of what designers prefer, I have a question. Recently I have heard of quite a few people getting CTs because they emailed the designer and asked them if they could join the designer's team. What do you think of that? Do you think its pushy? Would you consider it or just do it to not upset a customer?

Nope I don't mind it. Actually... a large part of my team was never part of any call :)
 
I think there's a big difference between emailing a designer and saying,
"I'm interested blah blah blah; if you have any openings blah blah blah"
and saying
"I want a spot on your team" or "can I be on your team?"

Its not personally my style to approach a designer, but thats just a personal thing. I don't know what designers think about it. I can imagine it puts them in a bit of an awkward situation but I don't know...

Designers? Care to weigh in?

ITA, but I am not a designer...so maybe not.

I have emailed or PM'd designers just to let them know I am a fan and I LOVE what they do. I always thought a designer would like that, lol! Maybe not??? :confused:

Well, crap, I really wanted to know your thoughts cause I have quite a few of your products (well, a bunch for someone who is new to SSD which is 4 kits and 2 albums). ;) Course, I doubt I would ever have the guts to email someone like that anyway. lol

nice :p LOL... I agree with what Jenny just said though -- there's a difference btwn a super super sweet email asking if I have any spots open.. and I don't know (making up a scenario) a creepy pushy stalker type email :D
 
What La said. I don't like it when people email and beg me..I'm a pushover, but the really sweet emails I heart :D

I did that once cause I got a bit over excited after unzipping the products. That designer has RAKed me twice since then, too. Not what I was looking for, but I assume she appreciated the email after that.
 
Personally, that is just something I don't know that I could do. I'd love to send an email to the designers here to let them know how much I love what they do, but I can do that here and not bug them with an email.

But, I am typically a shy person with a huge fear of not being liked - so it takes it out of me to send an email for a CT call -- much less flat out ask for a spot!
 
I never tried that myself, but I did post in the "who wants to be on a CT thread" at MSA. That's how I ended up on 2 of my teams.
 
I LOVE my fans and customers and ALWAYS love emails/PMs showing me layouts or telling me they love a product. ALWAYS. :)
 
i think in a sweet non-stalkerish way it would be ok to ask for a spot. especially if your really passionate to do a beautiful job promoting a designers product! in fact, if that is your only motive. i am just that way though, a go getter! i am a pretty straight forward non-beating around the bush type gal though...it's how i roll. i would also not ever be offended if i was told no. i can live with that.
 
I don't mind at all. I don't see it any different than a designer writing to a store owner asking if there might be an opening in their shop. I usually don't have any openings (for some reason my team members like to hang around), but I have picked up a team member or two this way.
 
I think I got my spot for Zoe that way (a looooong time ago! like when she first started designing.)I discovered digital stuff and her stuff was the first I ever purchased! Sent her an email, and always visited and commented on her blog... I started 'acting' like a CT even before I knew what that was really, by promoting her stuff whenever I got the chance. I think SHE told me she was having a CT call and to apply if I was interested! So I was kinda in by making contact, but I didn't ask to be on a CT.
 
I am too chicken to e-mail a designer asking for consideration on their team! I'm tempted to do it but never would want to put a designer on the spot like that. I have not been on a CT in over a year (because of school) and am ready to get back into it, but I know (or think in my mind anyway) that the designers I love probably don't need anymore peeps on their CT.

I think Kellie told Kay I wanted on her team haha and she invited me...talk abou shy! lol
 
I don't mind it as long as it's not like a pushy email. I have done it before, too...several times. Usually I just let them know I'm interested in a CT spot and would love to be considered if they ever have an opening. I've gotten a few "no's" but a few favorable responses, too... :)

I think I snagged 3 of my girls because they left a comment on my blog!
 
I definitely send messages to designers, however I don't ever flat out ask for a spot on their team. I usually just let them know that I love their designs and inquire about a possible ct or guest call in the future. I've been offered guest spots (a couple of which then offered me a full time spot), some have given me hints about when they're planning a call, others have RAKed me and some have just thanked me for being a fan. I don't think most designers mind (but then again I'm not a designer).. as long as you're not pushy.
 
I've done this three times.
The first time, I was offered a CT spot right away.
The second time, I was told that the designer appreciated my love of her stuff and to keep my eye out for a call in the coming weeks. And I actually made it on the team during the call, which rocked my socks and I wasn't expecting AT ALL.
The third time, I got no response, and then also heard nothing during a ct calls several weeks later.

So, I've had mixed results. But if you really love a product or designer, a nice "Just wanted to say that I LOVE this or that and am looking forward to your next call." sort of message can never go wrong :)
 
I can't imagine myself ever writing a designer, even though I really admired their designs. It's been hard enough applying to CTs as is. Self promotion is not something I do well,lol. More power to you girls who can do that.

hehehe, must be a "Meg(h)an" thang!!!! I'm a BIG CHICKEN!! And a worry-wart!
 
I'm too chicken poop to come out and ask. I'm usually too chicken poop to even submit for a CT call, although I did apply for one here. We'll see :)

But I would just be afraid the designer would be like, "Why is SHE wanting to be on my team? I mean, loko at her stuff, ack!" :D
