I was planning on getting my daughter (5 months) her first stocking this weekend, along with a Baby's First Christmas tree ornament... well, the other day my MIL came to visit and brought over a pink stocking with "baby's first christmas" on it! I know she was just being nice but I didn't want to let her down by saying something like, "I really wanted to buy her a stocking and her first 'First Christmas' keepsake". So I stuffed the stocking away in the tote of decorations and am still planning on buying what I originally intended to buy for my daughter. I feel bad about it, but not that bad... even DF knew how important it was to me that I buy her those things, after his mom left he immediately asked if I was upset that she got her a stocking....
So... what would you do? Would you let MIL know you were planning on getting those things for your baby's 1st Christmas? Keep the stocking MIL bought and just never use it? Suck it up and use the stocking anyway?
(BTW... all of our other stockings got ruined in storage.... a candle melted all over them! so I was kinda wanting to find some matching stockings for the whole family this year and a pink stocking wouldn't coordinate.)
