Do you know anything about the "red ring of death"? LOL!!! DH tried to play a game last night and it froze up. So he re-started and then the red circles appeared on the console. HELP!!! Does this mean that we get to buy a new console?

Hey Kat, I know I am not Kim but being an XBox owner, I have already experience the RROD. It is a known problem with XBox and because of that you can call them and they will have you ship it to them (at no charge) and they will fix it or replace it for free. We just had that happen to ours and they were very quick to get it back to us along with one month of live for free. HTH!

We've had it too...it's a glitch and XBox is so great about replacing them :) We had our box the next day and had a new one back to us w/in the week!

Poor thing though right at break/holidays to have to go thru that

Thanks girls. I will let DH know. :) I don't really mind that it's out considering it takes up my TV time but we also use it to watch movies so that's the sucky part....

I agree - they're very good about fixing it. Although with a failure rate like that, they should be, lol!! We've had it happen twice already!!

Hey sorry I am late in answering. But yes you can call Xbox and it depends on when it was purchased as to if they will replace it now or not. But of course give it a try because I would rather try and have them tell me no than to just go out and buy a new one if they can fix it for you. But yeah they break all the time.

We at one point had 6 xboxes in our house and now we are down to 3. My husband of course just takes the broken ones with him back to work and turns them in. We have only paid for 1 xbox the rest he brings home to test etc.

I hope they can fix it for you. If you ever have any xbox questions with anything just always call them they are pretty good about helping you out with problems.

I had to call twice when my 3 year old purchased xbox points under my account!!! Needless to say I put a password on my account after that.

We also had it happen on our Xbox 360 too (which had hardly been played because DH decided he'd rather have a PS3 a few months after he got it), but luckily it happened about 1-2 months before our 1yr warranty was up. They were really good about sending us a replacement unit out though, but I think we did have to pay to ship it back via UPS but it wasn't very much. But now we have a brand new replacement unit that's only been taken out of the box once and that was to test it :D

OH NO the dreaded red ring of death!
My SO has had that happen to him 3 times...of course he got the xbox 360 when it first came out so there were a lot of glitches.
Like the others said though, xbox will ship it and fix it free of charge.

hahaa! That is the exact opposite of my DH. I got him a PS3 for Valentine's Day(so romantic, i know  ) because he "had to have one", but now it just collects dust because of his Xbox 360!

Well, I guess I'll be calling X-Box Monday. I can't remember when we bought it.... 2 years ago for Christmas I think and it's the Halo one (dark green console). I wonder if they'll cover it? If not, we might as well buy a new one since Costco has them (the white ones) for $198 now.

We're a family of 4 XBoxes - 2 living, 1 dead and 1 in purgatory (see below). We've had RROD but it always corrected itself. Just today though, the laser stopped reading the disk. We called and are sending it in first thing Monday.

They should fix it for you and if its out of warrenty it probably costs less to fix it than to buy a new one. Just call 'em and see what they say.

another family who has had the RROD, ours happened about 2 months after the warranty expired, but they still replaced it for us. We barely use ours anymore, since we have the original PS3 (that is backwards compatible) and the new slim PS3, and Des plays a lot more games that are PS3 only games.

Well, DH couldn't wait and went and bought a new console tonight. I've e-mailed support to see about returning this one so I'm assuming I'll hear back tomorrow. If it can be fixed then we'll just have 2 - which makes me happy because I can put the new one in DS's room and he can play in there and I can have my TV back!!! :)

It's kinda disappointing to know that this is a widespread problem though. :(

When we were deciding on a Wii, PS or XBox a couple of years ago, this was one of the reasons we decided to go with the Wii. A lot of my friends had XBoxes and had to send them in for repair. If I spend that much money, it better last a long time! LOL!

This is going to sound crazy - but we have 3 X-Boxes - One in the living room - and my 15yo is opening his on Friday - We have had many red rings of death - they have always replaced them for us -
We do use ours every day - I constantly stream Netfix and use them as DVD players - If you don't stream Netflix I highly recommend it!

We don't have a subscription to x-box live. Is it really worth it? How much does it run and what all can it do?
