So last night I took off to the city to buy myself a new computer tower. I walked into Best Buy with a specific one in mind (the cheapest one, lmao), and right next to the one I'd picked out there was an "open item" tower on for 1/2 price - only $240! Before I went in, I was worried about switching to Vista - well, the open one had XP on it still. But, everything else about it was BETTER than the one I'd picked out (which was $400). Well, except that it only has 1GB of RAM, but I asked the guy if the RAM I bought for my Dell a couple months ago would fit and he said yes, so I can upgrade it easily - no money out of my pocket, lol!

Anyhow, I'm busy setting it up. It came with XP Media Center Edition - I had NO idea how much came with XP in this version...dang! I honestly thought when I first started the computer that whoever returned it (I'm pretty sure it's returned and refurbished - but it could have been just used in the store before the new models came out) forgot to remove all their stuff, lol!

My Dell is one of those slim ones, it's about 1/2 the size of most computers - well this one is HUGE in comparison. I had my Dell sitting on top of my desk...I'm going to have to rethink that with this one, cause it takes up WAY too much space, lmao!

But, it's SO nice to have a computer that WORKS, dudes. Like, seriously!

Oh cool! That's GREAT news! I know you were worried about Vista (you big chicken), so I'm glad you found one with XP and saved some money in the process! Yay Bree!

That's great Bree! Love it when I find great deals like that! I am needing a new tower and this makes me want to just go check at my Best Buy now although I know there won't be one like that! Congrats!

Dude, you can get rid of your Dell! (Remember the old "Dude, you're getting a dell ads? Sorry - couldn't resist after you used "dude" and "Dell" in your post.)

Congrats on the great deal!

Woohoo!

Now I'm worried... I just got a Dell.

You know what...I loved my Dell for 3 years, lol. I only had a couple minor problems and I worked my machine HARD, lol (I was on dialup, so I would have the computer on all day to work on, and it would download all night - it would get restarted only every few days, and it was never off). I have a 4 year warranty and right at the 3 year mark everything started going downhill on it. Up until the last couple months (I have 4 months left on my warranty, btw), Dell was really great about sending someone out to fix my problems...but since I wasn't really getting errors, Dell's tech support (in India) can't figure out what is wrong with it. That's the only frustrating part...I could just take it in to Geek Squad, but I know it's under warranty from Dell, so why would I pay to have a diagnostic run on it when Dell should be helping me, kwim.

I'm happy to just go with Best Buy/Geek Squad this time around - this way if I have trouble, I just take it in and they look after it, lol. Much easier than trying to deal with tech support in a totally different country over the phone.

But, I did get good use out of the Dell, lol...it did well for all that I put it through, lol!
