So, Jaime and I have never been into gaming so we've never, in the 16 years we've been married, owned any type of gaming system. Now that we have kids old enough to play and because stuff is getting SO advanced and cool, we're now talking about investing in one (I LOVE GUITAR HERO!).

In your opinions, which system is the best and why?

We have a Wii, but we've always been a Nintendo family. That's what my brother Steve and I had growing up, and I had after I was a grown up LOL (NES, SNES, N64, Gamecube and now Wii LOL).

I love the Wii because some of the games are so physically involved. I know doing the boxing, etc, I get sore muscles from working out, and I like that about it.

Again, we've always been Nintendo fans, so I didn't even really consider anything else, my Mom has a PS2 and loves it LOL

ETA you can play against your friends online on the Wii also.

I vote Xbox, but only if you are going to sign up for online access. My boys are home way more since we have an Xbox because they can still play with their friends online. Also, you don't ever "beat" the game because when you play online, it's always different. My DH plays Call of Duty 3 exclusively and has been for almost 2 years.

We also have a Wii, but it doesn't get used nearly as much as the Xbox.

Just for reference, my boys are 16, 14, 10, 10 - they 2 olders ones hardly touch the Wii, but the 2 younger ones do.

One reason to get the PS3 is if you want to get into Blu-Ray discs as the PS3 plays them.

HTH!

If it's little kids, I say the Wii. If it's older kids, then the PS3. Huge bonuses of the PS3 ... it can go online (it has a built in web browser, IM feature, access to the Sony store, etc - for the XBox, to go online, you must have an XBox Live account, which costs money, the Sony online account does not), has wireless controllers included (XBox doesn't, you have to purchase them seperately) , and it doubles as a BluRay DVD player. It gets far more use in our house than either the Wii or the XBox 360.

Yes, we have all three systems. lol We keep the PS3 downstairs with our 41" tv and stereo components, for hubby, myself and our teenage son and all his friends. The XBox 360 and the Wii are upstairs, on the kids TV, although we all play these systems as well.

I will say that there are far more "kid" games for the Wii than the others, but it is always a changing market.

We have all..my DH likes the xbox best..I prefer the Wii as do the kids..but for his gaming he likes the XBox

I have a PS2 and have had it since it was in the so new its impossible to find phase. I like it, but have been wanting a Wii. I played it once and it was lots of fun.

I think if you've never been gamers and your kids are younger, the Wii will probably be the best choice for you.

Alternatively, the PS3 is a pretty serious entertainment system that you can watch movies on, view Blueray movies if you want, go online and surf the web, etc. You can't watch movies on the Wii, so if that matters to you, it's something to consider.

We have a Wii. I'm a Nintendo geek, but even if I wasn't, I just love how active and involved the Wii games are. There's something for everyone, no matter their age. We will probably be getting a PS3, and possibly an XBox eventually, but my first choice was and always will be the Wii.

If your kids are older, you might want to find out which systems most of their friends have so they can play together.

We have a PS3. I haven't used the other two so I can't really compare. But I do like the fact that the PS3 can play Blu-Ray discs (the quality is amazing). My husband is always getting online and downloading games from the Sony site for really cheap. You can also download trial version of games and try them out before you buy them.

I know PS3 is starting to get into the interactive gaming too (like the Wii). We have an interactive Bowling game that my husband plays all the time. My son says it is better than the Wii version, but I wouldn't have a clue because I haven't played either.

My only experience is with the Wii. We love ours. I've never been into gaming, but I enjoy the games on the Wii. Our son, Jamin (3.5 years), loves to play some of games that came with the console although he is still getting the hang of the controller. Just earlier this week, we got the Wii Fit and have had a lot of fun with it. DH and I use it to work out. Jamin loves it too. For the running exercises you basically run in place and watch yourself 'run' around the island on the screen. Jamin loves it. He just runs in place forever watching things go by on the screen. I let him 'play' for 30 minutes or so in the evenings - gets him nice and tired :)

I haven't had any experience with XBox or PS3...only the Wii and I absolutely LOVE IT!! I love it because it's very interactive and it gets you moving :)

My husband and I have never ever been gamers, but we bought a Wii for ourselves as our Christmas gift. :) WE bought a few different games, and the Wii fit, which we'll save until Christmas, but we play with the Wii almost every day. Tennis is our favourite right now. We can play against each other, it's SO much fun but we do get sore arms. I get a little bit too into it. :)
Wii's are great if you are not gamers and used to the complex controls of the other systems. There are games for everyone (my husband can't wait to play NHL and I'm excited about Iron Chef...). Our three year old loves golf and bowling! *LOL* but we'll probably get her a dora or deigo game soon. You can also buy the classic control and go online with your Wii to download classic Ninendo games (like Mario World) they have a huge selection of fun games too, all $5-$10, online through the Wii. We're having a party here soon with some of our friends to play Wii - you can have four people playing some games at once! I can't really tell you what the others ones are like to compare - but I just wanted you to hear a vote from another non-gamer family that is really happy with the purchase!!

We have a PS2, PS3 and an Xbox 360, well they all belong to DH actually since he is the gamer in the family and the only one that plays them now. I would say the Xbox gets played the least, in fact we've had it just over a year and already had to send it back to Microsoft last month for a replacement unit because it died completely right before the warranty expired! The girls have occasionally asked for a Wii but DH isn't interested in getting one at all, which is fine with me cause I'd rather spend $$ on new camera stuff lol.

I am not gamery at all, and have none of the above, but wanted to say, that alot of our friends, have Wii's and we LOVE playing it, the games are so active, and a TON of fun!!!
Were talking about making a Wii our gift to each other this year for christmas!

Well, it really depends on your kids' and your preferences. We have an Xbox 360, a Wii and a PS2. We're considering getting a PS3, if the PS2 ever dies. My DH plays his Xbox almost every evening. He plays online with some of his friends and alone when he doesn't feel like dealing with other people. My DS loves the PS2. There are a lot of games that he enjoys playing and the controllers are smaller and fit his hands better. He's only 4. As a family, we like to play the Wii together. We like the interactive games that pit us against one another. My DD, who is 2, isn't very good at any of the games, but she likes to try and feel like she's getting to play too. So, a game of bowling might take a whole lot longer, but we still have fun. I, personally, enjoy playing the Wii even by myself. There's a lot of old school games we've downloaded and my DS and I like to play them. I'd look to see what games are available, what games you and your kids might like and then decide which console seems to be the best fit for your family.

Ditto what Lizzy said! We love our Xbox for "adult" games, such as all the Bond games, which I love. Our Nintendo systems (game cube and Wii) are for family games, such as Mario Kart, bowling, etc.

I just got a Wii from my hubby for my birthday, and I gotta say that we love it! I had been having fantasies about playing Star Wars games with the light-saber accessory  (geeky, I know), and so, Ross got me one! :w00t: We've been playing it alot in the few days we've had it!

we're an Xbox family. We've actually got the old Xbox in a bedroom and it'll play some of the older games like Spyro and Xmen for the kids. The 360 has games for everyone... Disney racing, Viva Pinata and others for the girls, Fable for me  and dh, and dh sometimes plays Halo online with his buddies too. we have a PS2 but it is collecting dust.

You may want to compare some of your favorite games before you settle on a console, some companies are selective with only releasing popular games on one console, not all of them.
