What's your paradox?

Susan's post got me thinking...

I'm a super-earthy, crunchy, open-minded green chickie, but about as conservative right-wing Southern evangelical Christian as you can get.

I'm a walking paradox according to many, although I think there are a lot more folks like me than you might imagine. How about you? What's your paradox?

Heheh I feel I am quite a paradox as well. Here are just a few lol:

All for recycling/being green/saving the earth yet use disposable diapers (I just can't handle bodily fluids). Conservative and spiritual yet not Christian. Want peace yet own a gun. I prefer being out in nature yet more time is spent in front of my computer. I could probably go on and on.. lol

I'm a definite paradox... I danced in "Gentlemen's Clubs" for five years, I worked as a dominatrix in a dungeon and on stage and movies, I was a centerfold for Legshow magazine and I was the manager of a trendy sex shop in Orange County.

And...

I'm completely and utterly SHY about sex with my DH.

**shrugs**

yup. Complete and total paradox here too.

I was a total hippie, stoned out of my gourd type of gal when I was in college and I absolutely hate the fact that my brother still hasn't grown up and smokes on a regular basis.

I have to, have to, have to have order in my life, yet I'm a horrible housekeeper.

I hate hunting and all things guns, yet I'm married to the world's most avid goose/duck hunter in the world.

I could go on and on LOL

I've always hated "The Man" but I worked as a cop for about 5 years.

I don't care what people think of me... but I'm currently freaking out because I don't have anything decent to wear today.

Yeeeah, that's all I can think of right now.

I am a nature loving wiccan who thinks she is roughing it in a Motel 6 with no wifi. I *Hate* camping. I'll go be one with nature for a few hours during the day, then I need to go be one with indoor plumbing, air conditioning and the internet.

I belong to the NRA and believe in gun control.

I guess mine is that I'm a chemist and I typically lean to the less processed, more natural of things. Even before kids!

You are pretty much me. I recycle, used cloth diapers, use recycled TP & paper towels, bring my own bags, etc. But about as conservative as you can get. :)

Have you read the book Crunchy Cons? Good read. :)

Yes! Well, I read most of it a couple of years ago. I got distracted and never finished it. lol

What kind of cloth diapers do you use? We've used them since we found out Noah was coming. :p LOVE them!

Well, we don't anymore b/c Luke is five. lol But our workhorse diapers for daycare/church were FuzziBunz. THen, for at home & out and about I had a lot of favorites... all pretty little embroidered AIOs- Mudpie Babies, Fluffymail, Lucy's Hope Chest, Calico Baby, Bottombumpers. I was a complete addict. :)

Well, I am a devout Mormon, but I strongly believe in pro-choice and I support gay marriage. If the gays want to be miserable like the rest of us married folk, why the heck not! LOL

I very much want peace, but I have my Smith & Wesson to even up any score that may come my way! LOL

Paula- I could seriously HUG you!!!!

I'm not really a paradox.

I'm a liberal, pro-union, pro-choice, pro-gay, kinda crunchy girl.

I finally thought of one :p

I'm very much a "my body is a temple" type gal.. I'm a veg, I do yoga, I've started running...

and I'm a heavy smoker :p

I went through a fitted & longies stage, too... Patchwork Pixie was my favorite w/Crankypants longies. :) Have you been on Hyenacart? My paypal really liked that place. ha ha! BumGenius are too new for me... they didn't have them until after Luke was pt'd.

That sort of describes me, actually... though I'm not completely right-wing and we recently moved from a Southern Baptist to a Presbyterian church, lol. Though a conservative Presbyterian church.

I'm also not sure that I'm super-earthy, though I am getting going with gardening a bit more, and would keep chickens if my dh let me, lol.

I also couldn't get through Crunchy Cons but I have enjoyed some of Dreher's articles.

I'm right here with you la... I completely take care of my body... but give into drinking and smoking

lets see I"m a green loving peace hippie spiritual *non religious* liberal pro your" "choice .... my thought, do your own thing and screw what everyone else does! Only opposite stuff is.... I do use a gun and agree slightly with conservatives.... ehh I'm also all natural, yet constantly give in into quick fast food on busy days.

Yup, what she said!!!!! and Samara!!! I am with them!

I've only been able to think of one....

I am a church-attending, Jesus-loving, God-praising mother of two young sons....

... and I swear like a sailor.

I should add a few things:

1) I hate that I swear. Its my worst habit and I'm really trying to stop. It sounds ugly and hateful and I don't like it when I hear myself doing it.
2) I *almost* never swear in front of my kids. Every now-and-then the s-word will slip out if I slam my finger in the car door or something... otherwise, I'm clean as a whistle around them.
3) I can turn it on and off depending on my social situation, which I'm not sure is a good thing, as some people may view that as hypocriitical or oxymoronic.

Darn La - I was right with you there on the "absolutely nothing" and ya' blew it! LOL
Kidding!

Here's one for ya'...

I have not, nor will I ever say tell my kids to "Shut Up" and they are not allowed to say that word either.

But the word "sh*t" and "*ss" are quite frequently used around my house.

I can't help it - sometimes the situation calls for no better word!

Other than that, I'm good! LOL

Goodness I feel so boring all of a sudden. I can't think of anything at the moment LMAO. I think unfortunately I cant fit myself in anyone mold because I believe in so many different things but theres always some long winded explanation behind everything.

tracie...this is why we get a long so well. i'm as right-winged jesus freak as they come and i'm a recycling. conserving. yoga doing. vitamin eating. crunchy girl.

i'm also with jenny...i go to chuch every week and not just to be there but to build my relationship with jesus and i cannot seem to let go of the occasional swearing. i'm not quite a sailor, but the longer i hang with jenny...you never know...AHAHAHHA!! kidding.

i also don't love the idea of guns in any situation, yet i yearn to be a police officer. have since i was 12 or 13.

i've also been a medical assistant for 7 years (trying to get back to finish my nursing for ages!), but hate all things pharmaceutical related (rx drugs kill people!!) and i'm pretty sure that's what the medical community strives on! makes for a super fun doc/nurse relationship. :p

oh and i love you girls, big time!!

((not picking on Lizzy, but she was the last to comment this))

I've seen this comment a few times on this thread and it just confuses me! LOL Is there some stereotype that people on the religious or political right are not concerned about the environment and won't recycle?? In my world those are not opposing values. I'm all about recycling and reducing my 'footprint'... why wouldn't anyone be?? Green is the new black, baby! :)

lol, I thought the same thing. But I think that the idea is that people who veer more towards the left *tend* to be a bit more crunchy than us right-wingers, thus more apt to live the "green" lifestyle.

Well... I'm pretty far left over here...
who am I kidding, I'm as far left as you can get.

but...
I could care less about recycling and I think granola and tree hugging should be a strictly squirrel occurrence. And there's no way anyone's going to get me to camp. And I think cloth diapers are horrifying.

That's right, I'm a 'dox.

i totally agree!!!! and after reading this thread there seem to be a lot of liberals who don't really practice green living. we all need to care and it needs to stop being a 'sterotypical thing' and more just a typical thing.

I am as conservative as they come on family values, crime and punishment, government BUT enviromentally I think it is EVERYONES job to preserve what we have been given. I feel it is not our earth to trash and should be in as good or better shape then what the generation before us left. I hope the generation that comes after us feels the same way.

I love animals and CANNOT kill anything but I eat meat and my husband and son both hunt. The one and only time I saw what he killed I was crying hysterically and had to leave the area. I do not mind the aftermath so long as I do not have to see the actual animal whole as it would be while living.

I am pretty much pro-life (although I do not force MY iceas on someone else) the exception to that is I feel that anyone who committs a violent act against another person (rape/child molestation/murder) should get the death penalty. I feel very strongly about this when it occurs to a child. I feel that they are worthless and there is absolutely no rehabilitation for anyone who would hurt a child in this way.

I'm wayyyyy too lazy to practice green living.
Still love me, Fizz?
