8-Week Weight Loss Challenge- Wanna Join Me?

Hey ladies-

I know we've had a few threads started in the past discussing weight loss and I'm wondering if there's anyone who's ready to take it to the next level with me? :)

My idea is not new or inventive, but it would hopefully be something just for SSD members (because I think you're all awesome!). I've had success in the past with a private team-based forum with a set-up mimicking that of the TV show "The Biggest Loser". But, I dropped out due to time restraints just before my wedding last year and it didn't allow people to re-join, understandably. Side note- No eliminations during the 8 weeks like the show, everyone stays!

You can see the forum here- www.teresavictor.com/biggestloser Registrations are being manually turned on, patience please. Usernames need to be first name_SSD username (unless your first name is your username). For example: Teresa_DigiKitty. Username blast from the past!

The 8-week challenge would begin this Monday, July 21st with our first weigh-in and continue until Monday, September 15th. Sign-ups will be required by this Sunday at 8pm EST. Teams will be announced on Monday, the 21st.

How it Works- There will be 3 teams (chosen by me based on starting weights to even out the teams). Each week there will be two challenges- a lifestyle challenge and a physical challenge where you earn points for your team (ETA: Physical challenges are exercise-focused, not overly physically demanding, just designed to get you movin'.). An optional bonus challenge may also be issued. Weigh-ins will be on Mondays, the team with the highest percentage of weight loss earns 20 points that week, 15 points for 2nd, 10 points for third.

Conditions- Everyone is welcome, regardless of your gender, age, fitness level, how much you have to lose, what weight loss program you use, etc. Challenges will be friendly for all participants. If you sign-up to participate, please pledge to complete the whole 8 weeks. While I'd prefer if you sign up now in the forum, you don't leave.... :), you'll have until Sunday at 8pm EST to drop out if you want to, just send me PM. Teams will be capped at 20 members each, so only the first 60 people who sign up will be approved until others drop out (doubt we'll get that high!).

If you're interested, please sign-up in the forum above and I'll get you set with permissions ASAP. Please be patient with me....I created this tonight and have never attempted to administrate a forum before. LOL This will be an adventure!

Heck yeah - I signed up. Have 2 BIG weddings coming up in October and January and I want to look HOT but most of all, I want to go and enjoy myself for once :) I so need motivation to get off my big arse!!! LOL....
 
Woo-hoo! Yeah, LuAnn! We'll re-evaluate based on how successful this whole thing is at the end of 8 weeks on whether or not to keep going, but I'm hoping it will be a great jumping-off point anyway!

Weddings are a fabulous motivator!
 
Teresa, can we do it without the physical challenge? I'm all for losing weight, but those challenges can be overly demanding for me. I don't want to mess up a team just because I can't do some challenges.

Oops, I guess I should clarify! The physical challenges will be focused on exercise, mostly based on time (e.g. 30 minutes, 3x/week) and you could choose to walk/bike/etc. I'd like to just focus on "getting moving". :) Not pushing ourselves to the limit. The optional bonus challenges may have a few more "demanding" tasks thrown in, but I'm trying to make it good for as many people as possible to participate.

I'm in...I kinda stopped trying to lose weight after I got back from Cali...I need a kick in the butt to start eating better again!

I registered but I only registered with twentytinytoes because it wouldnt let me do katrina_twentytinytoes lol it said it was too long
 
I gained 30 pounds since last summer, I need a real boost.

My username was too long too, so I signed up as jamie_mountiewife (dropped the newfie part)

ETA I got a page cannot be displayed after I hit submit so I'm not sure if it worked or not?
 
Maybe this is what I need to keep up once I start trying. I'm in! I'll be gone for 5 days in August to the Keys, but we're staying in the same rental house as last year and it had internet access (and lots of places around to walk) so I should be ok.
 
Hey T..you think this would be ok for me to play along with even though I'm a WW? I already do all the healthy eating and exercise 30 mins and junk. Would I be risking helpingmy team because of any life commitments I am currently undergoing? :) I'm so glad this has finally come together btw!! YAY!

Hey Manda- Please join us!! I'm doing WW right now too, but having a horrible time sticking to it. If you've already got the basics down, you'll only be helping your team by earning all the points! :)
 
Are you the only one who will see our weight?

No....it's everyone, but only people who have signed up for the challenge because I add everyone who registers individually, not just anyone who stops by the board.

I hope this isn't a deal-breaker for anyone....we're all in this for the same reasons no matter how much we want to lose! :)
 
I'm tossing the idea around T. I could use the accountability this would provide. I just don't want to over extend myself with the 3Day training.
 
Teresa - If I join, I will be on vacation next week in the middle of the mountains and I will not be near a scale, so would it be alright to use my Sunday weight? Also I will have limited internet access there - do we need to log in every day? Once next week is over it would be clear sailing for me. Well, I may have shoulder surgery, but it will not prevent me from exercising, it will just limit the types of upper body movements I can do outside of physical therapy - but walking etc. should not be an issue.
And for those that are concerned about their weight showing - I'm willing to post mine and I'm close to 300 pounds (though trying hard not to get to that number).

Sure, your Sunday weight is just fine! You don't have to log in everyday (although it would be ideal), at least every other to keep your weekly log updated, though. Vacations are A-OK exception, just let us know when you're away and we'll anxiously await your return. :)

Like I said, I need the accountability. I've been slacking on my training anyway, so hopefully you lovely ladies will just yell at me "DID YOU WALK TODAY?!?!!?" :p
 
okay I registered. partly b/c I really need to start being more healthy. partly b/c I can't stand the idea of you guys doing something w/o me :p
 
oooh...I think I have to join you guys...might be the added boost I need to get losing my extra weight so we can do the baby thing again...(you'd think wanting to do the baby thing again would be enough, but I've been slacking)

okay, I registered...but as Becca_372...that way it didn't have "becca" twice...that would have driven me nutty...I'm crazy that way....

looking forward to this a lot!

I'm not real keen on throwing my weight out there for everyone to see... BUT.. I could really use the accountablity. So I signed up! :D
