Well they've kind of rebooted the series with season 3, so there's a lot that's happened that isn't really relevant. But in seasons 1&2, Dani primarily worked for the NY Hawks, as did Nico (as head of security), and there was a bit of a love triangle going on between Dani, Nico and the athletic trainer/Asst. GM Matt. She and Matt were serious but he wanted kids and she didn't so they eventually broke up. She and Nico got closer during season 2, although they were never really together, Matt dated someone else, then towards the end of the season Dani & Matt were supposed to get back together. In the season finale we find out that Matt's ex-gf is pregnant which I assume is why he ends up married and leaves in the Season 3 premiere. They basically ended that love triangle without showing it, haha.
At the end of season 2, Nico was offered a job in Dallas but he seemed conflicted about taking it because of his feelings for Dani. But then he sees Matt and Dani kissing and assumes they're back together, so he takes the job and leaves. I can't remember, but I think he gets stopped at the airport by the FBI or something? Not totally sure, his character is kind of meant to be an enigma, haha. But that's why Dani is so surprised when she sees him working at V3 since as far as she knew, he'd left. So I'd say there's some unresolved tension/feelings there and it seems like they're setting it up for a John Stamos/Dani/Nico love triangle instead.
