Will it come in time?

I'm so new to potty training, because Nathaniel the wonder child potty trained himself and spoiled me :p I've been dreading when Naomi came to this age because I knew it couldn't be that easy with every child. (Just one day he started going in the potty and never looked back!)

So I had no intentions of pushing training on her, until about 10 days ago when she refused to keep a diaper on. We've been using the method where you have a party when she goes in the potty, and taking her every 20 minutes or so. She caught on very quickly to the peeing and is having very few accidents..she really enjoys her treat when she potties!

I'm still putting diapers on her if we go out (with her panties UNDER the diaper, a method I read might work) and I'm putting diapers on her at night, but so far, she hasn't pooed in the potty yet.

She's only 2 years and 2 months so I'm not concerned, but how do I proceed from here? Will she just catch on one day?
 
She might. She' still pretty young to be potty training and your luck thusfar might be just that: Luck. Then again, she might just be one of those kids that is ready earlier than most. I would just keep doing what you're doing. At the first sign of resistance, back off. Then ease back into it again. But let her call the shots for now.

Oh, and don't be afraid to bribe her. :p
 
I have no clue. I always thought it would be more uncomfortable to have a wod of poo in your pants. lol Good luck, I'll be interested in seeing what others advise.
 
yeah, I think it's a comfort thing. She really doesn't poo in her panties much, she waits until I put a diaper on her for nap, outing, or night night. I know that must mean she's uncomfortable pooing in the potty for now..I'm just wondering if time is what it will take.

It's a trip that she appears to be peepee toilet trained! I can only remember 1 accident this week...soooo surreal!
 
She'll get there eventually. Keep doing what you're doing, keep encouraging her without pushing her, and she'll get there. Jenny's right that Naomi's pretty young. There's plenty of time!

Ya, I never had any intention of potty training this early. Nathan did his thing at 2 yrs, 7 months, so I was going to wait until around then. This was def. child-led potty training!:huh:
 
Kaden is finally potty trained....for the most part. He still waits till bedtime for poopies most of the time. I think it is just a matter of when they feel comforatable with it. Sounds like she is doing a great job tho!!
 
there is a window around this age when you can catch their interest in the potty and train them. most people miss it cause they think their child is too young. plus, girls are waaay smart. :D

i potty trained at 19 months or something ridiculous. i ripped my diaper off one day and never looked back.

maddie kinda did the same thing right after 24 months. she potty trained in one weekend of us taking her to the potty every 20 mins. she got sick of us asking her so she just started to go on her own.

sounds like your doing all the right things. i'm one of those crazy moms who doesn't take no for an answer from my children regardless of age so i would say...keep doing it. i should click. you never know how long it will take. but if she is taking off her diaper there is reason there to do what your doing!!

I did the nekid potty training with Ava. We put her own little Dora potty in the living room (kinda gross, but it worked) and she was using it for pee and poo by 20 months. I was prego with Lilly and didn't want to have 2 kids in diapers (for my own sanity and cost wise). She is almost 2 1/2 and is now using the "big potty" on her own. Now, we are taking this in steps. We went from nekid potty girl in the living room, to long dress no undies on the big potty, and we will do undies next month, and pants and undies the next month. She still has trouble with getting her clothes on and off, and I don't want accidents to cause set backs for her.
 
Could it be that she just doesn't know that poo goes in the toilet and that is why she is doing it in her diaper? Maybe anytime she goes, take her in the bathroom and put it in the toilet and tell her that is where it goes...
 
Both my girls were that age when I started training them and I did exactally what you are doing except we went every 30 minutes no matter where we were...even if we were driving and the timer went off we stopped and went (yes I traveled with a little potty in my van :D) and both my girls caught on with a matter of days!!!! We still did diapers/pull ups at night for several months until I decided I had had enough and I just took them away....my oldest had quite a few accients and I washed sheets almost every night but she eventually learned!!!

As for the pooping...I think they really just did it on accident one time and I made such a huge deal out of it that they just started going in the potty......even though she had the peeing down I would still contiunue with the "timely" sit downs (maybe every two hours) and she will get the hang of it!!!

I agree!!! My oldest ds caught on to peeing quickly...but there was something about the other that "scared" him and he tried to hold it in...after 2 trips to the doctor with him so constipated he was crying from pain... for him to tell us that our son was afraid that his body was falling apart...he encouraged us to back off and just let it come in it's own time. Sure enough...when he was ready...he told us.
 
She should catch on. If she goes in her panties though taking her in the potty and emptying it in the toilet and having her flush it might make it click for her. Once my kids started actually showing an interest in going they caught on pretty quickly. My daughter was kinda like your son and took like a week to be trained.
