I need help in a couple weeks it will be my son's kindergarten class's turn to do a hot lunch for the whole school (not huge 100-130 kids I believe)

Hot dogs
tacos
spaghetti
mac-n-cheese

these are all done pretty regularly

we thought about sloppy joes (but lots of prep work or so it seems)

loved the idea of pizza, but kind of expensive

see the thing is the school doesn't have a hot lunch program so on Friday's each grade (their parents) take turns doing hot lunch and they charge $3 and use the extra $$$ made over expenses for field trips and other fun stuff for the classroom...

We are searching for some ideas...............

What kind of ideas do you guys have for me?

THANK YOU,
Kim

Coming from a small school environment I can understand the value in this type of event. We have a local store that helps us out with deals for kids lunches but this is a nice way of including the school community in the process!
If you are serving in coolish whether then Soup might work well with some freshly baked crusty bread. You could run 2 or 3 different types to satisfy different tastes - soups easy to prepare and reheat and you can serve it in mugs.
Another option would be any kind of casserole or stew served with steamed rice - if you have access to a rice cooker that would work really well.
The only other I can think of would be jaffles - or some form of toasted sandwich or focacia - that ones a bit hard to prepare ahead of time but if you had a few people with the large cafe grills/sandwich presses then you could keep up the demand - anything with cheese is yummy this way (ham/ tomato/ chicken, creamed corn etc)
Thats all I have at the moment!

yummmm yeah chicken noodle soup or veggie soup and grilled cheese sandwiches..if you have a foreman grill or something you can cook a few at a time on there!

What a fun idea! The kids at our school love the baked potato bar. You can then have chili and grated cheese and what not. We have also made up chicken nuggets for kiddie potlucks before. The kids all like those.

We used to get a meal they called "American Chop Suey" that is easy to make and delish. Basically, it's macaroni, ground beef, sauteed onions, tomato sauce and mozarella baked on top. Easy peasy.

My kids enjoy this thing they call a "Taco in a Bag"?
It's a thing of corn chips with taco meat and cheese. They also really love the Mini Corn Dog days.

Actually if you have access to the ovens, making pizza yourself is not that expensive.

Oh and my kids enjoy "Breakfast for Dinner". You could make it "Breakfast for Lunch". Serve Waffles and eggs? HTH

THis was my thought. I worked in the middle school cafeteria. I can tell you that chicken noodle soup is a huge hit. They didn't grill the cheese, it was toasted/ baked on a cookie sheet. So you spray the bread with pam spray, add cheese, another bread and spray again. I am not sure about the time/temp. But I could find out. I prefer tomatow soup with my grilled cheese. But a nice tomatow base and maybe some veggies thrown in is good for dietary requirements. Like I said, it was always a big hit. Soup days were my busiest because I kept having to make up more cups.

Our school does the hot lunches too, once a month...the grade 1 class is this month and we're supposed to do chili. Last year there was hot dogs one month, and there were subs (kids got to choose between ham&cheese and pizza subs beforehand) another month. I can't remember what all there was, honestly...
