Kindle Cheap Book Recommendations

I actually haven't bought a book yet (it's been 5 months) :D :D but this is a good resourse for them

But what you will really want to do is get a US address for your Amazon account (if you don't have one) then you will be able to get tons of free books!!!!
 
yea you know i've noticed a few things.. on the amazon website there are free books that i have downloaded but then there have been a few times where a book showed 0 but then when i clicked to add it to cart it wasn't free any longer.. and i'm assuming thats because i have a canadian address.
 
Have you tried your local library? Mine has a huge selection of eBooks you can borrow for 21 days.
 
There are a bunch of mysteries from the "Golden Age" (1930s) for 99 cents if you like mysteries. Just search 99 cent in the Kindle store & you'll get a huge list. Plus a lot more in the $1-4 range. Romances too and the first book or two of various fiction series
 
The last book I finished on my Kindle was How I Learned to Love the Walrus by Beth Orsoff and really loved it :) I started one after it that I disliked very much and just started a new one that I don't have an opinion about yet. The problem with cheap books for the Kindle is that some of them are NO GOOD :D A lot of self publishing and such. This one, though, I just adored...kept me moving right along till the end :)
 
Kristin, I don't know what kind of books you like, but I read one that was a murder/mystery/thriller type called "Killer" by Stephen Carpenter that was $3.27. It wasn't too scary/gory or anything. It kept me flipping pages and I basically read it straight through. It was one that I got an excerpt from and then bought the book. I'd be happy to loan it to you though if you'd like. :D You could just PM me your email addy.

I also found an interesting one called The Imperfectionists: A Novel, which I think was $5. I haven't read it all the way yet, but I almost bought it twice because it seemed to have some interesting characters.

That is another bummer about kindles in canada.. no book lending and no library lending. thumbs down to that one :( bah

Anyways I gotta say I'm really loving the convenience of the kindle! It seems to make reading quicker too? Maybe since i'm not squinting my eyes with small print?? haha.. :)
 
does the kindle do book lending between two people? I knnow the Nook does and was wondering if that would be a possibility for you? Maybe a friend could lend you a book and you do the same to lessen cost of books

So how do they know you are in canada? can you input address info for someone living in the U.S.? (Ive never used an eeader so sorry if thats a stupid question)

Yea but with Amazon's 7 day return policy on Kindle content, you never have to read a bad book!!! :thumbup:
 
Kristin, just change your address to one in the US to take advantage of the US content. That's all I had to do.

Have you guys heard of Ebooknovel.com ? It's a subscription service for ebooks. u pay a fee per month (or every couple of months, or u can get a lifetime membership) and u can download as many of their ebooks as u like, as long as your membership is paid. I have a lifetime membership which has paid for itself multiple times.

I will tell you right now, it's badly set out and is frustrating to find what you want, but if your willing to spend the time searching, it's well worth it. They have zillions of books. Every popular series is there and if u want something they don't have, you can request it. I requested a series and they had it up within 24 hours.

Truly Lena, it's awesome. Frustrating to navigate but worth the hassle. I've read many of the series that are always mentioned in the 'book series' threads we always have here. I wouldn't have been able to if I'd had to buy them all separately.

oh.my.gosh. seriously didn't know that. I bought some total duds and didn't realize I could return them! It got me real hesitant to buy some of the more expensive books (meaning more than $10 LOL). Thanks for mentioning this!!

Silly question but once you download a book is it yours to keep?
 
I'm thinking no...I'm thinking it's a subscription service just like Rhapsody to go or something like that....it's yours as long as you pay the rental fee on it kwim? If you bought a lifetime membership with the place I'd say it's free forever then if that makes sense. But once you stop paying the monthly fee it will disappear off your device, the license will run out.

My problem was I bought so many at once, I didn't know some of them were crap till later because I obviously didn't start them all at once. I bought like a dozen books at once. Anyway, I wasn't out much money; not a huge deal but I will definitely know for future reference.

Yep it's yours to keep. There used to be a thread in their forum there about it. Basically you download the ebook files to your computer, as you would a scrapbook kit. then put them onto your device.

So even if you purchase a one month membership, you can go download 200 books to your computer if you want, they'll still be there once your membership runs out. It's what I did at first, to make sure I liked it enough to purchase a lifetime membership.

I bought the lifetime membership because they add new books all the time, and you get some other bonuses, like getting more points to request books.

Wait, I take that back. That's the way it was when I joined. I was just searching for the thread in their forum and it seems they might have changed their system for new members. Their FAQ's is terribly confusing. Still, I highly recommend checking them out. And I swear I'm in no way connected to the site! It's just been the cheapest way I've found to get ebooks. :-)
 
Thanks for that recommendation Lani! I looked at their site and if you get the Lifetime membership, you get to keep the books forever, but the monthly memberships have the books go away when your membership is expired. The lifetime membership is honestly a good price. The lifetime membership is only about the cost of 10 books! Is there a way to see their list of books without buying the membership? I'm just curious to what they have that I'd actually be interested in. I might do the month membership to check it out, but if they just had a list to look at that would be great.
 
Yeah, Julie, they're terrible like that. Very unorganised. There is no list of books they have. If you have a few titles in mind that you'd like to read i could check for you. In general, anything popular or fairly new will be there. Ive read all the sookie stackhouse books, hunger games trilogy, outlander series, Stephanie plum....But I would really recommend doing a one month membership to see if you like it.
 
I did the subscription and I can not for the life of me figure out the site. I can't even look at the books to download ughhhhhhh
 
Hmmm I read on ebooknovel that the books are ours to keep once downloaded! How would they be able to delete them once a membership is cancelled if they are downloaded to a laptop then moved to a Kindle? I'll find out in a few weeks when I cancel my monthly subscription lol!!

Let us know Gemma! I'm curious! I was figuring the books went away with the monthly memberships because of this statement.

Our lifetime program has many benefits, you get to keep all of the ebooks you download for life! Because we are a lending service, if you sign up for a lifetime membership, you in effect get to keep your ebooks for life!

This is exactly what I think the deal is...I have a customer service email into them to find out though. I want to know because a monthly membership would not be the best way to go, but a lifetime would be AWESOME! As a lending service, they can remove the files from your device(s) because it's registered to the devices and the certification runs out every month. Napster, Rhapsody, all of these services work the same way. You never own your music unless you pay per song, and they don't offer a lifetime membership. They basically deposit a software onto your device that allows them to add and remove licensed content.

My only concern with a lifetime membership is what if they go under, so to speak.

Still, $100-something for a lifetime's worth of books though; is an amazing deal!

I might get a one month to try it out...right after I read the books I already have on my Kindle :p

If I like it though, a lifetime membership totally sounds the way to go.
 
Do you know if you have to pay the full year up front? I'd definitely download a bunch right away so that if they disappear tomorrow I'd feel like I at least got my monies worth.

I already have so many random free books on my kindle (I think it was 190 yesterday), I need to find a good way of organizing them to seperate out the classics I might read someday, the freebies that I can read whenever and the "good" books I know I want to read soon. Oh and the random PDF files I just like to have with me.
 
This just feels "too good to be true" for me. I mean ebooks work almost like digi kits...you are just buying the license to use them..not the actual books. And the people/company publishing the books set all the guidelines for them (price, format,lending capacity).

I mean I couldn't imagine signing up for a subscription site with a third party "person" that promised me ANY digi kit I could imagine for one low price (from SSD, DD, SO, TDC ect...). Maybe a subscription to say *just* SSD (run by SSD), where they offered free downloads of *just* SSD products for a monthly fee.

I just can't see this being legit...now if it was say just Harlequin books and it was owned/run by Harlequin...I could see where it would be feasible. I just can't imagine big name authors "agreeing" to a site that this.

Maybe I'm wrong..maybe it's 100% on the up and up, but I personally wouldn't touch it with a ten foot pole.
