Thanks for staying sweet!

Can I just say that I truly appreciate the tolerance and understanding/acceptance of this community? There is another forum and people keep bringing up stuff about my religion and some people have become really offensive. It angers me and makes me sad. I keep finding myself running back here to get a little dose of sweetness!

Some people need a lesson on how to respectfully speak about another's religion... "weird" and "strange" are offensive words to me. Some people were saying how they thought it was so neat that everyone was being so respectful, while I found several people's posts rather offensive and ignorant.

Sorry, just needed to vent.

Well now I'm so curious. What *is* your religion? I totally promise be respectful of it, but I totally want to know....

Yeah, that's the reason I stopped hanging out on message boards. Sorry you have to put up with it... especially in regard to something so sacred and personal as religion. That burns my booty!

This is indeed a wonderfully sweet and tolerant place. It's a shame some others can't be tolerant and just let folks be who they are. I'm sorry you weren't treated well where ever it was.
It's sure not important to me where or even if you worship, hon. I just like ya for yourself :)

Yep, that thread really upset me too. It is a religion bashing thread and there were many things in there that were very offensive and down right rude.

I know that was to Megan and I don't mean to threadjack, but that's the most comforting thing I've ever heard on a message board. The trouble I've come into on other boards has a lot to do with the fact that I'm not religious. I know the hurtful things people can say when they're veiled by computers.

I know how you feel. I have tried not to even go there because it was upsetting me too much.

Yeah, I don't mind what religion you are or even if you do worship at all! All I ask is that we all be respectful, especially about something I feel so passionately about. I hope I am always respectful... I try really hard to be. I find other religions FASCINATING! I have taken some religion courses here at the university... I think more people need to have an understanding of other faiths rather than just blindly making ignorant statements. Makes me crazy.

Ugh. I'm so sorry! I saw that thread too, and I really stinks. There's a LDS mama on the cloth diapering board I'm a part of, and the topic was brought up there, but it was handled sooo differently. It was totally respectful and just wanting to understand others' beliefs, KWIM? I wish people would think before they "speak".

I'm glad i have no idea where that thread was. It's no doubt a community i'd not feel too happy to be a part of.

Yeah, I can see people being curious and wanting to understand what we believe... but this woman asked a question... this one LDS gal answered really respectfully and tried to answer everyone's questions. She just got eaten alive!!! It's like they didn't care what she said, they just kept saying stuff that was completely false even though she was like, no that's not what we believe... blah blah blah. So it seemed to me they really weren't curious at all, just wanting to voice something about our religion they thought was "weird." :cursing:

I try not to look at that thread anymore, but I can't help but click when I see there's a new post sometimes... I just need to stay away.

I agree. I think many of the people who have posted on that thread have absolutely no interest in learning about others' beliefs, they just want to attack anything that's different from what they believe. It sucks. Some people are just mean. :cursing:

sometimes its really great that my english is not good enough for such threads.... and so I don't read them... :-)

Try to ignore them! There are always people thinking your religion is weird or something like that! Often people only want to fling down the gauntlet (right expression?) They want to make you angry, hurt you and maybe confuse you.

Tracie, you had told it much better than me :-)

Just stay away from that thread, it's not worth wasting your time or your energy on :)

I prefer that the world had a whole flavour variety of cupcakes rather than just the one flavour LOL!

I could not agree more. I'm one of those that falls into the "still trying to find myself" category. I did read the thread also, and it makes me speechless.

I think the world would be rather boring if we were all the same.

*hugs* to all of you affected.

whatever! we all have our ideas about religion etc. but what it all boils down to is respect! that's poo that they are being rude. we love ya, megan!!

This is exactly why I am practically exclusive to SSD (see, that makes this place even more special, it's the only place you get ME!! :p). You can't find the same level of tolerance, respect, and compassion anywhere else on the net.

*hugs* Megan, we love ya :)

Completely off-topic:

I totally agree, La.

I can't eat pudding skin. How does it grow onto the pudding? It reminds me of how we scab over when we're injured, and I'd rather DIE than eat a SCAB. As if I was some kind of wild animal. *shudder*

i don't see what is so 'weird' and 'strange' about Mormons. people need to just STHU (shut the hell up lol)

it is nice to not be judged here. this is the sweetest place on the internet!

WOW! I guess I'm glad I missed the thread. I am just amazed at some people who have nothing better to do than diss people, their beliefs, their political choices, etc. It just grates on my last nerve.

I don't care what religion you are, who you voted for, or if you eat meat or not. It's your decision and it's your life. Who the heck am I to say it's right or wrong? Now if you were breaking the law then I might have to say something!

And I am one of those people that love to hear about other people's religion, but as a learning experience and I would never be negative to them if they were sharing! Geesh! I'm sorry that you were treated unkind.

It always amazes me how unkind people can be to one another. I'm so sorry you were hurt by that thread. :( I'm another who likes to learn about all religons and beliefs...it's fascinating to me. I wish people would be more tolerant and less quick to judge. ((hugs))

I don't know what that thread was all about but I know that I had to explain the difference between LDS and FLDS (the ones with the controversy as of late) to my DH. He didn't think there was a difference.

At any rate, I was half expecting her to come back and say "Hi, I'm Megan... I worship pudding skin." I don't see what's "weird" about being LDS either.

Wait... did I take that too far? I joke but I luuuuurve...

2 things that I never judge anyone for:
1. Political beliefs
2. Religion beliefs

Sorry some people can't filter being mean!

You know it is kinda funny to me how things here are like my life.
I am trying to teach my son that you are not mature til you can see an issue from someone elses point of view. And respect the others point of view.

I think other peoples' religions are fascinating too, Megan. After taking Religions of the World in college, I almost wanted to become a Hindu because I was into all the funky gods they have for different things. I love that stuff (and find Catholic Saints fascinating for the same reason) -- guess I just like the stories!

Anyhoooo, I was hopeful in the beginning that the thread might be a positive discussion, and the response from the LDS lady (can't remember who she was but I agree she gave a very informative and respectful response) actually did inform me on the issue since I didn't know much about it, just that a lot of people seemed ticked off. So, if it's any consolation, maybe the thread helped some people like me to understand the LDS position better, even though we would never post on a thread like that.
