When It Rains . . . It Pours

Well, after a terrible month last month, with serious medical issues cropping up in my DH and DS, I thought we finally had things under control this month.

Then, I just found out yesterday that I'll be losing my job (of 18 years) come February 1.

Life is just crap right now.

Dawn, I'm totally there with you - we can commiserate together.

One suggestion - even though you won't be gone until Feb 1, I would sign up with some headhunters/recruiting agencies as soon as possible. Saves you some of the legwork. I signed up with 2 this week and they are already working on some possible positions to place me with some strong leads at one of the companies. I'm not sure what you do for your career, but if you PM me, I might be able to help a little bit since I'm in the same boat.

I am so sorry to hear this.

I know how you feel. I was unemployed for five months this summer and am only temp working until next July. Living on the edge and never knowing what might or could happen is no fun.

Oh no Dawn, I'm SO sorry.
Take a few days to let it sink in, then get busy on that resume and starting the job hunt. The sooner the better with the state of the economy right now.

after 18 years??? wow! what happened!?!

The general down-turn in the economy is putting the squeeze on our firm, like everyone else. I have been a contract attorney for several years, which enabled me to work remotely and from home so I could be here for the kids. They've decided to lay off all the contract attorneys to keep more work for salaried attorneys they have to pay anyway. It makes sense from a fiscal point of view, but it's harsh to lay off a loyal 18 year employee with 3 months notice in a market like this.

(((DAWN!!!!))) why does life have to bite the big one sometimes?!?! this is serious stuff! P & PT going out to you and your family during this stressful time!! HUGS!!!!
