When you can't sleep....?

Well, when I woke up at 4.30am this morning, I checked on the kids, then hopped on the computer for an hour till I felt tired again and went back to bed. I have no problems GOING to sleep, but I have problems staying asleep. Usually once I wake up in the morning (as long as it's 5.30am or later), I just get up and muck around on the computer till the rest of the family wake up.

I'll either watch TV, read, or scrapbook... depending on my stress level and why I can't sleep... :) But then around 5 I'll get tired, lie down until the rest of the house is up and then usually fall asleep and have a hard time getting up... oh, I hate those nights!

I'm an early riser (4.30am on days I have to commute to work in the city). If I wake up early and can't get back to sleep, like 3.00 or 4.00am I'll get up and start my day - housework, work (if its a day I'm working from home)... thankfully this doesn't happen too often - I live in a state of chronic tiredness so sleep isn't usually a problem!

These days it's more "won't sleep" than "can't sleep" for me. At night I fight my tiredness to stay up and scrap (since the time when everyone else is asleep is the only time I can squeeze in more than a few minutes on the computer). We have 1 child whose sleep disorder makes him wake by 4:45 most mornings, so if there's a time I can't sleep in the morning I get up with him.

Back when the kids were littler and waking at night (which my sleep disordered kiddo did until age 5), I had to be very careful when I went to sleep or I'd have insomnia every night. He had one of his wakings about 1 am every day. I couldn't go to sleep before that, no matter how tired I was. If I did fall asleep then wake with him for 20 minutes to an hour, I'd be awake for another 3. I used to read or use the computer when it happened.

I scrap which is why I always get pages for my CT's done really fast. After the kids go to bed I scrap or watch tv. or both. I'm watching House on netflix all the way through and sometimes I need the scrapping distraction through the gorey parts

Play games on my iPhone. Urghh. And they're really immature kinda games. Like Dragon Story, Restaurant Story & Bakery Story. I'm on level 90-100 on all of the games.

Listening to podcasts or audiobooks helps me. I can do that quietly on my phone in the dark with my eyes closed, and sometimes I just need to get my brain to stop whirling, so they offer the distraction necessary.

This is me. I usually stay up so I can scrap in peace. I'll also look through Pinterest.
