The Sound of Music...

Doe- a dear a female ear. Ray- a rop of golden sun. Me- a name I call myself. Far- a long long way to run. Sew- a needle pulling thread. La- a note to follow so. Tea- I drink with jam and bread. And that brings us back to do
Do-Re-Mi-Fa-So-La-Ti-Do

i ADORE the sound of music!!!

in fact, 16 going on 17 is my jam...i actually sound like liesl. not even kidding. own the soundtrack and the movie!! lol!!!

funny side story: my bestest friend growing up (who is now a junior high theatre teacher) and i used to entertain the youth group church bus on every outting with our singing acapella to every musical soundtrack and disney song ever created.

musicals por vida. :D

It's a childhood favorite of mine...I'm the only one watching it right now....I started singing and my 14yo ds says "please mom!" (meaning don't sing)....can't help it...that movie makes me wanna sing!

This is probably my all-time favorite movie. Of course, in a house full of males, I have to watch it by myself.

When my brother was in 8th grade, he was Captain Von Trapp in the school play...I used to run the lines with him (I was in 4th), and we always had to skip over the part where he kisses Maria, because he was too embarrassed. Hee.

Sing along with me....

Nothing comes from nothing...nothing ever could...so somewhere in my youth or childhood....I must have done something good....

We are at the wedding part, and Amanda is like.."is this the end?" And I just laughed. And she was like " will this movie ever end???"

Yes it is a long movie. In today's movie biz this would be the sequel part. lol

Well, shucks, I missed it...DH has had the House marathon on ALL DAY LONG (I like House, but still...oh well, at least it's not Dora the Explorer).

Sharon, you need to be on the lookout for the sing-a-long version of the movie....the words come up on the bottom of the screen during the songs and everyone sings along. A good friend actually took me to a live version where we all sang along...it was FANTABULOUS! Highly recommended.

Of course, I LURVE just about every Rodgers & Hammerstein musical....come down this summer and we can go see Oklahoma! at DiscoveryLand in Tulsa!

I've never heard about the sing-a-long version! Cool. I need to get some singing lessons though...I sound like a frog.

OH Oklahoma! Another of my absolute faves!!! I would love to come see it... I would love for the kids to see it too! Check out the dates and let me know...see if we can make it!! Oh that would be so cool!

My boys want to know when the sequel will be on... lol

Anyone know what all the main characters are up to these days? We saw Julie Andrews in Princess Diaries...but what about the others?

I love it too!! I remember watching this as a kid. My husband had never seen it before!!!! I could not believe that. He watched most of it. Said it was a pretty good movie. Ummm yea not pretty good its fricking awesome!! LOL

they had them all on I wanna say Good Morning America maybe Oprah about a year or so ago. It was an anniversary for the movie. Maybe the 40th? I looked it up and it was released/made (not sure which) in 1965. Anyhow most of them if I remember correctly did not go on to become actors/actresses. If you go to http://www.imdb.com you can look up the movie and then click on the actors/actrsses names and see what theey did before/after this movie and then it usually has a breif summary of their life also. Id say the youngest Gretl would have to be nearing 50 by now though.

Check it out here: Discoveryland!
It's a yearly thing there in the summertime...we've never seen it (can you believe DH has lived here for nearly 56 years and has NEVER EVER seen the musical OR the movie?)

I think it'd be great to bring the kids to see the production (ok, an excuse to get my BF to Oklahoma LOL). I need some theater-going buddies around here...I went to ADPlayers in Houston alot...but haven't gone to any shows since I moved up here...it's just not DH's thing. I DID get him to agree to see Miss Saigon if it ever comes through OK or Dallas, but of course it hasn't, and probably won't.

Enough rambling...back to your Sound of Music talk!

Darn it! That is one of my favorite movies! We just hooked up our brand new HD 50" flat screen last night too, I would have loved to watch it on that! I was watching What Women Want instead.

I'm so bummed. I didn't realize it was on until it was half over last night, lol Pam I watched What Women Want instead too!

It was my absolute fave movie as a child. I DVRed it and plan to see if DD will watch any of it today. I want her to love it like I do. It reminds me of warm evenings snuggled up with my grandparents.

What? No State Fair? Not that Pat Boone/Ann-Margret crap, but the good version with Jeanne Crain and Dana Andrews? I LOOOOVE IT.

I bought it on DVD about 6 months ago, and my kids have now watched it approximately 19,246,789,853 times (not to mention listening to the music CD). My undying love of the Sound of Music is actually wearing a bit thin.

A Captain with seven children. What's so fearsome about that? . . .
