Why can't I use my arrows to move elements?

So, I just need to move some things a hair, but I can't do that with my mouse! But when I hit the arrow keys, it just moves the outline box in the styles/effects box. I did just upgrade to PSE 8, but that seems like a silly think to take away. Please tell me how I can make my arrow keys work? I can right? help!
 
Are you sure you've selected the transform tool (ctrl+T) before trying to use your arrows? Sometimes I forget to and this same thing happens w/ me.

Yes this....somewhere along the line (I think in PSE5 or 6) they changed the "nudge" feature. If you have used anything in the the styles/effects palette you can't nudge anything without hitting CTRL T....pain in the butt!!!! :thumbdown: I hate it so much that if I have to use the styles/effects palette....I do that first...save my LO and then close PSE6 and start over!!!! :D
 
thank you soooo much ladies! It actually started working when I went from effects to layer styles (just a coincidence though). I did NOT know about ctrl T.

I will love you all forever.
 
or in PSE 6 at least I can just click on the boxes as if I were resizing or rotating (which probably activates the transform tool), and then I can nudge with my arrows.
 
thanks guys! yes, I usually just click on my box for resizing, I didn't realized that ctrl t did the same thing.

I'm pretty sure I used to be able to nudge without having to do that, but I'll survive. :) Or maybe I'll zoom and use the mouse. ;)
