when do kids grow out of this bonehead phase..

you're like stars
like, am i stuck with this till he's 20? because ..what the heck man. I thought I had a few more years before he really started making me neurotic, but I guess the hormones are flowing pretty strong and early in this one. Summer vacation is a true test of every parent's patience @_@ I love him to pieces, obviously, but I would like a mute button, and a go away now please button. I'm pretty sure every single thing i've said/asked/told him the past few weeks has been immediately met with an argument or mouthy tude bonus points for the majorly DUR things that he's said/done too. I've just started giving him the evil eye at this point. He's clearly an alien.

I have two 14 year olds and one is like that. Drives. Me. Mad.

Could you just do one thing I ask without arguing with me????? I literally hide from him sometimes. He'll stop around and yell at me and then an hour later come up and say, "I'm sorry for being like that." and then hug all over me.

My mom said this is the worst age for boys. (Or so she noticed with my brothers) You know I have complete sympathy for you as I'm going through it also. lol

yes.. I get lots of tears.. "i don't know why i act that way" ............................... wth.

ah. add one to the repertoire..

just swept the floors for me (after some arguing, but it's done! good job!) Asks for some jelly beans.. YES, bc you were so helpful you can have some, only a little bit though ok?.. Comes back with a giant bowl full. I growl, he laughs and says "I knew you'd be mad.. I just wanted to see how you'd react" ..............
-.- thanks? what purpose could purposely provoking an angry reaction have? weirdo.

Mine is only 6, but every single time I ask him to do something he answers with "why?" So, I am guessing it only gets worse then?

It gets better, well mine is pretty good. I don't get much in the way of lip from him because that just isn't done here. I knew when I got divorced that he'd be bigger than me so I had a no tolerance policy for backtalk. I still get the occasional eye roll but they are subtle (you'd expect that from a 19 year old) and very far between.

Hmm, yeah, Cheyanne has been like that since she was about 9 or 10 and it isn't getting any better.... I have some friends who say they do become more human again around 16 or 17 but I have my doubts :glare: My son was much better than she is though and he never really had this phase.

My 7 year old will stomp and whine and yell "I hate cleaning!" (or whatever it is I am asking him to do) every time I ask him to do something. Actually, he only does it when his sister is home which is like 99% of the time. When he is by himself he does everything I ask him to without ever complaining. Strange, that child.

Here, too... Oh man - it can spark my anger in 0-60... and you are telling me that it gets worse??

I used to think everyone was nuts when they'd talk about their difficult kids... now I have one. Doh!

I am a caregiver (like foster parent, but weekends with his mom) to a 14 year old. He's been with me since he was 12. He has been the epitome of the moody, sullen, argumentative teenage boy.

Because his mom trusts me (and my judgement), I usually let him (and my 14 y/o daughter) know how much their social lives depend on me liking their attitude.

For the record I'm not sure which is worse: He is moody and argumentative and my daughter is emotional and over-dramatic.

No... My home is never boring

lol! I thought of this thread last night.

So, Bella and Ryan sooooo wanted to go to church last night, so we all packed up and went. The WHOLE DRIVE and the whole time we were signing the kids up for Awana and dropping them off and giving teachers any special directions Zach was steadily "I don't want to go to stupid Awana. This is going to be stupid. I can't believe you're making me come to the stupid thing in the middle of the stupid week." He was so obnoxious about it that one of the leaders for the whole upper elementary told him he should try to have fun and then spend the rest of the week praying for a better attitude because if his brother and sister want to come that he'll have to just suck it up and come anyway. :o I wanted to crawl under a rock.

Then I got Zach to his class and we look over and the whole 4th grade table looks sullen, angry, and totally put out. lol His teacher said it's a 4th grade thing as far as he can tell. He's been leading the boys upper elementary Wednesday night for 4 or 5 years and the boy 4th graders just stay in a bad mood. lol

I teach teenagers and although I love them , they really are meatball brains even when they graduate. Lovable meatball brains, though.

I fostered and gained legal guardianship of one of my boys as well. He was 12 when we got him and he will be 15 soon. I get it!

Haha I tutor some homeschool kids to help them with their math, and the mom says that it's like pulling teeth to get them to come, and then on the ride home they are always really excited about what we were able to do in just one hour. I usually blame it on the fact that both mom and dad are all "we don't do math," but after some good time with a fellow nerd he realizes just how cool math really is. ;) It's probably just the age. Doesn't it usually start about 10 or 11?
