Would you take the camera?

We have tickets to a minor league or some kinda not major but not kiddy baseball game today. Hubby got them free from his work (YAY!) but the seats are right at first base. He says a good place to get hit by a foul ball. Of course I'd rather let the ball crack me in the skull that touch the camera and will protect it with my life.....:p and I am dying to try out the sports type shooting modes with that 200mm lens. I've never been to a "real" baseball game before. What do you think? Risk it? I'm leaning towards that. I'll just throw my head forward or something in case I see a ball coming. Concussion- OK. Lens crack- NOT OK. know what I mean? :D
 
I take my camera pretty much everywhere with me, so yeah I would definitely take it! I haven't been to a ball game since I got my XTi last summer but I would take mine. Just be prepared to duck & cover just in case lol!
 
I have two cameras. I have my pricey Canon Digital Rebel XTi and I also have a very cool Olympus SW 1030. The Olympus is really cool because it is waterproof up to ten feet and shockproof up to five feet, I think. It actually takes really nice pictures. I bought it specifically to take to the beach next week, because I don't want to take my good camera down to the beach for two reasons. I don't want it stolen and don't want it to get damaged. Now I have a cool little compact camera I can take with me anywhere to get those cool shots, even if I don't have my Canon, :)
 
We went to a game recenty and I took the camera- got some GREAT pics- well worth the foul risk! I did find myself ducking on occasion though! LOL!
 
I take mine all the time and I've never had a problem. Honestly, that would have to be a perfect hit for the ball to not only come directly to you but so close that it would hit exactly your camera. :D I'd say take it and enjoy yourself. :thumbup:
 
We just went to a minor league game last weekend and were inbetween home plate and first base. Fortunately no foul balls but yes I brought the camera! The zoom lens is great for men in tight pants games! :)
 
I would definitely take my camera! You can store your camera under your seat when it's not in use (maybe bring a bag you don't care about so if it's grimey under there it's not a big deal). I think the risk is fairly small. I don't know how the field is set up, but most have protective netting in that area, so unless there is some weird foul that goes over the netting.
 
It's funny Amy, I'm actually having the same dilemna. We are going to a game on the Fourth of July and I really want to take my camera but of course I'm worried about the hassel of having it to lug around (my Canon with the Tamron lens is not light by any means). And of course, I hate risking it getting damaged.
 
If you're not into the actual baseball game and want the photos, take the camera!!! great place to practice action shots!!! Of course I only have a point and shoot so when I wasn't holding it, it was in the cup holder beside me.

I stand on the bench or in the penalty box at hockey games and photograph. Pucks are cold, hard and can fly really fast! Just keep an eye on the action and you and the camera will be fine.

You can miss a lot of great shots by being overprotective of your camera. Cameras and lenses can be replaced, but that moment you didn't capture because you didn't have your camera can never be replaced.
