wierd saying

I was watching tv and heard this saying "smiling like you swallowed a canary" (or something like that??) Ive heard it before but never really got what it meant. Kinda a weird thing to say to me. Any idea what it means? why people say it?

It's probably like the cat that caught the canary.
I've always taken it to mean that the person got what they wanted, but they shouldn't have. (as in the cat shouldn't have eaten the canary, but what happy it did.)

Ohhhh ok now I get it...with that link it makes sense LOL. I was watching Family Feud and the host went over to the guy after the other family got three strikes and he looked kinda smug so he said that to him. Still think its a wierd saying but it makes a little more sense now LOL
