Would you buy a Wii?

My DH and I always buy ourselves something at Christmas, something we can share or we both want, or something for the house (like new furniature) and then a few little things for each other. This year, DH *really* wants a Wii. Neither of us have ever been video game people, we don't own any other video game systems, and our children are little (3 and not quite 1) so they wouldn't play with it.

So I'm wondering...
Does your family have a Wii?
What games are good?
What about a Wii fit - do you enjoy it?

I can't say I'm totoally sold on the idea, but I got a great camera last year for Christmas, so I guess it's DH's turn to pick! *LOL* :p

Yes! We've got one and we've all had a lot of fun with it! :) It really is good for the whole family. Our 3 year old even plays when she can. She isn't great but she has fun doing it. :)

Our favorite games are MarioKart, Big Brain Academy & Guitar Hero.

I still haven't tracked down a WiiFit for myself but my sister and my friend both have it and say it's great! :)

we had one. we never played it much after getting a PS3. So Chad took it to GameStop and sold it. I tried to convince him not too (i was really the only one that played it) but he insisted, lol. oh well.

To me, if you're not typically gamers, then a Wii might just sit on the shelf.

HOWEVER, we have a Wii and play it all the time. And your 3yo CAN play the Wii. The sports pack has stuff that even the wii-est kids can play :)

We have too many too list, but favs are Sports, Mario Kart, Super Mario Galaxy, Olympics, Big Brain Acadmy, and a ton of old Nintendo/Gamecube games you can buy off Wii online.

We'd love WiiFit, but haven't saved the money for it, yet. However, Iron Chef America is coming out next month...and we can't wait! LOL (yes, we're total, total geeks).

Yes! It's our planned family gift for this year, lol! I just hope we can actually find one once we have the money for it!!!

We love our Wii, honestly it was the best money we have ever spent!!

The games we play together most, are Wii Play and Wii Sports (which comes with it)... We also have a Mario game we play, but cannot remember the name off the top of my head!

I would love Wii fit!

We got one in June (Father's Day gift) and love it. I was never a video game person, but I love it. Our 3 year old like to try some of the games. Our Christmas gift to each other this year will be WiiFit.

I vote YES! It is not like your typical video game system. It really does have something for everybody and something that the whole family can do together. Also, the kids don't want to mindlessly play the Wii for hours because it takes some physical energy to play.

For the family to play together, we play Wii Sports, Carnival Games and Mario Cart. If you guys like music, a lot of people enjoy Guitar Hero(is that the right game?).

I am thinking of getting one for my parents too. My sister has the Wii fit and she loves it.

We've never been a gaming family either... never owned a system... but we are talking about getting a Wii for Christmas too. I've played it with friends and it's fun... plus, they have the new Wii Fit now too. I know my girls (6 & 8) would love it.

Yes! We love our Wii and Wii Fit! We love several games but the ones my youngest can play and have fun with is Wii Sports, Wii Play, Wii Carnival. They aren't really too hard for the little ones and they have a ton of fun. I absolutely love my Wii Fit! Finally a way for me to be able to exercise while still having fun and it doesn't take much space.

I don't have one, though I wouldn't mind, I've played some fun games on my sister's wii. LOL, but-my MOM who doesn't normally like video games looooooves the wii. She plays with my sister's kids all the time! Is there anyone you know well who has one that would let you try out a few of their games before you go buy your own?

We have a Wii and we all love it. My kids were 3 & 5 when we got it and the younger one could totally play the sports games. I'm not into video games, but I have fun when we play together as a family. We've had friends over and twice now we've converted our friends to the Wii (who were both anti-video games before). Anyway, it's just a really fun family game system.

Lindy.. we are in the same boat. Our sons are 3 and 7 weeks and we have never been gaming people, but I want a Wii really badly. I think it's the hype and craze I have read about, plus my younger brother (who's 31 and isn't a gamer either) just got one and loves it!! I was telling DH this is what we should get each other for Christmas too. The trick is.. finding one!!

We have a Wii, and we play Guitar Hero (the kids dance and sing) we play bowling which our 4 year old plays too, and tons of others. It really can be kid friendly, and good for some mindless family fun. We love ours.

We love our Wii! I am NOT a gamer, but DH is, so he plays Paper Mario and Zelda, and other role-playing games. We both play Guitar Hero and Mario Kart.

We LOVE LOVE LOVE Wii FIT! It's so fun for all of us. We have two DDs, almost 4 and almost 2. My older DD plays it tons, and it will really help this winter when the weather is yucky. My younger DD isn't too interested in it yet, but she will watch every so often.

Start looking NOW for a Wii and Wii Fit. They are hard to find. ;)

We have a Wii and Wii Fit. It gets a lot of use, though it's hardly been used this past month since school started. DS2 just started playing it again this week.

I love WiiFit & can't wait for Iron Chef to come out. We own Mario Kart, Play & Sports. For a long time Mario Kart was a constant play, it's only recently that Sports has come back into rotation. We also rent games from Blockbuster. Our favorites have been Lego Star Wars, Lego Indiana Jones and Wall-E. The boys are 4 and 5. They can't read the on screen hints, prompts, & instructions but they can manage 85-90% of the game by themselves. Cars and Mater National were very popular as well, especially with DS2 who really likes just driving everywhere

We have one and love it

I was just at Target to get my son a new game for his bday (he wanted a ds game though not a wii lol) and they had a few Wii's and some Wii Fit..so if anybody is looking now, check your target!

Am I the only one here who doesn't have one nor has anyone she knows that does have one to try, lol? My circle of real life friends is VERY small, esp any that live close by (and no, no sibs on either side), and they don't have one among those I do know.

We love ours, the whole family plays (4 -42). We just have the sports and Olympics. We have Wii play and its ok, but I'd not spend money on it.

Brooke, we don't have one and I haven't tried one.. just 'heard' it's loads of fun from my brother who just got his last week

lol we have two...

To make a long story short:

Keep checking Craig's list. You'll get a feel for what's a good deal, and you have to catch it right away to buy it.

The first one we bought was pretty much brand new, but it only had one controller, and dh thought it was too much trouble to buy just a controller, so he bought another Wii instead. It's a little older, but it came with Wii Sports, Super Mario Galaxy, and Super Smash Brothers, which are all games we wanted anyway. The other one we would only play Wii sports with it.

So now we're going to sell the one that's in better condition, but we are waiting until a little closer to Christmas because we hope to make our whole Wii buying phase cost as little as possible. We had a few bites on Craig's list, but only people who wanted to pay $100 less for it, even though we are selling it for about what we bought it for!

By the way, we love it! And if you play boxing it gives you a pretty good arm workout! like Tae Bo!

Not ALL games require much of a workout though. Super Smash Brothers doesn't require much, neither does Super Mario Galaxy. I love playing the sports though! My BIL had Wii Fit but decided to sell it because he was always sore. lol! Isn't that the point?

You're not the only one! I don't think anyone we know has one either. My friends all have young kids and aren't really at the video game phase of childhood yet, and many of them put pretty strict limits on kids tv and other "screen time." My brother and sister are single NYers who like to go to the gym and have time to do it, so no WIIs for them.

I went to the doctor this evening (see my other post tonight titled GROSS if you want to know why - but really, I'm sure you don't! *LOL*) and when my husband came to pick me up, guess what? He had bought a Wii! (I sent him to Costco to buy chicken and bread - and he said they were just putting out the very last Wii and he grabbed it!)
I told him I thought we were getting this for ourselves for Christmas. The answer - yes, and we'll get some extra games and maybe the wheels or something to open Christmas day! *LOL*
So NOW DH is downstairs 'golfing' and I'm going to go join him. Looks like fun. I guess we are going to be a Wii family after all. :)

Oh you will love having it!! Don't play too long cause you will be so sore the next day. LOL!! Bowling did me in so bad the first day we had. We love playing Wii Sports, Mario Kart, Carnival Games and Rock Band!! I am trying to get the Wii Fit, they just keep selling out every where.

We have one, but I'm pretty certain my son's first word was xbox...he's been playing video games since before he was 2. So, I don't know if I'm a good judge about that. We enjoy it...Michael (dh) was totally sore after playing it for the first time. I love the Wii Fit!
