Where is the BEST place to live..

I can't imagine living anywhere too long. There are a lot of great places to live in the States. It all depends on the weather you like, what you like to do for everyday fun, how much you're willing to pay, what you do for a living and where you can find work, etc.

I'm a Northeastern girl at heart and I don't care much for Florida. I'm sucking it up because we moved there to be near Wes' parents for awhile. There is a lot to do in Florida, though, but for 5-6 months out of the year, it's too hot and humid to do much of it. lol After awhile I'm sure you get used to it, but really, it's gross for your first few years. It rains pretty much every day at least on the Gulf side for about 9 months out of the year. Then it's every other day. lol

North Carolina is nice. I lived in Raleigh for awhile and New Bern when I was younger. It's been a long time since I lived in either place, but the larger cities like Raleigh/RTP and Charlotte are going to have more transplants than anything else. It's like being someplace different with a bunch of people from the Northeast.

I've lived in Texas, North Carolina, Virginia, California, Colorado, Alabama, Michigan, Florida, and New York (where I spent most of my younger years). Of all of those places, I'd only ever move back to Denver. Mountains to your West, Plains to your East. You're sitting pretty right in-between. Winters are usually less harsh than the NE and the summers are gorgeous. There is a ton to do in the city and the surrounding towns. You get all 4 seasons to enjoy how you wish. The job market was booming when I lived there so housing was outrageous, but that was over a decade ago, so I'm sure things have changed. Boulder is a great city, too, and very close to Denver.

I think most people would think no way when they hear about North Dakota, just cause they judge it without knowing it, but I love it. I live in Fargo.

The Dakotas are two of the most beautiful states in the country (displaced only by Montana IMO). The winters are just too harsh for me, but I'd live there in a heartbeat if I could stand them. Anyone who says otherwise just hasn't been there, like you said.

Thanks. I actually totally agree. The winter is the one thing I just hate, I just take it as a trade off for the rest of the good things.

nicole & stacy.. I like snow :p haha. He lived in FL for three years, I've only been once or twice (? foggy memory apparently) and the humidity nearly killed me! :[

Yes--it's terrible at times and even worse inland. Living by the beach makes a huge difference. Plus, everywhere has it's "inside times." Ours is just July, Aug and Sept. vs. Nov. through March. LOL! November through March are actually amazing months to live here. The brilliant sunshine, no humidity! Ah. I can't wait.

Move here La :)
It's still New England... fairly rural, but not too rural... we get snow.. there are a million goats around (LOL) and there's a smaller town airport here. We're also an hour from the Albany airport. SW Vermont (Bennington) is the best!
We're only a few hours drive to beaches in a few directions. We kiddie-corner Mass, NY and we're an hour-ish from NH. Lots of stuff to do around here in all seasons..

He was looking at a job in NH recently (we could still live here, he'd just be up there a few days and then back home for a week or something). My brother lives in Maine.. It's def gorgeous up in those 3 states.

we have friends in colorado.. I'm really worried I would feel land locked there, but It's SO SO pretty.. Maybe i need to get over my need for the ocean issue :p I think the housing market has relaxed there a little in the past few years as well.

Did you say Africa? Cape Town is a big hub for flights etc. and it is picturesque...little bit of paradise. We have 9 months of sunshine, no humidity. Snowfall up in the mountains, best seafood in the world, most amazing sunsets and yes its just heavenly. I miss home so much. Cost of living...if you compare the fact that currently its about R10 to the $ you can get more bang for your buck.

it would really be so so cool.. he's never brought it up again though ahhaha so who knows :p

We have snow in Utah and a decent sized airport. :) You know I love my Utah mountains. But, I think there's a bit of a culture shock here . . . heck, even I feel like I'm surrounded by a bunch of aliens half the time. I love it here, though. And, I'd love it even more if Lala lived here. :)

lol aliens might be tough for me haha

I've lived all over the US and outside the US and I have a few favorite places:

Hawaii (very expensive though!)
San Diego
Southeastern Georgia (St. Mary's area) - this was my favorite area
Virginia

I hated South Carolina.

I won't try to sell you on any particular one though - it really depends on your tastes, etc. I grew up in Maine until I was 18 and came back about 10 years ago. It's okay because it's home. We have an idiot governor, but nice mountains, ocean, and forests - LOL

I *love* living in Copenhagen. It's hecka expensive, but otherwise it's all pretty awesome. I grew up in Florida, which is too hot and humid for me. I spent several years in Minnesota, and I really love the Twin Cities as well, but the winters are excessive. It's a lot milder in Copenhagen than most people imagine. No mountains, but Sweden and Norway are really close and they have them. ;)

We loved Colorado when we lived there and Denver is high on our list of places we'd move to if we had a choice. But I admit, being from CA where I used to drive past the ocean on my way to work, I never really got over the lack of ocean thing when we lived there. And now that we're an hour drive from the beach again, it's hard for me to imagine landlocking myself again, haha. The 8 months of winter never bothered me but not being able to at least drive to the ocean totally weirded me out. :D It is gorgeous there though.

I've always thought I'd like to live in Denmark. Lucky you!

I didn't think i was going to like living in WA at first. We've been here since Nov. and I'm so in love with this place!! Everything is amazingly beautiful, there's mountains, ocean, and so so so much to see and do, I don't think we'll even get to it all while we're here! The air out here is wonderful, and it's no where near the sohotyoucan'tbreathe like we get in OH. Lol, ya know the kind of hot where the air is so thick it takes your breath away when you walk outside? Ug, I hate that. I'm sure the WA girls on here that have been here longer could sell it better :D But I had to chime in bc it's just amazing here!

Girl, I been telling you for years to move south! North Carolina is perfect, Florida is nice, personally, I'd pick South Carolina or Georgia, if I were picking, but south, definitely south.

And if you decide to leave the country, I recommend Sabah, Malaysia. I've always called it paradise, and I miss it something crazy!

Why has no one said the panhandle of Oklahoma?! Ha. I love where I live, but think it's probably one of those places you have to be made for.

My favorite place in the world is Hawaii. If I ever when the lottery, I will have a house there.

Florida! I will admit, this time of year makes me want to join a nudist colony. It's so freaking hot & humid. But August is the worst of the worst for Floridians, so if you ask us now we'll say move north! But right around the middle of October it is fantastic here! All the way through to about April. Then, the heat starts creeping back.

I live on the east coast, Boca Raton area. It's got ocean breezes and tons to do year round. The Keys are not far south and Disney a few hours north (Florida Resident passes rock). Schools are great, there's lots of housing for different incomes, and tons of wealthy people who need pilots for their private jets at the Boca Raton airport (or the 3 major airports nearby, Miami, Ft. Lauderdale, and West Palm Beach). And, in the winter, you can take a little vacation to see snow. ;)

If you have opportunities in NH, the Manchester airport is small and has been really good to us going through with little kids. Also, no sales or income tax, and still the property taxes are less than Mass. I seriously can't believe how beautiful it is here...the seasons amaze me and every time I go for a drive through the countryside my breath is taken away. You can also choose where you live based on your lifestyle. There is city, country, mountains, farming, shoreside, etc. and even if you can only afford one kind, everything else is within an hour drive.

well I was born and raised in VA, lived in CA, Northern VA, Italy and WA.....and honestly I LOVE it here in WA...where we live it doesn't rain or snow alot, but it is dreary and can be kind of down in the winter since it gets so dark early....but we have been here 10 years and there is so much to see and do and the summer weather is NEVER EVER too hot, it is usually just right!...but the cost of living is too much for me!!!!! we are seriously looking to move back to VA just because the cost of living is so much better (and I will be close to my family)...what I LOVE about VA is the change in seasons and no matter where you live in VA you can drive to the mountains or to the beach :)

we paid $325KK for our house here in WA and compared to what we can get for $325K in VA is simply crazy!!! We are seriously thinking about making this move, but we want to have a plan first and jobs before we consider putting our house on the market and then moving!

here is an example: (here you literally have 10 feet on each side of your house between your neighbors)
this is very similar to my house (as a matter of fact iot is in my neighborhood)

Wow, that house in VA is crazy. We are actually putting our house on the market in the next week or two and what we can buy for $260-$300 K is nothing even remotely CLOSE to either of those houses.

ahhh the joys of living in the Sunshine state :) and we did get a good deal on our house here in WA, but boy do I dream of having a yard and not very close neighbors :)

$250,000 will buy you a lot of house here. You can get a 1800 square foot 3 bedroom 2 bath twin home for $130,000 here. I know a ton of people who have bought them in the last year.

We are looking at houses now... About 1,500 sq. foot house 3 bed 2 bath, needing some rennovations in Boca.... 269k

Grrr....

Brooke after a few of my kids leave, I would totally go to Florida :) Love the sunshine!!!!

Awesome! :) I do love it here. And the fact that it is sunny & warm yearound is one of the reasons the homes are so small. We spend a lot of time doing things outside (beach, pool, park), or out in the yard.

I like where I live (NJ) - my family is here, friends, and work... but if I could move, I think I'd choose North Carolina. It's just TOOOOOOOO expensive here! We sold our townhouse in December (2 bed, 2.5 bath, garage, basement) and we bought a piece of small property, 3BR, 2 Bath, 2 garage, basement (mostly updated) for around $400. That is SUPER cheap in my area... it's sad, lol! I think the median house average for selling is about $700K. Ugh. We found a super little property in a great town, awesome schools, and we were lucky.

We live in typical New Jersey suburbs, near the ocean, and near where Sandy hit... like 20 minutes from NYC/20 minutes to beaches. That is why it's super crazy expensive - most commute to NYC (by train it's about 50 minute door to door).

Brook... my family used to own a house on Coquina Way in BR... then they sold (and it was demo'ed/expaneded) and bought a beach condo in Highland Beach. If we go down anytime, I'd love to meet up!

well, I'd say Chicagoland... only because there is a babe who has a monthly scrap night and it's pretty awesome, not that they get much scrapping done lol... so awesome that she has out of staters making the drive ;)

That is awesome! I'd travel and I'd host! LOL!

my fiance and i have toyed with moving to north carolina. we've also thought about washington state (he's from oak harbor, washington, but his parents are in mount vernon, washington now) and texas (he wants texas, he lived there for a while after high school.. i boycotted, too many
bugs and it's too flipping hot).

i've only ever lived in massachusetts and in buffalo, ny (i'd never live in buffalo ever again... i'd take texas over buffalo). the boy has lived everywhere, his dad was in the military and they moved all the time.
