Working Out Questions

Okay, so... I only gained 7lbs with this last pregnancy because of the gestational diabetes diet they had me on. But I still had on about 28lbs from my first baby when I got pregnant. (they're almost 17 months apart)

When I came home from the hospital with Phin, I was actually under my pre-pregnancy weight. (I was 120 when I got pregnant with Yorick, gained 60lbs while pregnant with him, was down to 148 when I got pregnant with Phin, got to 155 when I gave birth, and was at 138 when I came home.)

I'm back up to 150.

I need to workout. I loathe working out. I don't like breathing hard or sweating, it annoys me.

How do you girls who workout motivate yourselves? I want to get back down to 120. Or does that just never happen after 2 kids?

OH, i hope we find the answer here! My kids are 3 1/2 and almost 1 {how did that happen?!}, and I can't for the life of me figure out how to get regular exercise into my life. My husband says he'll watch both kids at the same time when they're both potty trained, so that's not much help right now. :(

My concern isn't as much for losing weight, but i really do want to be healthy and it wouldn't hurt to lose this gut that makes my husband say, "you sure you should eat that?" every time I pop an ice cream ball into my mouth.

{oh, and my husband isn't a total jerk, he just acts like one sometimes, rofl}

When I exercise it is the only time during that day that I don't have to worry about my kidlet and I can just listen to music and daydream or just daze. I have an elliptical machine and I alternate doing 30 minutes and an hour. For that whole time I just get to be alone! That is my motivation and it seems to be working well. I would be at my goal weight if I could stop eating or eat healthier. I'm working on that last 5 pounds lol!

Good luck!

Good luck. I find it hard to stay consistant. I love to just pop in a yoga or pilates DVD and spend an hour that way...but it's hard not to have interruptions. I also have a bike, but it's in the basement and I have a hard time going down there alone.

What about a gym? Do you have one nearby w/ childcare?

I have about 30 lbs to loose after my two kids... I've gained 20 since I had my son, (how, I do not know!) now nine months, since I just can't find the time to get out and exercise. I've got a friend that I'm going to be walking with this fall, two mornings a week (but I have to be back at the house for 7:00 so my husband can leave for work! So it's gonna be EARLY).
Do you have any friends you can go do something fun with? Like play tennis or go for a walk (even a brisk walk in a mall while you window shop?) regularly? THat might help the motivation.
Oh, I also used to LOVE aqua fit classes - I went to the university near me for those, because the music was fun and it was all younger people, and we're all underwater most of the way so no one can see my ugly flab, and I don't feel sweat since I'm all wet!!!

I have no suggestions, just to let you know that another person is in the same boat as you. i am trying to save gas, too, so I have found that walking whenever possible is giving me more opportunities for exercise and it wears my kids out, too! Good luck!

I joined a gym. They have a variety of classes including weights, resistance, yoga & aerobics, plus lots of machines. They also have childcare. I go 2-3x a week. It gives me a nice variety of things to do, the kids are taken of & the grocery store & library are in the same shopping plaza so I can get several things done in one trip.

I also have a wii fit and use it 2-3x a week as well. You just thave to start doing it and keep doing it for several weeks to get the habit. I hated working out when I started, but I like to eat more than I hate to work out. Dieting was out of the question, so I had to suck it up and do it. 2 years later, I actually enjoy it.

do yoga! when i'm not feeling the eliptical. i hit up a yoga class. totally a workout. when done properly you will really feel yourself toning up! extra bonus: it's relaxing and you don't feel like your working out- AT ALL!

Since I don't have kids, I won't be able to help about the organisational part of it, but the best way to be consistent is to a) find something fun (to you, that is): running is ok, but with your fav music or a book in your iPod, or walking with a friend and chat, or playing a game, anything as long as you enjoy it. b) set up workout appointements that you won't cancel, even though the appointements are just between you and yourself c) tweak your routine whenever you get bored and / or reach a plateau. Have fun!!

I have lost 30 pounds in the past 2 years just from eating healthier options and smaller portions, with the odd walking thrown in. Cause I loathe exercise as well. It takes time away from me being on the computer and playing video games on the XBox 360. lmao

Yes, I think it's SO possible to be back down to a pre-baby weight after two kids! In fact, I weigh 20 lbs LESS than I did when I got married, and my kiddos are 3 and 1.

So my thing is working out consistently. I approached it as "my new favorite hobby". For me, I joined 24 hour fitness. I went with my sister, and it was encouraging knowing that she was looking for me every morning. I avoided childcare and went before DH went to work. My favorite was spin class (easily burns 500 calories, sometimes more). I also LOVE yoga class.

I do Wii Fit for the strength training and yoga. That is easy to get my kids involved with, so we "play" it during the day.

Good luck!!

The most efficient way to lose weight is probably through cutting back on calories. If you can create a 300 calorie deficit per day, you can lose about 1 lb every two weeks. You can choose what's easier for you. Giving up a piece of bread would be around 80-100 calories. Running a mile burns 100 calories. Whichever sounds easier to you will probably be the most effective.

I have about 10 lbs to lose myself. I prefer to work out because I like the endorphins from it, and I LOVE to eat. I don't cut any specific foods out, but I approach it from a portion-control standpoint.

I go to the gym and I go early before everyone else is up and for me that menas I'm at the gym when they open their doors at 5am. My kids wake anytime from 5.30am-6am so DH gets them breakfast and starts to get them dressed. I do that 3 days a week and we take turns going to the gym on the weekend.

im a gym girl too! at the moment i eat too much to actually loose any weight, but it keeps me fit and healthy. i just like to eat alot! and id be putting ON weight if i didnt go. I gotta say yoga is the absoute best. I dont really see it as a massive calorie burner, but oh my gosh, if u do it properly, it tones! and its leaves you feeling so lovely.

but to be honest, the biggest motivator ive had in loosing weight in the past, is actually seeing the numbers go down. Once u start loosing a few kilos (or pounds whichever lol) then i start thinking, oh god, im not eating that cos i dont want to wreck all my hard work!

For me to go to the gym before Jeff left for work would mean going at 1 am. So.. I don't go. LOL I need to lose weight too. I think I still have weight on from Abby. LOL And I really adore bread.... so......
