wowww!! What a night!!

My husband and I went to the store to do some grocery shopping tonight and when we come home we see a highway patrol officer at the end of the road that we have to come down to get to the road we live on. To get an idea of what happened I have to describe this road. It is about 3 miles long and a straight road with no stop signs except for each end. It deadends into our road and you have to either turn right or left because there is a house at the end of the road on the street we live on. Well apparently someone did not turn right or left and must not have even hit the brakes because the guys truck is in the porch of the house and he hit it so hard the bed of the truck is now sitting on the ground OFF THE TRUCK!! Now this is probably the third or fourth time in the 18 years I have lived here that this house has been hit. There have been a few families who lived there though. I hope nobody was hurt...from what I could tell there were no ambulances and it doesnt seem like it made it inside the actual house. All I know is there is no way I would ever live in this house...or any house at the end of a long street like that. Scary seeing that thats for sure!! Luckily this time the guy did not hit the telephone and power pole...last time we were without power for almost a day and without telephone for almost 3 days!!

My husband said he was going to walk down and see if anyone is outside. I feel really bad for the people who live there because they have been working really hard to fix the house up and they put up lights and reflectors and still people run through the fence into their yard. I told my husband they should put up some concrete barriers or something. The house I used to live in as a kid had a house at the end of a road like that where you have to either turn left or right and it has been hit that I know of like five times and we went past there a few weeks ago and I saw they finally had to put up some concrete barriers in their yard.
 
Im thinking it is one of three things...either the person was racing which is a common practice on this road because it is a long straight road which is usually slow this late at night, they were drunk/on drugs, or they were sleeping. Not sure how they could doze off in such a short time because the speed limit is 45 so it only takes about 3 minutes to get from the highway to the end of the road.
 
anytime i see a house like that or close to a busy street i always wonder how oftne stuff like that happens. it just looks unsafe. poor people. sooo glad no one was killed!
 
we live in a semiural area so it doesnt happen as often as I think it would if it was in the city. It doesnt make alot of sense to me though to build a house directly at the end of a main road.
 
In the town I grew up in there was this one hill that was really steep and about half way down, the road curves and a house is where the road would be if it went straight. Those people have tried all sorts of things, but it has been hit numerous times. It happens the most when its icy since the road is so steep. I would be nervous to have a house like that, too. I hope no one was hurt.
 
That's awful and brings alot of bad memories for me. My uncle was killed when a drunk driver plowed through his bedroom wall in the middle of the night. She (the driver) must have been going close to 100 mph according to the police, because she hit 2 signs, a small tree, and my uncle's home was about 8 feet higher than street level. I scrapped one of the photos here.
One of the neighbors told us that it was probably the 3rd time that someone had hit that home...although it wasn't at a dead end or anything. The ppl that moved into the house after him ended up putting fencing of staggered telephone poles that were about 2-3' tall (well, they looked like telephone poles anyway LOL) all around that corner of the yard.
Sorry for the ramble...this is one of a handful of topics that I have a tendency to talk to pieces.
 
Wow that is really sad Stacy!! Im sorry for your loss. Drunk driving is one of those topics that really piss me off because I have had people in my life taken to early by a drunk driver. I feel like it is one of the most selfish things a person can do is drunk driving. Even just one drink if you are driving is too many!!
 
I saw it on the news at 12:00 today and the lady who lives there said everyone in the house is ok. The guy who was driving the truck though was airlifted to the hospital. Im not sure why he hit the house as they did not say much about the condition he was in but Im guessing it isnt good considering they had to airlift him.
 
Wow thats nuts! I am glad to hear that no one was hurt but having to repair that kind of damage esp in this economy must be super hard :( My heart goes out to them. I agree it sounds like some kind of concrete barrier or something is def in order.
