, using my main account rather than a spam mail account.

Marla, what ap is that? It sounds like something I really need!

Jen, once you're setup on goodreads add us! :)

Andrea, it's called mSecure. It was like $5.00 but it encrypts your passwords and supposedly is super safe. It's saved me so much already.

Love that you ladies are on Goodreads now! I love the "Compare Books" feature where we can see what each other has read and see how much our tastes are the same. Very interesting stuff!

Kate, I am very sorry for your loss . . ahh, pets!! The little critters wander through our lives and leave little pawprints on our hearts . . :(

I've been having dramas with my internet at home, right now I'm sitting in a shopping centre downloading kits at twice the speed of my home internet!! LOVE IT! And too cranky with home one cos it's already used up tries at a kit so now I have to hassle the shop (which I so hate to do) I know they dont mind but MEH!

I havent read a book for AGES - I used to love reading, always have, but never get around to going to library or buying new books . . usually reead old faves if I get time, like Raymond Feist (sp?). Last series I read was Tomorrow When The War Began, it's actually for young adults but I loved it - bought all seven and read the lot in a week!! lol - I'm an all or nothin type chick obviously hahahahahaaaa

Donna, sorry about your internet issues. That suuuuuux!

I real a lot of young adult books, actually. I even read Juvenile books. The author of the Hunger Games series, Suzanne Collins, wrote a juvenile series before the Hunger Games that I really liked. It's the Gregor the Overlander series. I've come to realize that I don't care what genre or even age group it's written for...if I like it, I'm gonna read it and if anyone wants to judge my extracurricular reading then they can kiss my patootie.

I love juvenile fictions, lol. I'll read pretty much anything I can get my hands on. I prefer library books, but my library is tiny(seriously, its smaller than my house) and it takes forever to get anything on hold within the system.

Yeah, I used to read constantly... but then I went to college and suddenly didn't have a lot of time for fun reading. I graduated in last December and I've read six books since then- the Help, the last two Twilight books, and the Hunger series. But I realize how much I LOVE reading. I love getting caught up in a book and not being able to put it down. That's totally my favorite thing.

And our local library totally sucks. It's ran off of donated books mostly and is full of sappy dirty romance novels that all the old ladies read... So I mostly download books for the kindle app on my iPad.

So I've been thinking about a kindle . . but have no idea about them - is it better to have an ipad or a kindle? Are the books huge downloads? How much are they - are kindles cheaper than ipads? Is it weird to read a screen after being used to holding on to a book???

I'm thinking about a Kindle, too. I know Jen loves hers and raves about it. Now that I can get books through the library, that's tipping towards really wanting one. Before, the thought of buying books (even though they're only like $10 I think) did not appeal to me. I don't buy books :D

hmmmm - I practically own a library, I have so many books . . lol . . I thought a kindle might inspire me to read more, but I dont know. I'm getting my obsession with scrapping again and maybe shouldnt mess around with anything else after being mojo-less for months!! I dont even care about Farmville anymore cos I just wanna scrap (that's amazing, I've been playing FV for like 18mths or more, barely missed a day) So I'm quite pleased that I'm leaning towards the scraptacular world again!! I'm sure it's all the pretty kits I've been buying here that's done it for me hehehe

Yes, reading and scrapping are in a heated rival for my free time. It's not pretty sometimes.

I hear ya there, sometimes I'm in balance, other times, you'll see my goodreads has tons of books and my gallery is dead and vice versa, lol!

I try to keep it in balance, but every so often, it goes off kilter, lol!

It's harder for me to read the 4th quarter of the year, I tend to have lots more in my schedule with the holidays. The first half of the year, I usually keep up with all my book clubs.

I have a kindle 2 and I ::love:: it! I've had mine for 2 years, and it was when they cost way more than they do now! Lydia just helped me figure out how to get library books from our local library onto my kindle last night (big shout out to cute Lydia, our own SugarBabe, - THANKS!) - our library has only gotten this feature in the last 6 weeks and I've not had a chance to get it up and going. It's totally awesome.

I love the kindle for reading. The ipad is nice, hubby has one, but I hardly ever use it, I find myself not really needing it, since I have an iphone and and imac, kwim? I love having a kindle on the beach, I would be worried having something so expensive as an ipad on the beach.

It's awesome for vacations to not have to pack 5 books and have it take up all that space, you can just throw your kindle in your bag and go.

I totally ::love:: my kindle! You guys should totally get a kindle! They ROCK! :)

Yeah, I probably should have just gotten a kindle because I don't use that my iPad that much. It's fun when I do though. lol

This thread is totally my favorite. :)

I love this thread, too, hehe!

I'm thinking I didn't make Cindy's CT, lol, since I haven't heard from her at this time. I guess it was a long shot!

I'm still waiting to hear back Creating Keepsakes magazine from my entry for the 2001 Hall of Fame... I mean it's been 10 years guys, why haven't they gotten back to me to let me know I've won??? (said with a sarcastic undertone, haha)
