Okay so I have NEVER had a boil EVER. and of all places to develop your first one.......in the crease of my buttocks. Disgusting and embarrassing all rolled into one with this issue. So I am sorry if this offends you stop reading now. But, I really need to hear some stories, get some advice and know what to prepare for to help me out. Because I have Fibromyalgia, just recovered from a 6 week UTI and have been becoming naseauseous after being in front of my computer for more than 15 minutes, this whole boil cropping up on Saturday is pushing me over my breaking point! I just don't know who much else I can deal with! Of course, I can't sit hardly without some kind of contortunist shape on a heating pad with a pillow and I just took my 4th sitz bath for the day. I am taking xanax 2 to 3 times per day to calm my nerves and relax me so I don't wig out over it. Online I have read that it takes 5 to 7 days for them to come to a head and most times drain on their own. I read that they can be caused by sitting for long hours (I just drove 5 hours to see my parents on Thurs) or can be caused by kidney issues (which I would qualify for seeing that I just came off of 6 weeks of a UTI) or by a lowered immune system (sick all the time). So, whatever the heck caused it is pissing me off. I am unbelievably frustrated and don't know what I will do if another pops up after this. I am just not mentally capable of dealing with anymore medical issues right now. I am spent.

Any body have any experience with boils that might be able to help me either feel a bit better or prepare me for what lies ahead? Any ideas on easing the pain? This is one of the most painful things I have experienced in my life! And I birthed 3 children naturally with no meds, had a kidney stone removed surgically and over 4 surgeries (including a tummy tuck). Please help!!!!!!! I am soooooooooooo FRUSTRATED beyond belief! And I have layouts I want to get done! Darnit! :)

Thanks for letting me rant girls!

Aw...I'm so sorry. My son gets them all the time. The pediatrician said it is from a past staph infection that he had that never really completely leaves your body. So when he gets one it's usually from a bug bite that then turns into a boil.

We put on a warm compress several times a day and have had pretty good success with BoilEase ointment. They only go away after they finally completely drain.

My sister had one in the exact same spot you do. She ended up going to the dr and getting a prescription med because of how difficult it was to treat back there.

I've used BoilEase or a drawing salve in the past as well but I had a hard time finding it last week (Needed a new tube last week finally had to have my pharmacy order it for me) My dermatoligist told me it was from hair folicles that get inflamed or infections that can get into a bite or cut

You can use a warm compress to help bring it to head..the pain will decrease GREATLY once the pus is drained (gross i know..)

oohhh... ouch! I've had those... they are a pain in the... well, you know. ;) I think they call that a "carbuncle". The only thing that I found to relieve the sore is warm compresses and soaking in hot water to soften it so it "pops" on it's own. I asked the doctor about it and he said that it's a type of staff (as Traci said) and that it will never leave the body, but it's contagious to other parts of the body and people. The only thing that he said to prevent more from coming is anti-bacteria soap... Hope the pain eases soon!

I don't have any advise but I have a funny story that might make you feel better about yours :) I had one about 11 years ago shortly after I had my first baby, it was like on/right beside "the hole" (oh yea....that hole down there on the ole' bum ), at first I thought it was a hemorrhoid and finally one day after so much pain I asked my dear hubby (of only 6 months mind you) to take a look. :o Well he being a man and not knowing how to be gentle or delicate starts poking and prodding at it and BAM............the sucker popped right on him. :D :D :D Talk about dying of laughter!!!!

Of course I still didn't know what it was and thinking it was a hemi headed to my doctor because I thought I was gonna bleed to death cause my dim wit hubby popped a blood vessel (mind you it was clear liquid that came out NOT blood :D). So picture me bent over the examination table with my drawers around my ankles and my young super hot doctor prodding my butt with a gloved finger.....not a pretty picture and probably the most embarrassing moment of my life!!! But I survived and thankfully have never had a boil again!!

Hope you feel better soon neenee and get some relief!!!! :hugs:

How strange - my 4-yr old has one that's just healing on her behind also. It freaked me out when I first saw it. I have never had a boil and did not know what to expect. But hubby got some boil cream and some strong antibiotic cream. We applied the creams and covered it with a bandage for a couple of days. After that and once it started looking better, we just let her go without the cream and bandaging so it could air out. I was really scared of it becoming staph or MARSA, but it's fine now.

Gosh, Elizabeth, I'm totally laughing out loud here. :D My co-workers are wondering what's so funny!

Oh my Elizabeth! That is too funny! LMAO over here! Wish I could laugh this darn boil off in the process.

I need to give in and go to Wal-Mart and find some kind of kids flotation device or a medical donut to sit on!

It feels a tiny bit better today, it is day 5 now.....man this is getting so OLD! I am such an active person and this is driving me crazy. I am just glad to be a SAHM.....I don't know what I would be telling my co-workers right now.

I had one not long ago that turned into MRSA.. let me tell you it felt SO much better after it drained. If it does come to a head, try to get it to drain, it will feel better, I promise. It's gross, but it really will help.

I haven't had one in YEARS (*knock on wood*) When I was much younger and swimming all the time to stay cool in the AZ summer I wouldn't change out of my suit. VERY BAD!!!! So I ended up with them around where the suit elastic is on my bum.

The best thing is the hot compresses. Really get them as hot as you can stand. They do feel better after they have either naturally drained, been "popped" or drain my a doctor. If the doctor drains it you will probably be put on an antibiotic as well.
