What's the deal?

This is probably a dumb question that I should already know the answer to, but I don't. :o

What's with the '&' signs in kit ellies lately? Do they mean something?
 
LOL i think its funny that the other laura asked this on FB a week or so ago..

its just a fad.. just for like extra large emphasis.. :)
 
I suppose it's kind of like the {fad} from a few years ago. At least I actually use an ampersand once in awhile. I never used the brackets until they became a fad.
 
i'm an english/grammar geek too...just don't get it lol
(this has nothing to do with me being difficult, i swear.)
 
maybe think of it not as an & itself but a unique visual element kwim? Its pleasing to the eye and has a nice flooooooow yo!
 
i love the design, the vintageness and the meaning which can be translated to love, unifying etc.
but still it is just a trend.
 
I love ampersand too...its always been one of my fave type elements. Not all of them are pretty...but you get a few that just stand out. I even have a big yellow & on my PL Album...and and and there is sooo much more! lol

This is how I think of it too. Personally, I love this particular fad. :)
 
Ooh I love the big awesome ampersand elements... I have yet to use one, but they are cool.
 
Not gunna lie... when I see a giant one that's like an element or just randomly placed on the page my first thought is "and WHAT???"

LOL... That's a good point. I have yet to use one because I feel like it has to make sense... Serve a purpose. Not just for the sake of having an ampersand on there.
 
And I haven't even noticed this trend. But yeah, I would have to actually use it as an "and" on my page. LOL

I've definately used Ampersands on my pages...

And since we are speaking of grammer...

I changed my title for the page I was working on tonight because I needed an apostrophe to spell it's but the alpha didn't have one! A woman I once worked with (who was a punctuation freak) had a t-shirt that said in big bold letters:

It's NOT possesive!!

That's how I remember that rule! I can see her wearing that shirt! :p
 
Some people claim the ampersand means "love times infinity" since it looks a little like a heart with an infinity symbol in it, like this:

I feel like that's a bit of a stretch, haha, but I do like them! I only use them really in an "and" context though, like you & me or a&l. They do make more sense to me than hipster mustaches and owls though. :p

Right??? I think Laura and I are cosmically linked...cuz I'm the same way (and I guess neither of us were too proud to ask lol). I can't bring myself to use it as a cool visual element...but, I will most likely find a way to incorporate one in a title or something. :thumbup:
 
I feel a dare coming on... LOL

I love it, I think it's fun and now I think I need to fill up my next layout with a bunch of them LOL
 
Apparently I am way behind because I have not even noticed the & symbol in kits LOL. Although I do love when it is included in alphas along with all other punctuation marks :)
 
there's a kit coming this week that's packed with them (and gorgeous to boot)....and wouldn't you know....i HAD to use one :p
 
That is an awesome kit, KCB, but I need a more grammareading-book-nerdy kit vs. a techy-computer-geeky kit like that one, kwim?

I know there are lots of reading kits, but one with grammatical WA + little tokens with all the different copyediting symbols on it would rock my world, MISS KRYSTAL. :wub:
 
Ha ha! I just asked Meg this last night!!! I used the & on at least two of my layouts this week. But not randomly. It was actually used in place of the word and. :)
