Which Ipod to buy?

As of right now I have $140 in Target Gift Certificates (thanks to their $10 GC coupons with new/transferred prescriptions)....I've been saving them up.

I am trying to decide whether to buy the Apple 3rd Generation 8GB iPod Touch - MC086LL/A ...or... Apple 5th Generation 8GB iPod Nano - Blue (MC037LL/A) for my 14yo ds for Christmas.

...there is a $50 difference in price...do you have one and wish you had the other...what are your thoughts please...

Thanks!

I have both. I love them both. I love the size of the Nano. I love the Touch because of everything that it can do. I love being able to access the internet. If you want him to be able to do a lot (add apps etc...) spend the extra money and get the iPod Touch. If he will strictly use it for music, then the Nano is fine ... and the size is more convenient, imho.

I have an iphone which is like the touch just the touch isn't a phone and I <3 it!!! I think your son would love love love it has fun apps and can text and have internet on it. (you'd have to be in a wifi area for net) If you don't want him to be all fancy then the nano would be fine..I'd spen the extra at this point though! esp if you have most of it in gc's anyways lol

I would go for the touch. I have one and as silly as it sounds, I can't imagine not having it, lol!! I definitely think it's worth it to just spend the 50 bucks more on the touch :)

My 14 yo ds has a touch and loves it tons and tons - has had it for a year now and its always with him. He had a nano before that - and the touch gets way more use.

The new nanos are pretty cool though - because they can record video.

It just depends on what you think he'll do with it. If he'll like to listen to music and play games and check his facebook, then the touch definitely. If he just wants to listen to music and take videos of his buddies, then the nano.

I'd go for the iTouch, it can do so much more than the Nano & he'd probably get more use out of it. Part of it is an aesthetics decision for me. I think the Nanos are too tiny. I like my electronics to have a cerrtain heft to them :)

We, too, have both... My hubby *hearts* his itouch... and he is anti-apple person. I have just an ipod and haven't used it in 2 years... finally last week for my birthday my hubby got me speakers/charging station... now I'm using it all the time!

I'd go with the itouch since it's more there is more you can do with it than just an ipod.

Wow what a response! Ok I will get him the touch! I'll tell him he has you ladies to thank for it. :)

I do have a Sprint Mi-Fi which would allow him to have internet even without being in a wi-fi place. I know he would use it for music...but I bet he will like it for so many other things you mentioned as well.

As a note...I did call Netflix and they do NOT have it enabled for phones and ipods to watch the instant movies...but they are hoping to have it in the future...so one day he might even be able to watch movies on there from Netflix!

Can you watch any other kinds of movies (say like Warehouse 13 from the SyFy website) on the Ipod touch?

Update! I went to Target last night...had 4 prescriptions and coupons...3 were $10 Gift Card with new or transferred prescription (in Sunday's paper) and 1 was a $20 Gift Card with new or transferred prescription (register receipt coupon from last visit to pharmacy).

Well I gathered up my other GC from previous prescriptions...and bought the iTouch!!!

It was rung up with tax $215 ... and I gave them my gift cards.... I paid $46 out of pocket!!! dh was very happy with my savings.

My son will be soooooooooooo surprised and tickled on Christmas day!

Thanks ladies for all the input!

....now my question is...what type of "cover" do you have for yours? I can see this getting dropped and scratched up. ...all our Target had was a black leather that covered it all and a bright pink plastic one.
