Would it be out of line...

Okay, I'm putting my kitty up for adoption and hoping that once she's out of the house that my itchies will go away for good. So I posted an ad for her on Kijiji and have had 3 inquiries for her.

First one was a guy and all his message said was "I want your cat. Call me ___-____". So I was like Nooooo way. I got none of those "fuzzy, my cat is getting a good home" vibe from that, in fact it creeped me out a bit. So candidate #1 was vito-ed.

The second and third messages were obviously women by the way they gushed about how cute Willow was, but neither left their names, which I found a little odd personally. They just signed using their username.

So I can't decide who to give her to. I'd like more information about where Willow may be going to live, and so comes my question:

Would it be out of line to ask them about their home, why they want her, do they have kids, etc?? I want to make sure that she goes to a loving home and how can I know that if they give me ZERO information? All that there messages said was "she's so cute, blah blah gush gush, is she still available?".

Thoughts anyone??

Go ahead and ask...that way if they're interested they can continue with the process..and if not, they won't write back. Any agency would do the same thing.

your cat, your perogative. Ask as many questions as you want to ask. Anyone that truly wants to give your cat a good home won't mind answering your questions. :)

DEFINITELY reply back and ask!! If they really want her, they'll understand and be more than willing to answer your questions. If they don't want to answer, then she shouldn't go to them anyway.

Oh good! I just didn't want to hand her off to a complete stranger, kwim?

What kind of questions should i ask do you think? I've never adopted out a pet before... if you were going to, what would you ask?

have you ever had a cat before? do you want an indoor cat or an outdoor cat (or both)? what age are your kids (if any)? Do you have ANY other pets? What do you do with your pets when you vacation/travel/etc?

If they've had pets before. If yes, are they still there, if they aren't there what happened to them.
Are there children in the house, would it be an indoor or outdoor cat, are they able to pay for unexpected vet bills.

If these people were adopting thru the Humane Society they would have to fill out a whole form of questions so I'd see no problem with them answering questions to you!

Oh and just put in in Col or Jenny's head and that's what I'd ask! I might ask what kind of neighborhood they live in too if it's going to be let outdoors but I'm also the kind of person who only owns indoor cats!

I'm so sad you have to get rid of Willow! :( If I wasn't so allergic, I'd take her...lol...Natalie would LOOOVE a kitty! As it is, I think I'm going to bring Elvis into the house...that should be interesting, but I'll probably be on anti-histamines regularly once he comes in...

Dogs are different than cats though Bree... lots of people who have allergies to cats aren't allergic to dogs... maybe it won't be so bad!

I would defo reply and ask. Here in Brazil it's very common to ask these questions before adopting a cat. For ex. if a possible adopter lives in an apartment, the one adopting out the cat will ask if there´s safety net on the windows.
So I think it's very normal to ask these :)
