what would you do?

Last week our cable company was out here at our house and when the guy left he hit an oak tree in our yard. It is a really nice tree and it now has some deep gouges in the side of it. My husband called and spoke to the people there and the lady he talked to said they have to talk to the guy who was here to see what he says about it. It wouldnt have been such a big deal if he had walked up and told us when it happened. We actually heard the noise when it happened but didnt connect it til we saw the tree the next day. So what would you do? Id be kinda upset if the damage on the tree actually effects it which my husband does not think it will but it is still a young tree and the gouges are really deep in the side of the tree.

Sorry, that happened Insist that they have him come back and have the truck line up to the tree to see if it matches (take photos). Arborist services (including total tree replacement) are very expensive. Also, ask them for their insurance information and file a claim. They will be forced to investigate it. HTH!

File a complaint and see how the tree fairs? idk, thats a hard one.

I have no idea what I would do.

But the tree should be fine. You have to cut a ring all the way around the tree to really hurt it. Underneath the bark is the phloem layer that takes the nutrients up and down (the sap). As long as that is not interrupted all the way around the tree it should be fine. Now if it gouged it really really deep than it would interrupt the xylem (which brings water up) and that would be a problem.

I went out and looked at it and it is past the bark into the lighter colored wood underneath. It does kinda bug me that he didnt come up and tell us that he hit the tree. We have alot of trees but we also have a circle driveway so there should have been no reason to hit the tree. We dont have a whole lot of people coming in and out either so we are almost certain the bang we heard when he was leaving was him hitting the tree. There were also tire tracks in fromt of the tree so my husband thinks that he backed into it. I cant imagine he would have pulled up to it and hit it.
